Josh Janssen: [00:00:00] it's the daily talk show episode 933.
Tommy Jackett: [00:00:08] And we're back in the studio. For one day only before we head back out, but we are,
Josh Janssen: [00:00:14] we might do it. I think it would be nice to do it every isn't this very strange.
Tommy Jackett: [00:00:20] So we're in person for the first time in many, many months doing the show. Oh no, it'll be six months serves.
What, how long do you reckon
Josh Janssen: [00:00:29] he doesn't have a mind?
Tommy Jackett: [00:00:29] No, that's fine. But if he can just, he can hold his hands up. How many months do you reckon? Seven months. Of eight months of not doing the show. I mean, I had a moment in the lift with a man. What I wouldn't have had it I've had moments in lifts with women, with men.
This one was
Josh Janssen: [00:00:47] dancing with the stars.
Tommy Jackett: [00:00:50] At least Amy knows about that one.
Anyway,
Josh Janssen: [00:00:55] that was, that was when you were, that was when you were young. I was
Tommy Jackett: [00:00:59] 1920 right out with one of the dances from dancing with the stars.
Josh Janssen: [00:01:03] I'm pretty sure you've ever mentioned on the show.
Tommy Jackett: [00:01:05] She wasn't a celebrity. She was just the professional dancer. Um, which kind of has more talent than most of the celebrities on that show.
Anyway, it's fat Fridays. We didn't mention that.
Josh Janssen: [00:01:15] Um, and so the reason why, why we're doing this is we've got a client job next week where we're doing multi-camera switching and stuff. So we're, we're testing out a different solution, which this could, I think that we will end up doing a bunch of episodes this year.
From this setup. Thank you. Sorry.
Tommy Jackett: [00:01:34] We've got bells, hot chicken. Um, and yeah, just keeping it, I mean, it's, it's the closest thing to being lame without it being lane, you know what I mean? Like it's, it's slow my diet.
Josh Janssen: [00:01:46] Yeah.
Tommy Jackett: [00:01:47] So I've got some chicken nuggets, which I brought, um, as much as I just use my hands,
Josh Janssen: [00:01:52] I did bring
Tommy Jackett: [00:01:53] a form for us to use,
Josh Janssen: [00:01:54] but
Tommy Jackett: [00:01:56] there is something, I mean, Jess is in the office today too, and I'm mid conversation with her and she just.
Smiles and says something different. It's a bit weird. Isn't it being back in front, you know, in front of someone. And I just said, yeah, I can smell you not in a bad way, but just the difference in like you getting stimulus from like energy, you're getting different energy
Josh Janssen: [00:02:20] from this, the Lyft story.
Tommy Jackett: [00:02:22] Oh no, I didn't.
So I was in the lift. Go into you. Yeah. I had a moment with a man. That's all I wanted to say. No. So I was in the lift and this man got in, but I, I, so I press the buzzer to come up to your place. And you answered, like, you didn't know who it was. So first of all, this guy who rocked up as you spoke and then got himself in, so he lives in your building.
Sure. And so then I got you say, come up. And then I got in the lift and I'd kind of forgotten that I needed to do a step after that. I mean, you live in a place where you gotta press the number, you gonna press the number. It would be great. If you were in a higher, you know, cheetah, it's a bit embarrassing, but,
Josh Janssen: [00:03:04] uh, doors doormen or whatever they
Tommy Jackett: [00:03:05] thought I never wanted a fat business father.
I don't want to be
Josh Janssen: [00:03:11] one above one. I get it. No,
Tommy Jackett: [00:03:13] but I got him and he said to me, Oh, you're coming to seven eight. And, and that was his way of saying you haven't pressed the button. You have like, Oh, that's crazy. They're thinking I'm coming to his level. I was like, Oh no, no, no, I'm not coming to seven. I was like, Oh,
Josh Janssen: [00:03:28] how long, how, how far in were you before you realize we're closing
Tommy Jackett: [00:03:33] the doors closing.
And, um, and so, yeah, anyway, it kind of didn't get us off to the right. My point being is it's the first time I've been in a Lyft, it's more somebody. Since we, you know, we've all been really close and
Josh Janssen: [00:03:48] have a, on,
Tommy Jackett: [00:03:50] nobody had an Epic mustache and he was a little character.
Josh Janssen: [00:03:56] It's like a mail filter. It's just the mustache and blue cheese.
Anyway, this, this, this is going to be real good,
Tommy Jackett: [00:04:04] but I haven't felt in that moment, that was before I had the Jess. And I can smell you moment.
Josh Janssen: [00:04:09] I'm going to get this fuck. I'm going to get this on my shorts and it's going to look like com that's a real problem,
Tommy Jackett: [00:04:16] but there is something about being around people again, and my I'm looking forward to it.
Like I'm invited it.
Josh Janssen: [00:04:22] You're doing it.
Tommy Jackett: [00:04:24] Even you were in good spirits today. Like, wow, this is the first time we're done,
Josh Janssen: [00:04:29] even, you know? Hey, great. I'm surprised.
Tommy Jackett: [00:04:34] Don't you reckon guys, can we get some Nazis
Josh Janssen: [00:04:36] English, heritage,
Tommy Jackett: [00:04:37] Jake being around multiple, but it's been a while.
Josh Janssen: [00:04:41] Yeah.
Tommy Jackett: [00:04:42] The transition period for a person like me who likes to get in people's faces and keeps people in lifts.
Josh Janssen: [00:04:49] Yeah, no, it is, uh, it is nice. It's uh, It's good to be back. Is that the air con's going? Yeah, the, um, I feel comfortable with this, the setup that we've sort of worked out. Yeah. I think it looks quite good. Maybe go to YouTube and check it out.
Tommy Jackett: [00:05:07] Like different camera angles. Hayden, Deb, what do you think
Josh Janssen: [00:05:12] you take heightened DIB famously walked into our studio sort of mid pandemic just to give us some feedback that he didn't like our shots.
Which,
Tommy Jackett: [00:05:23] um, and no one knows. A bad shit. No one knows is a bad
Josh Janssen: [00:05:28] shot. Yeah. More than Josh. I knew that there was some issues with it. Um, so what else do we got?
Tommy Jackett: [00:05:35] Just more hot chicken. Okay. Grab a hot chicken kind of day. Oh, and I got some, um,
Josh Janssen: [00:05:40] can I have a pickles?
Tommy Jackett: [00:05:41] Well, yeah, and I got, um, pickled vegetables, which I thought would be a nice addition.
Okay, now, Jay, Bay's hanging around. He's hungry for JB. Do
Josh Janssen: [00:05:50] you want some nuggets? JB can have some he's literally, um, what's what's the, what's the guy from, um, good morning Australia. Why is it on bright? It's always on, it's always,
he's literally covered the entire shot. You would be completely kicked out of a studio ever do that. Yeah. Just sit there for us.
Tommy Jackett: [00:06:14] Sit down. No one knows what we're doing. There is a vibe. Isn't it? It's amazing. How, um, you chewing chew? I mean, we talked about this last time coming back into the office. We literally were not, we were picking up on all the things that the nuances of our personalities, but just you chewing chewing gum before was getting me going
Josh Janssen: [00:06:36] in a good way.
Tommy Jackett: [00:06:37] Well, now
Josh Janssen: [00:06:37] you were too. Oh, really?
Tommy Jackett: [00:06:40] And you were focused on doing tech tasks. So you never throw shade to someone working.
Josh Janssen: [00:06:46] I think there's something to it. Yeah. So what's the observations. What am I thinking? How, uh, the, um, my phone I've been losing my phone don't know where that is. That's been annoying me.
Tommy Jackett: [00:06:55] I heard something Ang BBB, BBB.
Josh Janssen: [00:06:57] Yeah. It's my, with my Apple watch, I can actually select, like, try and find my phone, uh, which was lucky, but I think the, um, yeah, I'm, I'm enjoying it now. But I'm pessimistic the pessimistic of the future. Well,
Tommy Jackett: [00:07:15] you can eat later at home. You can. I feel like the tight, your energy levels are different when you can't, when you're at home.
Just even just the thought of. Being, you know, when you're at your workplace and you're tired, it's a different vibe than being at home,
Josh Janssen: [00:07:31] out of control. That's the feeling it's like, I cry because normally I've liked got the camera. Like I've got everything, I see everything that's going on behind the desk.
I've let Mason in charge of that. And there's a part of me which feels like. He's completely fucked it, and we won't know until the end.
Tommy Jackett: [00:07:50] I mean, he's done that before.
Josh Janssen: [00:07:53] That's very true
Tommy Jackett: [00:07:54] focus the
Josh Janssen: [00:07:54] whole time when we realize and got like to, to bring you in on the tech side, we're using, um, a product called bird dog, which does all these like turns video signals into the network.
It's very cool, but they've got tele lights and so. I can say when saves is changing to the wide and every time he does it, it feels like this weird flex that he's only like we get it right. You know how to switch. He's actually, I wasn't expecting him to use the wide as much as he is using it. Um, can we get, can we, can I get a shot of the wide shot place?
Why is it taking you? So
Tommy Jackett: [00:08:30] that should be the first thing.
Josh Janssen: [00:08:32] When you talk about the wide, I would probably cut. Cut to wide. Yeah. Um, but it's very, it's great. He's, he's really, um, he's really taken on the sort of the television director role. Beautiful.
Tommy Jackett: [00:08:46] One thing. Um, my mom dated a floor manager once for a TV
Josh Janssen: [00:08:50] show.
Tommy Jackett: [00:08:52] Uh, pluck a dock at nine nine. And what was it? Countdown maybe. Oh yeah, maybe it was Cantet
Josh Janssen: [00:08:57] think my, a teacher, Suzanne Dowling. Now rock arena. She was the, um, my English teacher. She was okay. The, uh, the presenter
Tommy Jackett: [00:09:07] didn't I was one for one. My mate was the EPO dancing with the stars. That's how I hooked up with that again?
No, it was, he took me to the after party. I absolutely described to you tonight.
Josh Janssen: [00:09:20] No, I did. And ruin the lift.
Tommy Jackett: [00:09:22] Um, no, what I was saying, I don't know what I was saying. There's something about being in person that, um, Has a more, uh, performance level. I know that's what I was getting at. I was padding there.
That's what they do in TV, mace, they pad. This is the first time that
Josh Janssen: [00:09:41] we've been stopped, being silly. Do you think we almost acting like we're drunk?
Tommy Jackett: [00:09:44] We're a bit silly. Um, I'm looking for getting stuck into drinks for our Christmas party. Hey, but, um, first time that we've all been together as the unified business.
Like the star, like all of us now together in the same room, because we've grown our business over the, uh, lockdown period. How, I don't know, cause we haven't left home, but, um, it's nice to now. I mean, when we first came in this office, it was you Mason and I, and then three-day deal deal. He came and lived here, but then it still felt pretty bad.
Like there was no one, like it was. A bit sad for two, three level. I call it three level three. Yeah. Well, that's the garage, but the, um, the different floors.
Josh Janssen: [00:10:37] What, um, what are you excited about for 2021 when it comes to the office and, sorry, I've got a lot of chicken in my mouth.
Tommy Jackett: [00:10:44] Well, um, at least runs out and that's almost two years, so it's been nice to be able to survive two years of, um, having a big boy lace.
So, um,
Josh Janssen: [00:10:55] what do you count as a big boy lace subleasing from your Mac?
Tommy Jackett: [00:10:59] Anything more than that? What you paid live? Like our house rent is less than this. So if you're paying more for an office space that's yeah. More than your own
Josh Janssen: [00:11:11] big boy or girl,
Tommy Jackett: [00:11:12] big boy. Big girl.
Josh Janssen: [00:11:13] Can I have one more piece of chicken or is it okay?
Tommy Jackett: [00:11:16] That's right. Um, so 20, 20 to 2021, 2021 for the office. I don't know. It's a ma do you know what? I would rearrange my room every three, four months when I lived at home when I was younger. Yes. And I felt like I was in a new apartment, new house,
Josh Janssen: [00:11:37] new hotel, where you did have a mini bar.
Tommy Jackett: [00:11:38] You had, yeah, I've had a federal door.
I had SA a safe anyway. I had a Bible in my thick neck. I lived in a hotel
Josh Janssen: [00:11:49] come to
Tommy Jackett: [00:11:50] think of it now, but it made it feel different. Re-energized it? So even this setup has felt like it's re-energized. Something,
Josh Janssen: [00:12:00] is it true that your mum put little chocolates on you and
Tommy Jackett: [00:12:05] mum would make my towels into swans?
Josh Janssen: [00:12:08] It's just like barley.
Tommy Jackett: [00:12:10] That is amazing though. If you can do that fucking that's a
Josh Janssen: [00:12:14] catch. Yeah.
yeah.
Tommy Jackett: [00:12:20] If he can do swans out of doubt. Okay.
Josh Janssen: [00:12:24] Yeah. I mean, yeah. The whole towel on beds outside of hotels. It doesn't really work very well.
Tommy Jackett: [00:12:38] Well, it'd be nice to come home and have a towel on my bed every day, but then I would want it to also coincide with my rooms clean.
Josh Janssen: [00:12:45] Okay. Do you ever actually have a towel that you put in the bathroom before you need it?
For instance, I feel like the only time I'm getting a new towel is when I feel like I need a new towel. I never feel like I'm preemptively putting a new towel out, waiting for the shower later in the day. Do you
Tommy Jackett: [00:13:04] know what I know? That should be the, that should be the vibe that, Oh,
Josh Janssen: [00:13:08] he's like calendarizing
Tommy Jackett: [00:13:10] so, um, right now we're living in a three bedroom, so there's our room bodies' room and Amy's sister lives with us.
She's moving out next week. And so we then have. Uh, an extra w so we'll move into the en suite bedroom. And so then we're going to have like, um, I basically, what I want to do is I want to separate from Amy, just our bathrooms. Like I want to just be using this, you know, one of them, I haven't, she gets to decide.
I think she maybe she'll go the other one. She can wait in my own suedes, but can't shower there, you know? And then there's, it's really like, I can live in filth if I want. Like, it can, you
Josh Janssen: [00:13:55] can get bad.
Tommy Jackett: [00:13:56] And so, but what I would like is, um, having multiple towers there because I'm the guy that we use towel there and then put it there and then use that one over there.
And so sometimes I've had to was going, I've got no problem with, to, to
Josh Janssen: [00:14:11] have 'em set in colors.
Tommy Jackett: [00:14:13] Yeah. She's got green ones. And then I've got yellow,
Josh Janssen: [00:14:18] yellow ones. Yeah. And so when you say that you could use multiple, multiple yellow.
Tommy Jackett: [00:14:24] Well, Amy gets angry if I use hers. So I've got, I use bodies' outside. No, but he's clean.
If anything he's cleaner than Amy and I, because I scrubbed his art's all
Josh Janssen: [00:14:36] before the towel.
Tommy Jackett: [00:14:38] Well, I have to like, I he's little. And so by the time I've got the soap rubbed, it washed his bum, washed his arms under arms. He's more thoroughly cleaned than I am. And so he's using it at a clean towel level and then I'm just using his towel.
So if anything, it's dirty when not once I've used
it.
Josh Janssen: [00:14:56] Yeah. Do you, uh, do you have a loof. It's got a loaf or a foot loafer. What's a circular thing. Loafer, loof. The thing that you so pin, and then you like do that, like it's,
Tommy Jackett: [00:15:10] ah, it looks like a ball, like a layered. Amy has one, but God,
Josh Janssen: [00:15:17] nah, I'm going to lock in loofa
Tommy Jackett: [00:15:20] uh, 97 or you can't do too many things at once.
Fat. Can we get, can we get, uh, can we get Jess Lucas upstairs to yell out? I feel like she would know
Josh Janssen: [00:15:30] she was on a 32nd alive. It's going to be really annoying. Jess do not respond. Yeah. Do not respond JB. Did you find out that what a loafer is? Sorry, a soap and a Lily could be a little, it looks like a Lily.
Tommy Jackett: [00:15:47] Bafflingly loofa anyway, it's nice to be back in. I like to see that, um, you know, businesses are coming back.
Josh Janssen: [00:15:57] What have you known? What's the, what's the T yeah, Luther,
Tommy Jackett: [00:16:01] L O F a H S loofahs
Josh Janssen: [00:16:06] and, or take Lily. Yeah. Don't know if you spelled that right in the end. That's okay. Um, Yeah, good one. No, I mean, I'm excited.
I think that the, uh, uh, there is a different energy at the moment, which is all positive. We can see the finish line. We know that it's like, it's probably like a, I dunno, from a listener perspective, whether they gaining the, seeing the energy or feeling the energy, but it's definitely, um, I actually feel to be honest, like this is a bit of an, it feels like a remote show.
Like, don't you feel right now? Like, this is how we felt. In Los Angeles.
Tommy Jackett: [00:16:42] Oh yeah. Yeah, because yeah, you're out of your
Josh Janssen: [00:16:44] bit closer talking. I'm not wearing head normally, like, because of we've changed this app a little bit. I'm not wearing headphones at the moment. And so I've just got to hope that you can hear us based on Mason, which I believe he can do it.
Tommy Jackett: [00:17:04] We all believe in him.
Josh Janssen: [00:17:05] Yeah. We all do. That's good. So, um, anything else?
What else do you
Tommy Jackett: [00:17:15] remember that first? We did our first episode, that first episode that we did, um, with multiple cameras. Yeah, it feels like then if you are on our YouTube channel, full-time the daily talk show. Uh, what was it? 300 and something 280 when we started. Yeah. I said, when did your life change to two 37 37.
That's when Mason's life turned upside down. Yeah. It became a real lifestyle for him filming every day.
Josh Janssen: [00:17:48] Yeah. I mean,
Tommy Jackett: [00:17:49] it feels like that
Josh Janssen: [00:17:50] highlight of 20, 20, is it too early?
Tommy Jackett: [00:17:53] Um, surviving. I think that's most people. I mean, I mean,
Josh Janssen: [00:17:59] not if you,
Tommy Jackett: [00:18:00] this is survive where you don't know that, unless it's better on the other side than here.
That's what I always think about. Like, everyone's up there just thinking you guys are fucking stressed about nothing sick.
Josh Janssen: [00:18:13] Yeah. That's a good point. It could be. Um, and so, so highlights, surviving, maybe, uh, anything else more specific?
Tommy Jackett: [00:18:22] Oh, I mean, it's, there's lots of things, the business, but this isn't the last show of the year and that's where I've saving it.
Josh Janssen: [00:18:30] Yeah, sure. You want to save
Tommy Jackett: [00:18:31] something I'm saving. We're going to do something.
Josh Janssen: [00:18:33] Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. What am I I'll ask that question
Tommy Jackett: [00:18:38] in like milestones for you getting that Nordic bike.
Josh Janssen: [00:18:42] I wasn't gonna bring up the bike yet, but you had, you had to go with the bike.
Tommy Jackett: [00:18:45] Yeah. It's a
Josh Janssen: [00:18:45] black thing. What'd you think?
Come on. Be honest. You can be nice about it.
Tommy Jackett: [00:18:50] So I've used shitloads of bikes in my time. And it's the screen is the thing. It's the immersion into the world like it. Does. You see how so here's the thing I'm just trying to work this out. When you start exercising, 20 minutes feels like a long time. Yeah, distraction, which is the screen on the Nordic.
Like it gets you into the zone
Josh Janssen: [00:19:18] immersion. Yeah.
Tommy Jackett: [00:19:18] Immersion. I see how you could easily do an hour and a half in the future.
Josh Janssen: [00:19:22] Okay. Well, I'm starting with 25.
Tommy Jackett: [00:19:24] That's sort of maintenance.
Josh Janssen: [00:19:25] So
Tommy Jackett: [00:19:26] cause when you get fitter time seems to like doing a run for 40 minutes and it doesn't feel like it did when you first started.
Cause 20 minutes felt like forever. Definitely. And so there is something about. For you starting out again on your fitness journey, it w it was kind of, it's going to distract you if you just build up the routine of watching TV, that essentially means you're exercise. And so it is it's fucking cool.
Josh Janssen: [00:19:54] I'd love to get, um, baseball sorted.
For the seat, like to be able to watch baseball on the screen, can you, well, this is that, this is the thing. So if you go on YouTube, there's all these hacks. So you can get Netflix, you can get all the different services,
Tommy Jackett: [00:20:09] but maze with a wheel it out in front of your 75 minutes.
Josh Janssen: [00:20:13] Yeah. Well, so the other thing that you can do, I was thinking about this.
It's got an HTMI out and so you could take the signal. Um, and, you know, we could, we could put it through NDI, but we won't get into that. Um, but, but the, um, but what, but what I was thinking would be really cool imagine, uh, like I was thinking more if I had a bike shop, which I don't, but if I had a bike shop, you could have the Nordic bike and then you could have a projector, but projected really big.
Like, not just like, sort of, but you can almost say projected over the top of everything. So it like, be like, it feels, so you end up just seeing trees, like you just sort of almost like
Tommy Jackett: [00:20:56] fucking Mona.
Josh Janssen: [00:20:58] Yes. Yeah. Imagine like, you know, with, um, If you're on a 16 by nine timeline and you have four by three footage and you put it in and then you're like, fuck it.
I just, I don't want this, you know, the black pillars. So your zoom up and you add a gorgeous and blur and you end up with sort of that blur. I feel like it's a little bit like that where it's like, you know what? This white space, these white walls. Pissing me off. You could just project, you could project Hills mountains and all that
Tommy Jackett: [00:21:27] sort of we've lost everyone.
Who's never edited. That's okay. I'll tell you what I don't mind being in a studio is being able to look to someone who, for a laugh
Josh Janssen: [00:21:36] like George, George will always laugh. Yeah.
Tommy Jackett: [00:21:41] Good for good for ego.
Josh Janssen: [00:21:43] Great. You looking to him does for our Island
Tommy Jackett: [00:21:47] though. I was thinking that.
Josh Janssen: [00:21:48] Yeah, but that's okay.
Tommy Jackett: [00:21:49] Anyway, um, you know, I tried a great producer would tell us, but not sure.
Josh Janssen: [00:21:53] How's it looking Mason.
Tommy Jackett: [00:21:55] Okay. We've got a signal. It looks good.
Josh Janssen: [00:21:57] Okay. Well, um, well that was fun. Uh, we do it every day. We've got big plans. I love a launch loving announcement, big plans happening next year.
Tommy Jackett: [00:22:09] Yes. Yeah.
Josh Janssen: [00:22:11] So with the show maybe.
Tommy Jackett: [00:22:12] Yeah. Yeah. I feel like, um, let's just lose 20, 20, you know, late beer Bennett Bennett for a lot of us.
it's just me just saying that it's a year that isn't
Josh Janssen: [00:22:27] ever, since you found out it was a leap year.
