0:07
Leon sugar
0:13
Shogun mostly Yes, sir. Richard, thanks to come back on the show man. Thank
0:17
you for having me. He is in a producer executive producer for feef and Byron
0:22
Yes. In Melbourne Yes.
0:24
And and you're here to do a full retro and Mr. 90 sevens performance as a producer
0:30
so in 2019
0:32
is nailing it it's all
0:37
great hair. Yeah, now that
0:40
lovely smile as well. Yeah, yes. I like it. That's what you want, I guess is his talent. What you want to ease having a producer smiling I sometimes say. Now that radio is filming more and more. Yeah, you can see the shots of the producers in the background. Yeah, half the time they like channelling Dennis of Locky. Wow,
0:59
that's not good. Producer boys look like you're interested in
1:04
any rules in the studio that you've enforced or that were there before you got
1:09
there? Um, no not really. I think they everyone's pretty aware these days in these cameras like the live TV camera shot kind of thing. So you're cutting between shots constantly so they all were there on camera. And I think everyone these days are very relaxed with how they look as well. And it was a good breakfast right? It was like we just got up.
1:28
I was I was watching Chris fades Instagram. Yes, he's on Virgin Media and Dubai. Yeah. And they have a policy can't eat or drink in the studio. And so every time he's doing some form of like integration where the cafes obviously giving him giving him a free salad. He's always preface that with I'm just outside the shoot like he's literally in the corridor eating the salad so we can't thank coffee office. Oh, my coffee this morning coffee offer. It's actually a cross Very close to my face Bray went there this morning I went to which this was the dark one that I go to have loves that loves down that place
2:10
I was a fan and then I wasn't Yeah.
2:12
You actually mentioned pEv loves duck like a you regard to you know just on the show and because I wasn't living around there at never really connected until I think you were talking about potentially some awkward interaction happened to the cafe. My current barista for a seminar and she worked at pivotal of stuck really nicely
2:30
to it. I remember you did you work in parallel? She was so blown away that I remember on this nice Yeah, I remember you great coffee.
2:38
T shirts. Do you go there a bit because you went to this place I went on our wall that's my local coffee place. Very nice to might not like that. Yeah.
2:46
Coffee routine at the studio for six it like
2:49
for a show that starts at 6am unhealthy amounts of coffee in the morning. I think about again, it's really not good. I think I get a lot a lot of indigestion and I think it's because of coffee. In like, he's at the time it happened. It just, yeah, that sort of thing. And I think I've and I've now damji and I keep going, I should look into that, but I think it's because I wake up and I have like three coffees before I even ate anything. Yeah. And you actually saw
3:13
lying down as well. Have you seen that? I saw that Jace Hawkins partner, she was hung over and I messaged him about this and so they have a drip for a hangover. Now I've seen this in Li the US. Bali
3:33
Yeah, so I've heard it can happen in Australia. But I don't know if it's a very common thing.
3:39
There is a place in Melbourne. Yeah, it's very expensive, I think but la you can get it to your house. Yeah. Bali point is about using Balinese water in that trip. We
3:49
don't know if it's water. But you know, I just I do wonder about the maybe that's quite I've been to parts of Indonesia. I've been part of Asia before where I went into a kitchen and I saw the way that meet the kitchen. Well, because I was I was at a conference. And I saw some, but that was in Sarah, by a completely different part of Indonesia was sort of a little bit more sort of local. I guess they're sort of more sort of used to. I know
4:20
you mean, if you don't have to have a needle in your body. Yeah. Don't do it. Especially when you're in a foreign country. Yes. That's why don't get a tattoo in Bali
4:29
is a better thing.
4:29
There is some there is some really good tattoo shops in Bali. Like there was a lot of famous, but then there's the shitty ones right? The lower in the bogans to get the Omni sign. You know, the what's the Omni Omni? It's like the Yin and Yang. Oh,
4:42
yeah. It's called the Omni side. Omni
4:45
on Omni. Maybe I got that wrong. Look at that. Yes. Union Yang on the side. I'm pretty sure I like that. I don't even know where I pulled that word from. I don't think it's an omni sign on.
4:57
What is an omni sign though. Have you got it? songs. I've got a couple. Oh, that's what you're looking at life and
5:03
I am today. Yes.
5:07
Yeah, I got one one. Yeah, you should be able to get it through the show that Stacy doing got her dolphin removed from her lower back doing a integration of laser like a laser removal that's good onto the show.
5:22
No, but I've got a lighter upstairs. We use it for different reasons. But we could try it. Yeah.
5:26
I actually got into watching. I'm sure there's a tick tock account with his Instagram accounts, high amounts of followers. This is Melbourne based laser removal actually Australia based laser removal. Yeah, when in Brisbane and it's it's so addictive just watching them. Really get rid of it. dicey side hood. I didn't I wasn't I just saw content peripheral content.
5:52
Okay. More. I think it's meant to hurt more than getting it done.
5:57
to people.
5:58
Why I don't really matter. Keep it
6:00
very quick like,
6:03
like, depending on the size, it could be like 510 seconds of that and then it's done rather than ours. So there's a laser removal place right next to my house like it's the closest store. Yeah, to my apartment before all the shops on it straight. And I just thought we could like I've never seen one anywhere else
6:19
in tattoo parlours nowadays. Oh, really? Yeah. So they they offering tattoo removal, a lot of people get the sleeve taken off and they do it again. So you can actually like it's an extra sketch just skin can
6:31
be good than
6:32
it seems like having a alcohols anonymous at a Dan Murphy. Sort of a little bit of a, I guess
6:38
when you made your mistake, you can go and rectify.
6:43
office work sells the rubber as well. But you could do it sort of like surely you could integrate it. Have you leveraged being the executive producer of you know, a very well known breakfast radio show. To get into things for free. I mean that There is clauses when you work in radio it's like pipe Cypher cash or pay
7:05
cash or comment cash for comment like
7:08
that. Yeah, a lot of gone now. I remember hearing me that back in the day we'd like I am like, maybe john laws or like one of those guys and got a little trouble for cash or comment. I think that's pretty obvious that they're doing it for that reason. It's fine. But when it's suddenly just like, dropping things in Yeah, that's a bit on the iffy
7:30
but I mean, there's so you're not on air, but you're behind the scenes. Yes. running the show is I mean, Surely there's an influence. And and I want Mr. Nice to sort of decide from the learn everything about like, have you cold, somebody in, you know, just got them to sort of provide something or you.
7:49
I've put, I've put both Fifi and FEV the hosts have worked with actually in the back in the past. Merrick, what's the comedian? Yeah. What do you see him as well. I put them on references for rental application like that someone gets to call when these people have a quick chat with them has worked every single time
8:08
they actually chat to them or know what
8:11
they get the quick call again yeah work with him. Oh that's awesome is radio fun
8:17
chance to call
8:19
that was when you're renting because now you bought and you put favours the guarantor
8:26
no idea
8:27
it's a true about five with a bang one of the top Uber rates customers yeah
8:32
yeah so we cuz I know he used to just get Uber rates delivered to the radio studio in the mornings even though we have producers that will run down and get a coffee or food for him on a bagel from either side of town.
8:45
what he would do is
8:45
just go by that to a producer and say hey, my brakes is downstairs. Can you go grab?
8:52
We noticed he was using a lot and even just at home he you know he would order second dinners. This is why And he thought, let's just find out how much he is spending as well. So we had to get, we went to a great sort of head office and asked him if we could get that information. We had to fill out this really in depth form and get them to sign it. So Fifi and FEV decided to make sure they're okay with us having their data data and
9:19
you have finished signature stored in
9:22
my apartment, but um, they send it away and send it back. And yeah, he was in the
9:28
top 0.01% in Australia. The other one above him was a corporate account.
9:37
Full Time
9:40
$35,000 in a year, that's a lot she's so much.
9:44
Yeah, I mean, what is it I mean, that's getting to the point of just at right like just constantly ordering. What's the silliest thing that you saw him? order through brewery
9:54
I think it was it was big, crazy was it was just a lot of little separate ones. I think he would get Harmon sort of cook something and then his daughter girl can I have time and should be like yep cool. Just order it Yeah, so only be having few meals from around the world it's a good way of doing
10:08
it because like back in the day it was sort of like you had the option of eating what everyone else is eating on nuggets.
10:13
You know? What is it do you what is he like? On the menu?
10:18
What is it like a when I feel like when you growing up as a kid, there's things that you can
10:23
say that made me want nuggets? Yeah, well, no
10:29
no, I get that but mom, she loved the can Tom. You know like they can tongue jobs. Yeah, like satire and also great. Yeah, there I could you use cantar?
10:41
Well, like the calls or Woollies have their own sort of different premix one sometimes it's just an easy meal sometimes.
10:48
So when it comes to content, finding opportunities for content of seeing like what do you think the lens is? When when you should have in a show you're a producer? Yeah. And he observing the world. How is that what is that observation of the world and how do you convert to that?
11:04
I think I've got to the point now where I know the other guys so well and how they react almost to something so that's the kind of lens for me whether it's you know a political thing that you know the PC police have gone to America thing you know, oh we can't say this word anymore in schools fee gets really fired up about that so I'm going to send her away or get fair to tell her so it's kind of that reaction. It's getting to know I think the lens of a now is one Melbourne because we're very Melbourne show and but then how would they react to it?
11:35
You could almost create a fake bit of fake news around PC stuff to fake I think that would be quite funny. Like people aren't allowed to, to wear shoes in shopping
11:46
stories. You don't need to make them up those.
11:49
over Christmas Moreland city council banned people from leaving out a six pack of beer for the GABAs that we're working across the Christmas break they
11:58
cancelled so you couldn't Do that all you had to do that you can't do
12:02
la la. Yeah. Presently killing the bees. Yeah it's upsetting like the council said nine and what about the pirate?
12:11
You say that there's a there's a there was a school that instead of having a Santa they did like a piece a pirate Do you have a look at that nice seven what it was actually cold it was like the everyone's pirate pirate it was sort of like these two I guess like a pirate sort of detached to any one religion or so everyone's beliefs are covered and yeah,
12:34
but apart Yeah. What
12:36
else could be sustainability parties is called a fresh food picnic instead of a Christmas party. What do you think of that? You'd get around back fresh food swap,
12:48
but like a pirate like, like they like in the character of party and a part of the Caribbean? Is it like it's a mild version of what parts are hard to like? alcoholic murdering rapists.
13:00
school I wonder if that a working with children
13:04
they've banned ball sports at some school the
13:07
best one way there was one a cover which cancel it was it was somewhere you know, north of here, but they banned balloons, you know no balloons anywhere.
13:16
I agree with that I went to the penguins. The other month a Philip holiday. Yes. Yep. And they did a big bit beforehand I saw all these
13:25
sustainable, sustainable believe it was.
13:28
There was there was there was big jars of straws and balloons and all that sort of thing. And they were all like, everyone move from using balloons to bubbles to help save the penguins. And so I've actually normally especially the radio pardon me, always goes to like every radio producer needs a confetti cannon. Yet access to letters or numbers in the form of balloons. Yes. I think that's mainly that's the two things
14:00
That's
14:03
tucky big I didn't hear hear anything about Pataki this year. What what?
14:06
No changes really fuck them
14:11
anything it
14:15
normally does it because they'd play the 380
14:16
Yeah, that's right we gave away but donkey donkey donkey donkey is too expensive we left it last minute Mike come on we didn't have you running around for
14:27
Yeah. And so
14:30
she wasn't with us then.
14:32
It was he was on
14:34
so I'm gonna have you this year. Didn't get it
14:38
doesn't even he doesn't even he doesn't eat much meat. So we're doing something we did something with Hayden did we is that episode came out yesterday, yesterday. And 97 won't eat the chicken wings that Hayden's man he doesn't like is it chicken with bones?
14:57
Any bones in the chicken?
14:59
Yes, disgusting. people that love chicken wings I don't get it like you're like scavenging for little yeah most of the meat between bones it's good it's great
15:09
it's nice to be able to say the target and get them
15:15
chicken
15:16
so what about what about if it's that type of chicken but Mike they're like if you go to a chicken place yeah there you go your wings chicken now now i mean i'm thinking like you go to like those American style wing places you can get like tenders Are you gonna get a tender
15:33
yeah missing I thought he was onto a winner when we were at I'm at what was it a waffle house in the states
15:40
and what was that a place called been? sobs no race. Something like race you look up on Instagram you'll find it but it was a honey house waffle chicken and waffles and
15:52
chicken waffles. He got fried chicken breast and
15:59
others being real estate Trying to get like
16:02
chickens Really?
16:05
rocks rhaskos brosco
16:09
it seemed like a moot it's a bit of
16:13
a second so
16:14
you're not eating much meat was just you're cutting it out completely now probably have made twice awake. Okay, you guys both still made it? Yeah, yeah, yes how many people I know jumped on so I did video for four weeks yeah
16:27
and then I just I wasn't I wasn't doing it right like it felt like I was replacing it with Reese's Peanut Butter Cups.
16:35
That's not a good you
16:38
know I just I'm finding really interesting this this year with everything coming out that Christmas Day is gonna be a real challenge for people I go
16:46
What do we eat today? Yeah, I wonder if there's, I guess there's the whole fo like I was talking to him talking about the I've been to the deli. That's like it's like a deli but like none of it's made. One day how I wouldn't have that would go. Because I was asking why do people go when they're thinking they're actually buying Salamis like, yeah. And so he reckons that's the future.
17:11
The goal is to trick people.
17:13
There is an element of like trying to make it as a like, universal as possible.
17:21
My son's Christmas party, and there was a sausage sizzle. And there's very limited sausages left by the time me and one of the other dads went over. And then he's at it. She's like, I could see him and I thought I said to him, you know, that's not a real sausage. And as soon as he realised it wasn't a real sausage, he was so like the tight like he he was thinking it was a shitty tasting. Yeah, but as soon as he realised that wasn't real. Oh, what is this fucking thing? I get his mind of a meta.
17:53
Absolutely.
17:54
So when you win Yeah, he wasn't. But when he when you work out, it's
17:58
the fake stuff eating less money. I think is a good thing. I think if we choose how much we're writing nothing wrong with
18:03
it, I think it's all positive in terms of sort of that the sensitivities that are 2019 moving into 2020 we're talking about the schools, the balloons, the maid, what have you saying? That is sort of really sort of rattled the team not even, but what's the consideration from a team perspective, that it is Metro Radio,
18:27
everything's gonna be put through a filter again, like these days now as well because you go if we say something like that, is that gonna upset a whole different audience as well? They're not so you don't want to feel to yourself where it is to the point where everything is just bland and you can't have an opinion. I think you just be very careful with not overdoing it and smashing something every day or both. faithfully and fellas you have both flirted with becoming vegan. Faith went vegan for about a week.
18:54
She also did a weekend where she watched every Netflix documentary, which is a real head fuck because by the end Like a wacky
19:00
radio stuff this is her she was like not going to I think that's a good challenge it was iraq i could watch days without being affected and she got affected fermat awake every made a very what
19:10
it was almost like the it's like the knives over for today
19:12
yeah all those different ones which she did point out as well all a very conflicting
19:19
you know now ideology
19:22
but FEV now is since November has become pescetarian and the fish he thought he was going to go vegan, but he's
19:30
going hard with pescetarian what the Uber Eats choice for someone who's well he gets
19:35
a little lobster cave today.
19:39
Mars I think my mom and dad's place is like seafood restaurant called the lobster guy. Yeah. And he posts on his Instagram with tagging of
19:48
some sort of deal. Yeah, that is actually gonna drive it drive and now I do wonder about that like what? Maybe there's going to be a correction but when was the last time you cold up? restaurant like a pizza place to order and get delivery.
20:04
We do it all the time. Sorry not delivery. We do it to pick it up. Yeah, getting the pickup. Yeah, I suppose. Yeah,
20:10
delivery. Like there's something interesting about like, I sort of Miss opening the door and having like them wearing a uniform.
20:17
Yeah. I know a guy went to primary school with I see him. He's a pizza delivery driver for a local place that only they have. I don't think they have Uber, they have menu log, and then they have their own internal delivery guy. Do you think is suffering from that though? Because I feel like you'd lose a lot of business just because you're not on there. I think this was the outcry. 2017 of like people, you know, businesses are too affected everyone's land into three different services through door delivery.
20:48
Uber, there's doordash which is doing as well. And so the interesting thing about doordash is that obviously scraped some database, so that have everything on there. Yeah, but the restaurant doesn't even have to buy in. But the restaurant doesn't even have to take. So it's like, this isn't an unusual generally
21:05
ordering for whoever. And then there's a middleman essentially as opposed to teaming up. Yeah, they can, which is sort of strange.
21:11
Uber provide hardware. So they've got the iPad or the little screen that
21:16
dB. You know what I saw? That was awesome. I think it was my, I think was delivery in the UK. Look it up nice seven. But this YouTuber, tried to work out whether he could set up a restaurant in his apartment. Yeah. And so he bought frozen meals from the supermarket down the road, and took photos of the mall and actually got verified. And so he was taking orders from his apartment. And it all he was doing was microwaving the meal.
21:47
Was he getting a writing
21:48
job like this? And the thing was that he wasn't getting many orders. And so you can do with a lot of these services. Now you can put discounts and stuff. And so he was like, 40% off or whatever. And so it's like, I'm going Another one for the linguini or whatever
22:04
it was Yeah, he made 100 pound
22:06
Yeah.
22:08
The funny thing is they gave him like a like a point of sale like iPad not something a receipt printer. You know?
22:16
I'd heard about that in Melbourne. A burger place someone was doing burgers from the house at some point that was it. Did you hear any of this stuff?
22:26
No, I didn't hear that one. But there's the I think one of them I'm not sure if it's delivery or Uber
22:33
door still around or no food or something went one of the things that might have been the one that went there was remember deliver on through door look the same at the same time through door I had the
22:43
pink pink I don't think the doors allowed
22:45
Yeah, I think that might have gone
22:47
he was delivered. They have like a mini kitchen setup where it's literally they don't sell to public it's just for deliveries Mr. Miyagi do that.
22:55
Yeah, I think it is do it as well. Raiders have little radio Which is an offshoot, like two doors down, like where they just do that, but there's one
23:06
there's a kitchen that just has all types of food. So it's almost like rooms over so you go What do I feel like tonight? And I think it's branded restaurant from the maybe it's delivered.
23:15
That's great. So now how makes it Redfern convenience store? Yeah, they do delivery through their convenience stores so you can get like chocolate through and through deliver delivery. Yeah. So you can get all that and I'm noticing that
23:30
like, because the whole point. The whole point of his thing is to have his favourite customers coming. Is he just gonna start losing? Well, it's also that but also He's part
23:39
it's convenience. It's a very competitive
23:45
Instagram feed is just me his favourite delivery drivers.
23:49
Yeah, this means two stories of the receipts of what people are ordering devices. Well, there was there was a couple of times where I was like
24:03
I think it's such a great idea because
24:06
people are ordering packets of chips and lamington packet of chips.
24:10
It's 1am stoners that can't get out of their house. So
24:13
my favourite one was the messaging I think was a bit off. It was like avoid the Sydney smoke order on the riders.
24:26
Someone's got to do it.
24:26
someone's doing it.
24:29
Again, you know, health compound digitrax. Absolutely. Have you guys been on the page for the Redford comedians?
24:36
Yes. Yeah. Yeah, we actually did a live show, which was great. And then yeah, so he he featured us then which was
24:43
because I used to live around the corner from that store. And all my friends were just so so desperate to be on feature on the page. And, but then you need like, you can't go in you got to play it cool. You can't go in and just go What can I be in the page
24:59
order and Passionate if I was to do it I'd be like my I need 1000 Lacroix I made the bug invest in
25:06
is a big investment might have a plant like he got he bought one of the T shirts then the merge and took it to try.
25:15
Is this
25:15
was he on TV now because it was a guy I saw that Adam was talking about it where there was a guy who was in New Zealand because he got he got fired or something. Oh, he got fired. He's the interview like he's exit interview for his work. He dressed up as a clown. I heard about that. Yeah. And so then he he was interviewed on one of the talk shows and he was wearing a red thing. Too shy.
25:42
No, no, it wasn't that one. No, no, he wasn't as good as that now.
25:49
So if we were to relate this back to radio what I've done isn't normally you have you know, if you have three callers
25:54
yet, put the good one at the end at sometimes if the story before you're soliciting isn't so good. Would you like well, the calls on the musical? Yeah, just one break.
26:02
Just drop it. So just drop it. And sorry, I
26:06
don't hear. So
26:08
I bought a T shirt. I'm going to the UK to Glastonbury this festival, and I'm going to wear it in front of the iconic stage, get a photo and send it back. And within an hour it was posted in there was like, Greg, I'm done here. But he didn't
26:21
get he wasn't officially a
26:25
used to be. Well, that's a good point. Well, I used to be a customer quite frequently. There's a specific benchmark. Okay, so he's failed, but you can tell him that then I'm not
26:33
what do you what are your benchmarks of the show? And what is the benchmark for on radio people?
26:38
benchmarks like a regular segment that you do, you know, usually once a week, once a day, you're looking at benchmarks we change around a lot. We're trying to Yankees one of the biggest ones which you travelled for that we travel to. Yes, we have time for that. Yeah, yeah. We it was essentially because we realised the tradies listened to the show. A lot between six and seven you know that early start in the morning and we want some sort of something to do with them because it is really good audience to reach out to and so we thought let's just do a karaoke segment with tradies that she started know it started organically because it was a video on the Today Show or sunrise or something of a trading singing opera. And we thought let's see if there's any tradies that can sing like that as well call it for some tradies some came through and sang and we realised they have no filter tradies they just one they just happy to do anything. Always offer some fun. Yeah, but also have a very weird selection of music. When you hear one coffee go to Jimmy Barnes on here. Now I'm gonna Kelly Clarkson. Number four. Always just always kill what you think when
27:43
you think of tradies you think of triple m
27:45
that's Yeah. We went up to different
27:49
so it's a type of I guess the fox or he's listening, trading a certain trades Do you find that bricklayers stick to triple A lot of
27:59
a lot of cheese Peace Corps
28:01
good looking so
28:03
we also do like Ben world trade is like we've had truck drivers which technically could be a trade right person, sort of thing. But anyway, so we've done the that version then we did like a rooftop rooftop we had some perform for a huge crowds with a live trailer he live. And then this year, we did try the Oto, which we took tradie to the home of karaoke to Tokyo in Japan, to compete in the karaoke competition.
28:30
trainee, it couldn't get any better than name and then try the IKEA. And you know, I've got I've
28:35
got the next one for next year for this year. Can you say I'm not gonna say?
28:40
Is it gonna be me travelling somewhere?
28:43
Hopefully, yes, we're now trying to work
28:47
with the client who paid for you guys to go What was the supporting partner in that shame
28:51
panel service.
28:54
And we had one of the panel betas from one of their stores caught up in intimate like, we've got to bring them
29:01
He was one of the traders that came with us.
29:03
And so what is for people who don't know within the radio space? What's the requirement? If they throw a bunch of cash at something like this? What does that look like from a content integration point of view? When does it start?
29:15
Well, there's usually by a sponsorship package. So like you're promoting, you're sorry, you're sponsoring the show. So you'll get, you know, daily mentions, you'll get mentions on social media, which is all sort of that three sales, sales people
29:27
they structured or they scripted or they off the cuff,
29:30
a bit of everything, and they kind of get the gist of what we're doing. And they there are some recorded lines that are scripted and approved, usually, but then, when it comes to being part of an integration within the show, they've got to give her the trust for
29:43
the show to kind of
29:44
own it. They know where it's sort of going, but they're very, very good with that sort of stuff. Have
29:48
you had a favourite credit line in 2019 that so I remember there was moments where when I was working on FIFA and jewels were they had to mention and whether it be named or whatever and they just worked out a really good way of doing it. Where, yeah, take that all yet. Now we've got that credit. Is there been anything that's been like a really natural credit?
30:09
Or do you know it worked really well for us? We were sponsored by Mandalay homes, which is a home to land packages. beverage, which is you know, 40 minutes from the city and I'm gonna be the airport. Yeah, yeah. And so they've been quite a good sponsor to us last year and next year as well. And we lived there for one night. So we took the show there for a night, right and did all the things that they were wanting to promote,
30:37
do they have because I remember radio karate in about 2006 did a video which got onto the comedy channel where they were in a display home, and there were someone was living in a display high water. And like it was like it was like a mockumentary. So this was a it more than just a display home. This was actually it had utility de
31:00
So I think someone I think someone actually just rent we rented it almost from him for a couple of days and they got all of that for which was good. But it just sort of allowed our guys to live there and like there's a golf course on the back of the house, there was a pool, a clubhouse, like all those sort of things and the guys all just do that record some content, but then moving forward anytime we have them on as a sponsor. Our guys just refer live there and go to the pool. You push me to the pool like it's because they've lived the edge. It's just naturally something that's happened to them now that doesn't feel like they're making something up. It's a genuine sponsorship. I remember
31:35
I got in trouble from Carrie Jones, who was a producer here. When I was a fan, Joel's I meant I did a tweet about a restaurant that I wasn't happy with. It was a client.
31:46
Yeah. be super careful. I
31:50
yeah, I think this is for social media. And there is a social media policy if you I'm always very careful with like
31:58
that's why I kept trying
32:01
Because I guess I remember Tim Lee had not Tim Lee on Instagram or whatever it is. I'm not Tim Lee is a way of like, being able to slam people and being like that it's a parody account. It's not me. That's a very good
32:11
point. Like, I'm like everyone has, you know, views and opinions on my own on that. But I think that any coverage was sitting. Like
32:18
if it loses the business money, you still wants the business man, totally.
32:22
But what about doing like talk break? So for instance, if I'm at McDonald's, and I find some bug in the thing, but it's a Big Mac, and it's very related to that story. Is that what's the filter system like a you because I know that some sensitivity that we have, it's like, yeah, 97 gets these beautiful hair done by Rachel vitolo. Australia's number one hair colorist. If a guest comes into place, once when, when someone comes in goes on about your hair. I'm like that, but seriously, it's quite nice. And Rachel did a beautiful job I mentioned already. Oh, yeah.
32:56
Yeah. So it's hard like look If it's if it's big news, if it's in the news, you kind of go if it's necessary to the story, you've got to mention it because you're reporting on something. But if it's irrelevant kind of part of what you just got out of the burger place, or I was at a fast food restaurant that runs the district Donald.
33:18
Have you had any moments though, where you get the call where they are? mentioned that I haven't?
33:23
Oh, no, I haven't actually know,
33:26
is the sensitivity because I guess this in real time saving me or whatever. So if you're doing something on the vegetto stuff, and being like, makes fact, I guess if you just think about all the companies that associated with meat, yeah, is it just like in, you know, in this day and age, so they just accept the fact that people have a diverse range of opinions on it. We have to
33:46
look at social media, you can't control every single comment happening around the world and I suppose if you're a big media company, that's kind of someone you can have more control, but at the end of the day, you you've got to have opinions and Just be super careful. You got you do so you got like a
34:03
AD AD blocks every 15 minutes. Yeah, they're right just triggering off sort of five ads. Yeah. Are you thinking at the metro level? What what are those ads and what is the content and doesn't matter like to them?
34:16
Never think about that. That's good. I'll always be like you're very conscious of the big Yeah, the big companies and who could be and I'm always if we're doing a phone topic when someone's calling through and going wherever you found something weird in your food, I'd tell every call I don't say the brand. Just say I was having a burger or whatever it is just because again, is it you don't need to know
34:34
I love the idea that punters just backing it up.
34:40
When I say a brand new like coming up next.
34:44
I mean then so what we're worried about is advertisers in one thing pulling cash but then the on the other side, it's the listeners thinking if I can just control both these brands is sell out. So there
34:56
you go. So I guess like the the example is like if we have A mate of the show some people want like that person some people will there's all that like it you can have someone that you're friends with but other people hate if someone comes on the show and then says something disparagingly about the, that person that you're friends with, you want to be able to protect them in some way right because like you it's not about like bullshitting, but it's just like being a little bit of a filter system. I guess that's the same thing with brands if you've got partners that are supporting and working and get to see the inside bit of how hard it actually is to run a restaurant.
35:35
Yeah, everyone is suffering right now. I think even in the big one, like I get with look along the streets, you know, this isn't also Melvin there's so many smaller stores shutting down and it is genuinely because of biggest stores taking their you know, own online stores as well. But even these the big supermarkets are suffering as well like no one's like everything sort of just diluting it and and being spread out and people are losing money from what They thought they can absolutely smash
36:02
yeah it's it's a weird time yet so this year 2020 Yes. What are you excited about?
36:11
Oh, god I haven't thought about that yet. I'm not really like you know what we're talking about a job we went for that I've got a good stable job and last year I bought an apartment with my first time buying if it was
36:29
not but that was the that was the whole Santa debacle the north side It was a big issue around Collingwood battles
36:36
from my from grass. Last time was on the show.
36:41
I had artificial grace installed in my balcony my my apartment block is a few blocks down and that the sand is still making its way.
36:52
They actually isn't upset with we because we have a Facebook group in this apartment. And there's about 100 must be like 80 or 90. I think it apartments in this is complex. And there's a Facebook group which when I first moved in I thought that's a really cool idea. It's like Secret Life of us like everyone's friends as a communal roof talk
37:09
about Facebook in general. Right? Right. So Secret Life of us.
37:13
That's it. But then yeah, because originally it was like nice messages like, Hey, I'm moving on Thursday. Can anyone help me get a free job or Yeah, I am having drinks on the rooftop tomorrow night someone will come up. It's it's become a point where everyone's got this open slather? Yeah, I'm going to just complain and bitch about stuff. And is it all owners?
37:31
Or is it people who rent the rent
37:34
night? If you rent you can be on the group as well.
37:37
Right? You still a member of a group? Where were you still live? And she's always saying, I'm so glad we don't live there. Because always I, Which idiot put this couch in the rubble in their bedroom.
37:47
And what I've realised is that, you know, all these complaints and these negative things coming through, none of us in this apartment building would know about if this Facebook group doesn't exist, like it's, it's like exactly right. So I the first time I've, I've had so last week the week before had a bit of a little bit of party, not a party. I had people over for drinks and I go to it how many people? Seven or eight. Okay, bad. What's the small gather? Yeah. rooftop. And at 10 o'clock, it was wet. Yep. Cool. Let's head back downstairs to my apartment because dynamite noise and the roof just that's the official time for you know, cut off. We had drinks and there's a few of those people left. So by the end of three, four or five hours, I'm rounding up balcony, having some drinks, having a smoke having a chat. And wensel about three or 4am and we weren't playing music but we turn the music down. Remember that because it's like, let's not play the music too loud.
38:42
so angry. I can tell by saying that.
38:49
I'm drunk now.
38:51
But I understand look, people people do work and people will have to have you know the quite and stuff but they are soundproof doors and windows in a place because we live next to a massive Live music venue. So you need to bear to close the doors and windows and have no noise. So someone wrote this complaint like a really just like it was two paragraphs of like, had days, but it was very great a phone you know, blah blah blah people are trying to sleep you are up all night with loud music and throwing cigarette butts and I guarantee we work very cigarette butts because we don't. But uh, and then people start chiming in and it became a bit of a witch hunt. I like I think it was level seven or 704. And I'm six or four should have said actually, she's been like it was almost trying to pinpoint who it was. And it was a real thing. I was about to go. Yeah, I heard it.
39:43
It's the grace. I don't
39:46
know who it is. And they have dogs at box like at 6am every morning and I felt like Why don't you shut your dogs up. But yeah, but then.
39:54
I tried yelling out to them, but they didn't hear us and I didn't know
40:00
On my fucking door,
40:00
that's the thing. Got it. But then at the end of it, I thought I felt stress for about a day because I want to be that ticket. I never have parties and stuff at my house. And again, we were very careful not to have loud music and stuff. It was just obviously we're talking too loud. And then I realised no fuck if I didn't even have this Facebook page. I wouldn't know about Yeah, I mean, these are just all these people are just finding a way to so what did you do? another party
40:32
shouldn't have a microphone This is what the this is what it's giving them an opportunity to do it.
40:38
It's really it's morphed into this was a nice little sort of community and now it's a bit like, oh, you're taking charge it could you turn the culture
40:45
around? How about you do a post being like, you know, end of the year or whatever and just being like really nice. Canadian stole approach, community member of the wakey What about you could even do something around like, you're a producer, you could do something around highlights. Maybe you could do a fact this is good. This is good. What about you write a song? Yeah. Where it's all about the shit that went down in the building in 2019. So it's like,
41:16
yeah, sand in the air.
41:20
Now you get to bury the lead.
41:22
No, but I think it could be like, if you Peridot, like, if you if you make it satirical, then people can sort of deal with the issues more right? So it's like, noises after 10 sand in the air. Hey, everybody go.
41:37
You could you get a hot outsource the Social Media Manager to be the community manager.
41:43
Great idea.
41:44
Thanks for getting back. We're looking into and you build out some character that acts like they're not from the character.
41:52
How funny would it be to have a character in the
41:55
mascot for the building? Jeff? No.
41:59
No I'm just yeah What about his I'm excited who was Hey What about what he's Dave Russ? Hey, yeah, it can be Kim's profile I think it's definitely something maybe
42:13
using it needs a moderator like someone someone moderating
42:17
someone that doesn't care it doesn't even live there is I'll
42:19
be honest you know what I commented on something this morning just to alleviate my guilt because someone last night must have been having a party I didn't hear it because soundproof windows Yeah, but
42:30
we're always someone had a party good didn't hear anything Good job guys.
42:34
Someone write this last night. Hey guys, we're in fibre one and I've been waking up by stomping and banging from the apartment above us. It's been going for at least an hour now I'm not quite sure which apartment is but it's two o'clock in the morning. would appreciate if you could chill out up there that was posted at that time. That time
42:49
fucking Close your eyes and meditate.
42:52
That's it headphones. Sound noise sounds like probably also a good reminder to everyone else in the building not to be to be considered to be neighbours bubble up, Holly. I know Right off yeah I'm on level six and could hear something from down the hall wasn't sure which number though because it made me feel dumb I was like yeah this is not good and it kind of takes me out of the picture
43:13
you're absolutely nothing is you're also Talia that's the other thing. You probably should start trying to get other accounts in there that to you. So then when it comes to things like polling, so if they ever do a poll around then you've got more weight on the whole pole because you've got you keep
43:36
on the one. I'm in the owners Corp as well. So that's probably more professional than just a show Facebook was where
43:45
it's all going though. It's true. So if you take any specific Do they have treasuries and stuff in earnest cool.
43:52
I think as a group in the Owners Club, we all agree on finances and stuff for the apartment building
43:57
any weird expenses that you've had.
44:01
No not really we've been yes CCTV yeah we have actually someone tried to break in so we we had to we said let's just get more CCTV around the back of the building just covers us insurance was going well that's pretty much it
44:15
What's your body corporate fee
44:20
remember now rights and should like its own life
44:24
rights and body quote Faisal what's your internet like it's not bad it's it's we're forced to go with the one which one is
44:31
it g telecom is it really one of I ever heard of its own is it on Mike this the same straight because I got installed internet at our place the same day we moved in was Jay telecom and now very good
44:47
things that you should call them and they just flick it yes which is all connect not
44:50
bad but you finding out yeah trying to telecom he looking at light light notices
45:00
I'm just going to resign fast.
45:03
Yeah, it's fine. I haven't had any issues with I don't I don't measure the speed on what you want to
45:12
measure it but sounds like a good evening. Pete Shepherd just moved into a place that was the first thing getting him to test do speed tests to death, or ended up going NBN but the thing is that the problem was that he he was on the lowest plan. So he's getting 11 megabits down one megabit up. Yeah, was he gonna run as worse lady yourself?
45:36
Yeah. So you know what, I think he might just be being a taught us because the one above it's far more
45:41
good. So you dollars 10 bucks more and he gets like, 48 I think that's
45:45
the one I'm on. mbn Yeah, that's
45:48
60 bucks a month or something. And it's
45:50
completely It was a time in 2019 that I had like industrial grade. Because I like you can go as fast as you want. So I got like, 200 megabits Up and down. It was like you paying 100. And it Oh, it was ridiculous so far, but it was so fast that I couldn't even use it all. So I ended up downgrading.
46:08
And so it's 20. So it's 2019 you born and apartments. great accomplishment.
46:13
So I think it's just nice to sort of be settled because I've worked in radio for 11 years I've been at the company and I've moved around a fair bit moved from show to show move interstate back and forwards, and it's just nice to have somewhere I can set up just for a little bit and just breathe and enjoy and the weather, the redundancies. The wind it was was
46:36
you've got a job. I mean, in terms of being in those senior positions, talent or on contracts that they signed for X amount of years. Is it just your you've got a job
46:50
with talent just if talent was to move? Yeah, tomorrow, would you still be the breakfast?
46:55
It has a way
46:56
Yeah, you're I'm employed by that station, to be Executive breakfast Yeah, so I'm not like a contracted Yeah. You trying to poach me?
47:05
Yeah. We thought
47:07
about that
47:13
yeah if we had Leon and 97 working together yeah I'm stopping right yeah big big thing we've got 10 years so we've got a while so if in like two years time you like
47:26
yeah it's not rock solid Facebook.
47:29
The yeah it makes sense to sort of just bunker down you've got got it all sorted. Yeah. Does that not mean I think we can get in the trap of like, we need to progress so we're always looking like it's it's counterintuitive, like counterintuitive, but we spend so much time trying to make it make something of our career or so always.
47:51
Just like it's about the whole thing of like if being present is the goal. Yeah. And trying to force that through thinking about the future doesn't really work. Yeah, like there's
48:01
always people like, what's next for you? What's next? What's next? wases I've been five years and I don't like radio can be so predictable. Like, there's no real proper end goal for me right now. Because it's going to be different in five years, 10 years, whatever it is, I'm happy to ride the way but also I'm very present in I love my job and I'm make sure I do my best every single day, but also kicking myself creatively. You know, having that creative Yeah, that's it. I'm still doing that as well. Like it's, there's always a chance that and I you know, have fun on the side of the wall like I'm keep myself balanced. Yeah,
48:33
you did the DJing stuff, DJ. And that's, I think,
48:35
you know what, this this year, I want to focus more on like that. So I think last year, last time, I was on the show, I just started Yeah, day Chang and when I say DJ, I'm not a DJ, like
48:48
a pickup, but there's something so fun about that. Like, I'm actually seeing the we had grant smiley on the show. Yeah, lovely dude. And the DJ.
48:57
Yeah, but not a DJ. He's a DJ.
48:59
Something about this the performance in just being like being able to because I see your Insta stories or whatever and just being able to control the room and grants your fucking mind
49:14
covering the lack of skill I have with props
49:18
machine for the body. Good night. Let's see. Yeah, we had confetti cannons. The other week there was bought by degradable, they disintegrated and no straws. But so I started DJ in the sense of a friend of mine had a bar and said, Hey, don't a DJ. I don't know how to because you'll be fine just Spotify up and some CDs and just play some songs and have some fun. And then progress my friend open the bar. She asked me to DJ there and I started to teach myself on the deck swab. Within the last year. I've picked up a lot more skills than I used to have. But I've been asked to DJ a gig a several times I said no because I'm scared and we get found out that I'm not a DJ Like, I'm not really DJ.
50:03
This has happened to us with MTV, MTV and visit Victoria. MTV said, Guys, we want to get you on doing this six music events, we want you to do coverage for them. They're like, you know, MTV was saying, you're gonna be the music correspondence, but we don't get that you're not really like fully into music. And then so we're like, great, they understand our brand and what we're about. And then we met with visit Vic. And they're like, you know, it's great that he is, you know, passionate about music. Yeah. And we're just like, yes, yes, yes. Yeah, I love music. Yeah, I know, dude, I know vinyl. Yeah. Is that a little bit like that? On the Spotify and then before you know it yet, I'm doing it. For Victoria. I'm doing an event in
50:45
like two weeks for the radio station. Now grow this. There's an artist right now. I could lose. Oh, I'm not sure.
50:50
Yeah, you probably would. Because you
50:53
know it. Yes.
50:55
But now we can
50:58
just give him one of the main sauce.
51:01
Juice I'm trying to think of trying to which one he would know.
51:05
The one that's played on the radio constantly.
51:09
Like what am I doing?
51:16
Don't buy it and it says I don't want to
51:18
become the biggest house in the world. She had a Grammy nomination because then what's her name?
51:23
Celine Dion? You
51:24
know, Billie Holiday.
51:28
You go right now. Yeah. Billy Eilish was big earlier this year. She's I saw the saw the year in the UK came back and thought she's gonna be massive. We should really get this is Lizzie. Lizzie.
51:40
That's exactly what my mom's
51:43
lazy cheap.
51:46
But I came back is like we really need to get on to her as a radio station. She's gonna be huge. Eventually we're going to and we're playing a music now like everyone is but she's coming to Australia and we pushed now she's planning a concert for Alison's party with with her And we need like a support so DJ person beforehand and ally Williams a massive fan. He was one pushing this.we should just get him to do it. This
52:10
is this what this is January 13. Oh, this is awesome.
52:13
Yeah, I'm cheating myself and
52:15
I have Sunday.
52:16
It's a Monday.
52:18
Not the best day for a DJ.
52:21
So well that's even harder because if it's a Saturday people are drunk and they Yeah, again like they don't really know but it's a Monday. So since then I've like watch my music collection since I found out I've got new equipment, new CDs, I'm repurchasing all like music because I was just reading stuff on YouTube and I realised they terrible quality. So when you play like speakers at a bar at three in the morning, it doesn't matter if you're on a like a prop a
52:51
stage party for the biggest artist in the world. I really need to so we you know, we practice the set where you go All the songs
53:01
I don't want to like sit at it I never go in with an idea of set I just have I know a lot of music and I just go I'll start with something I know that gets everyone going and they'll read the vibe like the bar and work at last a lot of hands parties you know a lot of different vibes that people come in the 70s 80s bar and I'll see if it hands party comes in and then not much of a dance for Whitney Houston on a dancer somebody gets them all up and then you gotta do more female
53:26
yeah love that she's thinking what's next level Cox straws.
53:35
The paper ones Oh, just go saw
53:47
this the title of today's episode Yeah,
53:49
yeah, look, so it's tonight
53:54
nine days Yeah. And um, yeah, I'll be shooting myself still like I'm
53:59
yeah, just don't play me. Music
54:06
I actually
54:07
do I bring my bubble machines my friends bar. Do I like, what about this
54:13
shit? Yeah, okay, I was it was him saying a Christmas event. And logistically they needed some work in regards to all the sets. And they were, they were going overtime so it was meant to go from like 10am to midday. Yeah. And when I got the run sheet it said like 10am till 1250 those extra 15 minutes of stuff, right? But no, no one who was attending the event knew that. And there was you know, the song What is it like Santa Claus or like, the high five one that they always play like Santa is coming that close coming to town and so Santa Claus. You know, Santa Claus. I'm trying to think of how it goes. Type in high five Santa is coming. But there's this like that. Yeah, there's it. There's a classic song that like carols by candlelight they always play and what something gets kids pumped guarantee. Me it's definitely not
55:10
sad it's not it's not a it's called Santa Claus is coming.
55:14
Can you? Please can you get the lyrics?
55:18
Santa Claus is coming. He's not very far away. Time to hang your stockings up. Tomorrow's Christmas day going. I don't know. Yeah. Put a piece of pie or cake on a pretty Christmas plate. Remember Rudolph's carrot. Oh, we can hardly wait. I never had the Christmas tree is twinkling Christmas pudding staring presidents are all wrapped in step because everybody's head
55:45
Santa Claus is coming Santa. You know what can you just know that we never played copyrights. If you just play 10 seconds of a place
55:51
you're using your one copyright? Yeah.
55:53
High five takes me down. Let it be it. Can you play place?
55:56

55:59

56:06
Santa Claus is coming. That was perfect
56:13
because that was a karaoke version even harder for
56:17
that's the
56:19
song. So what happened at the event? So something like it the there was a group that were doing the song Santa Claus is coming soon,
56:32
which is off of another song.
56:34
Yeah, sounds like it was coming to town. Right.
56:42
So they someone played this summer I like it so they like a group perform the song. And then there was a lady on a performer. Two performances after and her set. She will running over time. Yeah. And she's like, plays that song and it like she's I know that it's already been played, but let's do it again. And she had and like if you were to cut like we should make cutting stuff out, right? Be like from a timing perspective and she played it earlier. So it was so brave to have someone else play a song. three songs before you and then go. Let's do it again.
57:20
That is super bright. Yeah, like it's
57:22
so definitely done. impliedly xos music I think that's safe to say it definitely did very good.
57:27
What how many people were what where's that being rooftop?
