Josh Janssen: [00:00:00] it's the daily talk show episode 899.
Tommy Jackett: [00:00:08] What is happening? So what's going on. It's waking banter with mr. 97. Welcome to the show what's happening. How are we?
Josh Janssen: [00:00:19] You guys? Right.
Mason Lauder: [00:00:21] So I've actually
Jess Lucas: [00:00:23] tried. The, my nickname is star.
Mason Lauder: [00:00:26] I just, I just thought we were doing a work in progress, but I didn't, like I was waiting for
Tommy Jackett: [00:00:34] Jess wanted a nickname and we've now called her a whippet. Oh, I whip, which is her favorite dog, but
Mason Lauder: [00:00:43] it's not got to do with business meetings.
Jess Lucas: [00:00:45] No, it kind of does because it plays the two cards
Mason Lauder: [00:00:48] because
Tommy Jackett: [00:00:49] I love it. We can
Jess Lucas: [00:00:50] work in progress and then also with it,
Tommy Jackett: [00:00:53] I like it because if we just drop the H and just, it is WIP, it is like, You as a human are a work in progress as we all are.
You like whips the meetings and you like whippets it's, you know, the, the triple.
Josh Janssen: [00:01:08] Yeah,
Tommy Jackett: [00:01:09] it's a triple whammy name.
Jess Lucas: [00:01:10] Thank you for, um, I think Josh needs to start implementing it in to his vernacular. For
Josh Janssen: [00:01:15] me, I've been struggling with nicknames in general because, um, with mr 97, uh, we have, uh, Simon Taylor on screenplay Sunday.
And, uh, I got into my head that he may have not known Mason and mr. Nanny. So he said, Oh, I've met Mason before. Hmm. And then in that moment, for whatever reason, I didn't just say yes, we also call him mr. 97. And so then I interchange change throughout the, uh, screenplay Sunday between, uh, mace Mason serves and 97.
It's just a bit of a mess.
Mason Lauder: [00:01:53] Yeah. Well, the other thing is, well,
Josh Janssen: [00:01:55] you.
Mason Lauder: [00:01:56] When, when Nissan came on Thursday, you called him mace.
Josh Janssen: [00:02:02] I did. I fixed that though? I didn't. I said, Oh, nice. I ended up just calling him Nissan because it's too Mason. Nice. It's too similar. Don't you agree? Yeah. Yeah, I get it. I'm just sick of names in the, not, not using them anymore.
Get rid of them. Just, yeah, just a number system. The bottom, right. Just location screen. Um,
Tommy Jackett: [00:02:29] no, the V mix link. You hit him with nine, five.
Josh Janssen: [00:02:34] You talk about in jokes. There's this one for you.
Tommy Jackett: [00:02:39] If
Josh Janssen: [00:02:40] they don't get it, they weren't appreciative. Exactly. I didn't deserve it. Um, I got a cold last night from a telemarketer. Oh, great. Six minutes. I spent six minutes. What was time? Oh, look, it was definitely procrastination for me. It was about, um, 8:00 PM, seven 30, 7:30 PM. I would say I got the call and it was a mobile number.
They were trying to, uh, get me to buy crypto currency.
Jess Lucas: [00:03:12] Wow. You've already got that.
Josh Janssen: [00:03:14] No, I don't. I don't have any crypto. Um, but like I could get around
Jess Lucas: [00:03:18] it, but. Really nearby now, I thought you would have been early adopters.
Josh Janssen: [00:03:22] Do you think I'd be doing this? If I was I would
Tommy Jackett: [00:03:27] be coins going back up. If anyone Mason, I thought you would have had almost,
Mason Lauder: [00:03:33] I was very, very close to getting it mum.
Well, cause it was, it's hard to do it when you're under the age of 18. And so I was 17. I was 17 at the time. And so I couldn't actually. Go and get it. So the only way to do it is meeting up with someone in person in the city to do it.
Josh Janssen: [00:03:48] What do you mean with someone?
Mason Lauder: [00:03:51] What they're like, they're like Bitcoin machines and stuff that you can go and do all, you can do it online and transfer it online, but you have to be over 18.
Josh Janssen: [00:03:59] She has this of lucky shop. That is
Tommy Jackett: [00:04:05] the big one. That is one
Mason Lauder: [00:04:06] option. No, but the meeting in person is an actual thing where you're. Going to meet with a person and you've got an account or a wallet, and then you go to them and there's like, like how much, how much, how much are we exchanging? It's also called
Josh Janssen: [00:04:19] dogging.
Isn't it. Then
Mason Lauder: [00:04:22] I
Josh Janssen: [00:04:23] never,
Mason Lauder: [00:04:25] never got around to doing that. So, so that's why I miss out. But it was about, it was about 700 bucks when I wanted to get it. So
Tommy Jackett: [00:04:32] dude, it's so much more now it's like 18 grand. It's gone up. It's huge.
Mason Lauder: [00:04:37] Yeah. It's slightly annoying.
Tommy Jackett: [00:04:39] Anyway. So did you buy Bitcoin, Josh?
Josh Janssen: [00:04:40] No. Where they were asking questions.
I was like, I wonder how long I could, um, sort of keep this convo Darwin just with yes, no answers. And so the only thing he said, Oh, like, um, what appeals to you more private or public? Like if you, you don't have to know anything about crypto, like which one are you drawn to? I said public, you said, yeah, private's bad.
And he told me why. Yeah, privates bad. Um, but anyway, I was just saying how long I could go for to the point where this, I wrote it down because it made me laugh. He said to me, I don't have time for this. And he hung up on me, which I appreciated it. I thought like that's, um, he called me. He's reading his script to me and I was wasting his time.
Tommy Jackett: [00:05:31] Oh God. Yeah. I guess the time is money for them. If they, if they're not closing a deal, are they closing any deals? Sales can be a prick of a job if you're not landing anything. Do you think they're actually getting anything? Yeah.
Josh Janssen: [00:05:45] Also making a sale where it got heated was he said, um, they be in a car park.
No, he said, you can Google it. You can Google all of this. And I said, do you work for Google? And he says, no. And then I said, ah, I use Yahoo. Can I use Yahoo? And he says, yes, you can use whichever ever one you want. That's fine. Um, and that, I said, like, what's, what's the benefits of using Google though? And he's just like, stop talking about Yahoo and Google.
I said you brought it up Google. I didn't, it was just, I was really, I was wasting time, but it was fun. It was only six minutes.
Jess Lucas: [00:06:38] Yeah.
Josh Janssen: [00:06:38] Brie was just like, what's that guy yelling at you? I was like, yeah. Yeah. He's like, didn't he call you? I was like, yeah. Yeah. So
Tommy Jackett: [00:06:47] how did he open it? Did he know your name and everything?
Josh Janssen: [00:06:49] Yeah, yeah. Yeah. So Josh, and then at one point he said, John, just call me John. He said, no. I said, Josh was like the mace. Nice all over again. So that was the most exciting thing. Uh, that happened to me last night.
Tommy Jackett: [00:07:07] Well, my it's, um, I think all of these things are happening is, does that feel more normal? Like you getting many of these, like, I feel like when it was just all back in the day, I was just fucking calls all the time from marketers or is this a new
Josh Janssen: [00:07:22] thing?
As I turned off, I had the, um, if it's a number that I don't have in my phone, go straight to voicemail and at some point, for some reason, I must've been waiting for a call from someone and I've turned that off. And so now I'm just like, I get too much anxiety around if I don't answer and they don't leave a voicemail.
I'm like, well, who the fuck was that? I stress about my, who could it be, could be important. Should I call back? And so speaking of
Tommy Jackett: [00:07:52] voicemails, GSI called your phone probably two months ago and the voicemail. Sounded like you were about 16 and you and your girls were, you know, a bit late on some breezes, Bacardi, breezes, and you're all yelling.
Hi, welcome. Whatever. I can't even remember what it sounded like because it's since changed.
Josh Janssen: [00:08:14] Can you
Jess Lucas: [00:08:15] reveal to us? Actually, I remember he's got a copy of it.
Josh Janssen: [00:08:20] Oh good. Cause that was even your, um, work number forwarded to your phone. And so that's why it's not good. It's not good for the brand.
Tommy Jackett: [00:08:32] Remember recording.
Do you remember recording it?
Jess Lucas: [00:08:34] Yeah, it was this year.
Josh Janssen: [00:08:38] What was the point?
Jess Lucas: [00:08:40] Um, I can't remember. It was, it was that's my, uh, my sister and I, and we were, I think I was literally at work and it was, yeah, I dunno. We'll just stuffing around. I can't even remember how it happened. And I w it was like going to be two seconds and then I thought I deleted it and I thought I had nothing.
That apparently I've had it on for months and
Tommy Jackett: [00:09:01] it's fuck edge, do a risky voice. Like you could have just recorded that into voice memos, but you decided now let's record it into the actual voicemail and then maybe we'll delete it.
Josh Janssen: [00:09:14] Yeah.
Jess Lucas: [00:09:15] I mean, I'm not funny if you heard it, you'd be like this. Girl's all.
Tommy Jackett: [00:09:18] No, it's kind of cute. It's like, ah, it's fun, but yeah, probably not for work.
Mason Lauder: [00:09:24] Nice. I'm not a voicemail guy.
Josh Janssen: [00:09:26] Push back on that. I can imagine why voicemail. Ah, don't
Mason Lauder: [00:09:29] need it. What's the point
Josh Janssen: [00:09:30] we've done. Answer your phone. So voicemail would be nice.
Tommy Jackett: [00:09:33] Okay. What about what what's
Jess Lucas: [00:09:37] worse?
Josh Janssen: [00:09:39] What's worse.
Tommy Jackett: [00:09:40] What's worse.
Uh, this voicemail. Hi, you've called Tommy. Uh, I don't check my voicemail. So don't bother leaving one. Um, send me a text if you need, or Bududa just nothing like which one that was saying that you don't check it and you find it don't
Josh Janssen: [00:09:57] check it
Tommy Jackett: [00:09:58] really. Y
Josh Janssen: [00:10:00] Y I think it just it's. Um, I don't know, like, it's just, it's just easier because it's stating, because they they've actually said they've given me a message.
So they're saying, Hey, don't leave me a message. So there's a, there's a next steps. So I feel like if I don't write back, if I don't do something like it's my job as the Cola. To then do something. Whereas I think, um, the voicemail stuff, sometimes you're not sure are they going to hear it? Are they not going to hear it?
Are they going to respond?
Jess Lucas: [00:10:35] If you going to do that? Wouldn't you just not have a voicemail?
Tommy Jackett: [00:10:39] Yeah. Like,
Josh Janssen: [00:10:40] can you actually not have a voicemail,
Mason Lauder: [00:10:42] but I don't have a voicemail call me. I don't have one.
Tommy Jackett: [00:10:45] What is it? You haven't answered your phone. Like it
Josh Janssen: [00:10:49] has, it would have someone from the telco saying,
Tommy Jackett: [00:10:52] hi, you've called
Josh Janssen: [00:10:53] zero, blah, blah, blah.
Like your number or whatever,
Tommy Jackett: [00:10:56] maybe. Yeah. Dunno. Should we call saves and seat?
Josh Janssen: [00:11:00] Well, it will say he's number out. If it is we'll put away, then I was thinking, huh,
Tommy Jackett: [00:11:04] don't worry. He won't answer the calls. Even if he
Josh Janssen: [00:11:06] gets, um, service, uh, went out to dinner last night.
Mason Lauder: [00:11:13] Yeah. Yeah, it was lovely. We went to, um, a place in queue.
Um,
Josh Janssen: [00:11:18] Oh,
Mason Lauder: [00:11:21] it was actually right near the, um, cemetery. Uh, Josh thought we should catch up. Yeah. Yeah.
Tommy Jackett: [00:11:28] Sorry, just side note. It's sad. Your Jim's gone.
Mason Lauder: [00:11:32] Uh, yeah, under, under reconstruction. Apparently it's going to take a couple of years, but they built out a whole new, um, A whole new thing. A couple million dollar
Josh Janssen: [00:11:40] quit the gym for a couple of years.
Tommy Jackett: [00:11:42] No worries. Yeah. Yeah.
Mason Lauder: [00:11:44] Um, annoying though. No sauna at the other gym.
Josh Janssen: [00:11:48] So they've given you like a replacement gym to use in the
Mason Lauder: [00:11:50] meantime, part of like a full group. It's like why YMCA? And they've got three, three, four gyms in a region and they've shutdown one. So they've got
Josh Janssen: [00:11:59] three left. So you went to dinner, tell us
Mason Lauder: [00:12:02] this.
They went to dinner. Um, Very very sweet. Um, one of Grace's mates, grasses talking to her on the phone before we left, it probably would have been 20 minutes before we got there maybe 30 minutes and we walk in and we sit down, we scan ourselves in and then the bloke, the waiter comes over and he's holding a bottle of wine.
And he's like, this is, this is, this is from Emma. And he goes in, pause it. And he gives us a drink. And so grace has made, um, yeah, got a drink for us, which is super, super lovely. It was so amazing. And we were rattled
Tommy Jackett: [00:12:42] nice because all I'm thinking, are you thinking I don't drink wine?
Mason Lauder: [00:12:49] I think, I think it was per Seco.
I think it was per second. Oh fuck.
Tommy Jackett: [00:12:53] Okay. No, no, no. I can imagine you getting around that.
Mason Lauder: [00:12:56] Yeah. It's yeah. That's all right.
Josh Janssen: [00:12:58] And so what's quite,
Mason Lauder: [00:13:00] it's got a strong flavor.
Josh Janssen: [00:13:02] Was it a seamless interaction?
Mason Lauder: [00:13:04] Yeah, it was very shameless. Yeah. Yeah. Hey, it was, I think the whole, the whole experience was pretty good.
Like I reckon. Cause so the weird thing, it's a no menus. You've got it on your phone. So you scan the QR code and you're going through the phone where you
Josh Janssen: [00:13:16] at McDonald's
Mason Lauder: [00:13:18] no create, create your,
Josh Janssen: [00:13:19] create your taste. Yeah. Um,
Mason Lauder: [00:13:24] Yeah. So we, we did that. Um,
Tommy Jackett: [00:13:26] and
Mason Lauder: [00:13:26] then, uh, I also got a gin and grace got a Aperol spritz, and, uh, we had some arancini balls, zucchini flowers, and just like a pastor and beef.
It was lovely. But the, yeah, the funny bit was because it was never, I mean, we've gone out once when we were in Blake area, but we. We've completely in our relationship. Missed out on the first date, the second date and the third date. And so what we did, like on the way home, it was sort of just like, what would have you done if this was the first day, do you want to come in
Tommy Jackett: [00:14:02] or do you want to stay?
Mason Lauder: [00:14:04] So we react to that whole thing in the car, outside the house. It was the first day, like, would you kiss on the cheek? Would you kiss like, wha what's
Josh Janssen: [00:14:13] what's happening?
Did you do it that
Mason Lauder: [00:14:19] the
Josh Janssen: [00:14:21] second night?
Mason Lauder: [00:14:23] It was, it was very cute. Cause we reenacted that and then yeah, it was very cute.
Tommy Jackett: [00:14:28] Yeah. Yeah. Cut to 10 minutes later. You're fine.
Josh Janssen: [00:14:35] And so any other, any other COVID tips? Like do people have their masks until they sit down or what's the, what's the deal.
Mason Lauder: [00:14:43] Yeah. So yeah, masks on until you sit down and take it off. And we just, the whole time, like, as soon as we sat down, even though we hadn't had food, yet we had our masks off all the, um,
Josh Janssen: [00:14:55] where do you keep your mask?
Mason Lauder: [00:14:57] Just in Grace's handbag person. Well, you can just put it in your pocket, whatever you want,
Josh Janssen: [00:15:02] but yeah,
Mason Lauder: [00:15:02] don't put it on the table. It's a bit, but a couple of people were like, they were wearing them whilst they, like, they took it off to eight and then put it back on. Um, but like when, when I got up to go to the toilet, I went and put her on.
Cause you're walking past like the kitchen and stuff.
Josh Janssen: [00:15:16] Yeah,
Tommy Jackett: [00:15:19] no,
Mason Lauder: [00:15:19] it looks less stressful.
Josh Janssen: [00:15:21] It looks
Tommy Jackett: [00:15:22] already loose out there. Okay. I see you're seeing tallies. I mean, this is the theme of tallies, Instagram seeing chapel straight, just like the amount of people sitting at tables and no one, no one needs to, I asked that same question.
Do you need to wear it while you're sitting there? And the answer is no people, all the, all the staff have to wear them. So,
Mason Lauder: [00:15:45] yeah. Yeah.
Josh Janssen: [00:15:46] It's just saving crazy having the, um, the brewery next door. With people and just not like you hearing, I hear about it's very fine.
Tommy Jackett: [00:15:57] Well, um, Jess, uh, you've got a bit of a big weekend planned haven't you met?
Jess Lucas: [00:16:03] Yes, but technically I haven't planned it yet, but it's happening at some point? Um, have a date.
Josh Janssen: [00:16:10] Okay, cute. Do you want the random? Yeah, yeah. Yes. So
Jess Lucas: [00:16:16] I said to him, I said to him, Maybe this is a guy that I was telling you about Josh, the Jordan Jackson guy.
Josh Janssen: [00:16:24] Um,
Jess Lucas: [00:16:26] and yeah, so I said to him, I'm really bad at this.
Can we pick this up when. Uh, we opened up again because I did not want to go on a walking day. Um, and I knew it was going to happen sooner rather than later. So was like, let's just leave it
really good at conversation here. Um, and, and then he messaged me yesterday was like, do you want to, Hey, just what's, what's the goal. Do you want to go grab a drink this weekend and sorry,
Josh Janssen: [00:16:57] that's what you're going to do. So what's the, what's the, um, What's the deal. Can you even just get into bars or are they yeah, what's the deal?
Oh, I don't know.
Jess Lucas: [00:17:06] That's a good point. Surely to people, or we could just do an average rank because I've got plants that might not anyway. So yeah,
Josh Janssen: [00:17:12] the thing is that plant the, you have to be so planned nowadays. Cause everyone's thinking the same thing. They're like, Oh yeah, like we'll just do it in the afternoon.
Like everyone's wanting to go out and about right. Or like the majority of people outside of me. So
do
Jess Lucas: [00:17:28] I book a place and risk him? Like, imagine if he canceled on me and I had to pay his fine for not pay because don't, you need to put a deposit down on these.
Josh Janssen: [00:17:39] Yeah,
Mason Lauder: [00:17:40] sure. Just bring someone else though.
Just bring it mate. Could you,
Josh Janssen: [00:17:44] do you think you could find him as that
Tommy Jackett: [00:17:45] gender replacement?
Jess Lucas: [00:17:47] Yeah, I know I could, but it's, you know, it defeats the purpose. Yeah.
Tommy Jackett: [00:17:51] Is it hang on. Can we put some ownership on him? What's it. What's his deal? Can I pay
Jess Lucas: [00:17:55] the guy that he can, he can book it. Actually,
Tommy Jackett: [00:17:57] I got this,
Josh Janssen: [00:17:58] I've got this,
Jess Lucas: [00:17:59] I'll put that back on him.
Is there any suggestions?
Josh Janssen: [00:18:05] Um,
Tommy Jackett: [00:18:06] yeah, sure. Should we book? She'll be, yeah. Should we book something
Mason Lauder: [00:18:13] suggestions or how to word
Josh Janssen: [00:18:15] that location? Yeah, sure. Um, yeah, I think, uh, I mean you like bars don't you.
Jess Lucas: [00:18:24] Yeah. Oh
Josh Janssen: [00:18:26] yeah. I can't help you.
Tommy Jackett: [00:18:27] Okay. We'll just do, but can you put me in by now?
Mason Lauder: [00:18:30] Like you're not standing at a bar now. You
Tommy Jackett: [00:18:33] that's not
Jess Lucas: [00:18:35] hubs kind of thing. I think
Mason Lauder: [00:18:36] not
Jess Lucas: [00:18:37] sure. What do you mean by bar Josh?
Josh Janssen: [00:18:40] No idea.
What is about right. If people go to a bar, what does that mean?
Jess Lucas: [00:18:50] I, if, if someone said that to me, do you want to go down to the bar? I'd just assume like a pub or whatever, but I would not
say
Josh Janssen: [00:18:56] that. Is that what you're
Mason Lauder: [00:18:57] is that what I read you? West thing?
Jess Lucas: [00:19:00] Yeah, maybe we just say, do you want to go grab a drink?
Where do you want to go? And we'd be like, Oh man, Erica Earl Wolf and I, whatever it is.
Tommy Jackett: [00:19:07] Well, the bar is where you get the drink and yeah, from that's like where they serve from. So,
Josh Janssen: [00:19:13] but Mason, some of them impression that you stand at the bar is that happening. People stand at the bar.
Mason Lauder: [00:19:19] Not, maybe not drink over it, but surely people stay.
Josh Janssen: [00:19:21] Yeah.
Tommy Jackett: [00:19:22] I love standing at the baths. Fucking awesome.
Josh Janssen: [00:19:24] And so w so you, TJ, when you're standing at the bar, are you at a bar or you're at a pub pub? You're at a POV pub that has about a par
Mason Lauder: [00:19:34] you're at a par
Josh Janssen: [00:19:35] you ready? Yeah.
Tommy Jackett: [00:19:36] Yeah. Unless you're at blue bath on chapel street and you're at the bar. I've sat in the bar at blue bar.
So technically I'm at, at the bar.
Jess Lucas: [00:19:44] I love blue bar. But you only ever go there.
Josh Janssen: [00:19:49] They're like, what is what's what's the deal with blue bar?
Tommy Jackett: [00:19:54] It's just a loose units. Venue. Gangster, go to, what about going to, I've got a place for you, the Mount Erika Mount Erika hotel.
Jess Lucas: [00:20:03] Literally just said that
Tommy Jackett: [00:20:04] before. Yeah. Yeah.
But that's not, that's got a big outdoor area. Like if, yeah, I think, yeah,
Jess Lucas: [00:20:11] that's what I do anyway.
Tommy Jackett: [00:20:15] Yeah.
Josh Janssen: [00:20:16] What about, would you potentially just go to a park? Do you think there's going to be a big sort of push back on parks now that things are opening up?
Jess Lucas: [00:20:23] Um, no, I like, I love daydreaming in a park. I've always loved that.
That's not just a curvy thing, but you always want to be able to go somewhere afterwards to either dance would just have that vibe.
Josh Janssen: [00:20:35] Oh, dance. So you're going to dance this way.
Jess Lucas: [00:20:39] No, I'm not dancing this weekend. I don't think that'll happen for a while.
Tommy Jackett: [00:20:42] Have you ever gone out on a date for a dance? Have you ever gone for dance with somebody?
Oh my God.
Jess Lucas: [00:20:47] Yeah, I got, I was a really bad day. It was a guy that we spoke about last time, the buddy, um, the one that stayed. Oh, is that,
Tommy Jackett: [00:20:55] Oh, you went for dance
Josh Janssen: [00:20:58] documentary that you guys watch the Katy Perry doco the next day, or what was your say, Beyonce?
Jess Lucas: [00:21:06] Yeah. So that night we ended up at that, um, gray styling near your house, Josh and that kind of like they put the music and stuff.
Oh my God.
Josh Janssen: [00:21:17] I don't know anywhere. I know fixation. No, sorry. I
Jess Lucas: [00:21:24] think we could hang on. Hang on
Tommy Jackett: [00:21:26] Josh, because she won't, she won't want to do it ever again.
Josh Janssen: [00:21:30] Um, yeah, I think, um, crawl. So the thing is that, uh, I, I'm not a big guy. I'm just, no, it's
Jess Lucas: [00:21:38] okay. There's other drinks. That's okay.
Josh Janssen: [00:21:41] You get
Mason Lauder: [00:21:41] genetic bar. Is that, is that
Josh Janssen: [00:21:44] what we're talking about?
Going to
Mason Lauder: [00:21:46] a hub? Can you get gin at a pub?
Jess Lucas: [00:21:48] Got a big storm coming, honey. Okay.
Josh Janssen: [00:21:50] Yes. Mason, get the reference. I didn't get it.
Mason Lauder: [00:21:53] All right.
Josh Janssen: [00:21:54] What is it?
Jess Lucas: [00:21:54] Oh my God. There's so much work to do. When you to,
Josh Janssen: [00:21:57] what does that reference? It was a big storm. Okay. Um, anyway, go on.
Jess Lucas: [00:22:05] Okay. We, if, if you're making me step out of my comfort zone to go in front of a crowd and speak or do things in front of people that I don't necessarily want to do, or it doesn't come naturally, you too.
And you're in this Mason, I coming to a pub with me, multiple POVs, we're going on a pub CRO one Saturday, and we are going to have the time of our lives.
Josh Janssen: [00:22:28] What I don't like about it is just the other groups of people. And just people like interacting, like, but you don't interact too.
Jess Lucas: [00:22:39] Well, yeah. If someone comes up and they like, Oh, do you have a lighter?
And you're like, Oh yeah,
Josh Janssen: [00:22:43] yeah.
Jess Lucas: [00:22:45] I have a lot at night. You have to have a lot of,
Josh Janssen: [00:22:48] I bet covering, covering all
Tommy Jackett: [00:22:49] your bases. Josh have a bag of Coke in your pocket. In case someone asks
Josh Janssen: [00:22:53] you
Tommy Jackett: [00:22:54] don't even have it yourself, a lighter,
Josh Janssen: [00:22:56] a bunch of Tupac coins. So if somebody. You want two bags for the pool machine? Um, no, I dunno.
I mean, uh, we'll talking it's a
Jess Lucas: [00:23:07] non-negotiable
Josh Janssen: [00:23:08] yeah, th only consideration is just what we will actually be consuming. Mason was asking a bit, if you can get other drinks outside of wine at a wine bar, because, uh, Brina was, I know we should, we should go to a wine bar. What was that? Yeah, it's a wine bar
Jess Lucas: [00:23:28] when I'm going to a wine bar.
Josh Janssen: [00:23:30] No, but I liked the idea of a wine bar, so I don't know if it's just all, um, optics,
Mason Lauder: [00:23:37] better crowd.
Josh Janssen: [00:23:39] Yeah, just a little bit. What I like about wine bars or turn away? Yeah, I have, I have, I have, I've had a panic attack at a couple, um, uh, more turtlenecks, older crowd, potentially going to the. You know, the Melbourne international film festival or something, it's just chill.
Like there's no, there's no one trying to fucking King hit me on the way out. I don't want to be fucking King. I have no doubt that if I went to a pub, too many pubs, I'd get King here. Seriously. I've just got that vibe. What's that one?
Mason Lauder: [00:24:16] What's that one a st. Kilda that we went to.
Tommy Jackett: [00:24:20] Ah, the SP
Mason Lauder: [00:24:21] yeah. Yes. Meat that's outrageous.
Josh Janssen: [00:24:24] Yeah. Well, we were just on stage and in the green. No, no, no. Before that we went before BMC. That's right. Yeah. You even, um, uh, you started pushing people away and giving brace space or something. What happened on the way out?
Mason Lauder: [00:24:43] Yeah, that was just real, real whack people in there. Just cause you have to walk it's they haven't designed it.
Well, like guys make a path where you don't have to walk through PayPal and just Lucy had to just like, yeah.
Tommy Jackett: [00:24:55] Sorry for the success of the bar. Mason,
Josh Janssen: [00:24:58] it's a
Tommy Jackett: [00:25:00] bloody tall poppy syndrome right there, man. Why are you guys so successful now? I think if there's ever a time, J Jason, now it's now because. It can't be like that.
That was hundreds of people in that venue where you were like sardines, that's not happening, but it's not happening. And so maybe the, the, the pub crawl now, like back in the day, you'd walk into the pubs. You just go from pub to pub, but you wouldn't book. You just be like hashing a dog,
Josh Janssen: [00:25:26] dark with
Jess Lucas: [00:25:30] my leg.
Josh Janssen: [00:25:31] Okay.
Tommy Jackett: [00:25:32] So you can go now and do it. It will be much more time. Like it just won't have the same.
Jess Lucas: [00:25:37] The thing is so JJ, we can't be going to wine bars because you've got to think about the greater good of the group and I need younger people around.
Josh Janssen: [00:25:46] Yeah. So this is the thing. This is, I think, where it all falls over is bigger groups, the greater good of the group.
Everyone wants something different. Everyone wants to. So there's something nice about very small amount of people. And it's just way over, very clear on what we want. Because I just hate the, it just reminds me as like, as a kid where it's like getting late and then there's decisions being made and there's the friction around, what are we going to do next?
Let's go here. Let's do that. I just don't want to deal with any of that. But
Jess Lucas: [00:26:20] as Tommy, um, rightly pointed out, you have to book, so we'll have a clear direction of where we're going. And then the final pub is like, okay, Like JJ is definitely going home at this point. George and Tommy, Jess might go out. Yeah.
Mason's probably going home.
Mason Lauder: [00:26:35] When you go out to
Tommy Jackett: [00:26:38] Mason, you, you stayed out with us for a while. One night. That was quite good. Like, I
Mason Lauder: [00:26:43] felt like the Moondog
Tommy Jackett: [00:26:45] kind of you kind of up for it. It's um, yeah, I know what you're saying, Jeff, there is a, you just rock up and the night takes you. There is a version of relating go, Josh,
Josh Janssen: [00:26:57] stop trying to control the, say that it was, um, there's nothing at all that happens after, like
Jess Lucas: [00:27:03] to that.
You've got a nice clean 12 o'clock when we'll probably get our last booking. And two o'clock where two hours of fun is about to happen.
Josh Janssen: [00:27:12] This sounds like I'm doing shtick, but I'm being dead serious. Um, I've actually been thinking this is very different to the pub stuff, but getting into golf. In a big, like in a big way again.
And Mason, I think that you would love it too. I think there's something nice about, you know, early, early start on the weekend on a Saturday, do nine holes. What do you think?
Mason Lauder: [00:27:38] Yeah, I could get around it. Yeah. I got to learn. We've all got to play.
Josh Janssen: [00:27:43] We both need clubs.
Mason Lauder: [00:27:45] We need to get to buy.
Josh Janssen: [00:27:46] We do we golf clubs.
Yeah. Yeah.
Mason Lauder: [00:27:48] Okay. Packing in baseball or
Josh Janssen: [00:27:52] no, no, no, no, no. We're still doing the baseball stuff and the old,
Mason Lauder: [00:27:56] do we need a bat? Do we need a bat for baseball? Should we get that? There's actually a baseball diamond, uh, at a park near my house, like a proper net and everything.
Tommy Jackett: [00:28:05] Oh yeah. I've seen that one.
Josh Janssen: [00:28:08] Well, I think the thing that we could start with with the golf is like, I'm a driving range.
That would be fun. I think that Jess, would you be up for, so from a team bonding perspective, so rather than, cause the thing is, this is the issue I have with the pub stuff. I can't, I was the guy that didn't drink. I can't go the other way. I can't just be the drinking guy. I just don't want to be sort of that sort of drunk, disgusting every weekend.
Right.
Jess Lucas: [00:28:37] So it's one day, JJ.
Josh Janssen: [00:28:39] Yeah, I know. I get it. I definitely do it, but for something more long-term I like doing something I'm like, Oh, this will be fun. Let's do it again. Like, um, there's bowling. We could, um, like go to strike and we could do all that. That could be fun. It would be fun.
Mason Lauder: [00:28:53] Laser tag.
Josh Janssen: [00:28:54] Yeah.
Laser tag. I get too sweaty.
Tommy Jackett: [00:28:58] I just think can't they just be a version that's less light than it has to be who you are from this moment. Moving forward. Like, just as just saying, let's go to the pub and let's have a little night out. It doesn't have
Josh Janssen: [00:29:09] to be drinking
Tommy Jackett: [00:29:12] or drink. Doesn't have to be, but why does it have to be who you are?
Yeah. Like if you just do it once, why does it have to be who you are?
Josh Janssen: [00:29:20] What do you mean?
Tommy Jackett: [00:29:21] Cause you're saying let's be, I want to be the golf guy. Let's do that.
Josh Janssen: [00:29:25] What is it? Well, no, I just don't like, I've done, I've done these things once. When we went to LA, we did, we did the bar thing. It was great fun.
There's something about traveling when we can travel again. I think that there's an opportunity.
Jess Lucas: [00:29:42] Grace needs to go out. Think of the greater good of the group.
Josh Janssen: [00:29:47] Like, I dunno, it's just
Jess Lucas: [00:29:49] not on the town. Are you going to. Deprive her of that,
Josh Janssen: [00:29:53] like masons, Mason, are you guys do it? Like the thing is that, so it's, it's working out where to go.
Who's getting, so the problem I just have is the people not in our group. It's the other groups. I just can't like even just me going to bed, hearing the, um, Uh, the people in the, in the brewery. Yeah. But like fuck off. Yeah. And so that's what the concern is. That's why we'll get King hit, because I just like, if I, right now with no alcohol, it's like, fuck off.
Yeah. I mean, I got into a punch on at a 21st. Um, and I wasn't even in, but like I, um, I was sitting there. And a guy was like off his chops. I wasn't drinking. And he said, uh, what are you looking at? I'm like, I'm looking at you. So why is so because you're acting like an idiot and, um, he just started punching me and then, uh, I yelled out Daniel who's, um, uh, my kickboxer mate and they forwarded out.
But, um, it's just the thing is that I, I actually like alcohol. I do. But I like it with people that I like. So the thing is the alcohol for me. I like, I feel like it's bringing me close it. Like it's a more reactive state. Right. So if you like everyone, it's all good. If you get, if I got drinking and there were people that I even, if in the back of my mind, if I was like, I actually think there are a bit of a break.
I won't go drinking because I know. Right. I'm going to be honest. You're a bit of a fuckwit. I feel that I just don't. I just can't be. I don't want to be, I just don't want that. I'm not a good guy. Yeah. I'm not a good vibe.
Tommy Jackett: [00:31:51] I'm a good fat.
Josh Janssen: [00:31:54] No, no, I would. I'm not the,
Jess Lucas: [00:31:56] I would have to get in there with big box.
Josh Janssen: [00:31:59] Exactly. Me, me being, thinking about the greater good. I liked the idea. So the one thing that I could get around, so I've always pushed back on music festivals. However, Jess, you have described some music festivals that I can get around, which is like, um, foldable, chit. Yes. Like foldout chairs, um, space potentially even like, um, I could get around, um, yeah, like the zoo.
Does there like music at the zoo?
Mason Lauder: [00:32:38] Yeah. Yeah. Sort of like the, the music Meyer
Josh Janssen: [00:32:40] bowl vibe, Sidney Myer music bowl. No.
Mason Lauder: [00:32:42] Yeah. That one
Josh Janssen: [00:32:43] you don't, you don't like it. No animals at Sydney. My music,
Mason Lauder: [00:32:46] but no, no, no. But that the vibe of just seeing
Josh Janssen: [00:32:49] yeah. Outside stuff, I wouldn't so red, hot chili peppers there,
Tommy Jackett: [00:32:54] um,
Josh Janssen: [00:32:54] Rochford
Tommy Jackett: [00:32:55] winery.
They do, they do some, they do some.
Yeah. Yeah. Well, they do the, you can take the chairs and sit it's exactly what you're talking about. Bring your own, bring your little bit of your own alcohol
Josh Janssen: [00:33:09] craziest shit I do at the Yarra Valley is go to the chocolate factory and then fucking take the piss out of the, um, the spoon full of chocolate that you get.
Let's keep fucking going around. I'm like, yeah, come on. Tell me off your pre come on. Really shit myself with the amount of chocolate that I ate there. Um,
Jess Lucas: [00:33:27] I have one final pitch for you guys.
Josh Janssen: [00:33:29] Okay.
Mason Lauder: [00:33:30] Okay, here we go.
Jess Lucas: [00:33:31] Mercy for you, Josh.
Josh Janssen: [00:33:32] Okay.
Jess Lucas: [00:33:33] What about instead of a pub crawl? We do a winery tour and we get a bus and then we go around to different wineries.
Josh Janssen: [00:33:40] Yeah. Yeah. I can get around that. Yeah, I think cause when I think about wineries, I think more space. So, what I like about it is we can go yeah, totally mad.
Mason Lauder: [00:33:50] Betty kraut. Like they're just more, more reliable, more
Tommy Jackett: [00:33:54] key.
Mason Lauder: [00:33:54] You're not going to get King hit at a winery yet.
Josh Janssen: [00:33:56] Okay. Can I quote Josh, George, what's happening to you too.
Now? Definitely. The vineyard thing I could definitely get around. I've told the story before, but, uh, Holden gave Brie and I a car and then booked us all of these vineyards, which was quite irresponsible. Um, yeah, that's the end of that story. Thanks
Jess Lucas: [00:34:20] for that. That was really, anyway. We'll, we'll buy you a muzzle if we do eventually do it and you'll be on a tight leash that day.
Josh Janssen: [00:34:30] I don't know. I don't think TJ, do you think I would say something, maybe I'm being hyperbolic,
Tommy Jackett: [00:34:36] pushing
Josh Janssen: [00:34:36] a beach. You I'll tell you all this I'd be like that a fucking idiot, but I would get loudest.
Jess Lucas: [00:34:44] Don't do it loud enough that they can hear the beginning in any fights for you, JJ.
Josh Janssen: [00:34:50] I just, even the COVID thing, like being out and about if someone's not being COVID responsible, I can't help myself.
Yeah. Yeah the day. Oh, there's a super spreader just to get walking.
Tommy Jackett: [00:35:09] Oh, I just want to, how about we just do it and I'll film it and I'll just, it's just regretting her decisions and Josh, you
Jess Lucas: [00:35:18] don't see me reeling.
Josh Janssen: [00:35:20] The thing is this way better people for pumps and stuff, Jess. Like the thing I'm interested in trivia potentially.
Jess Lucas: [00:35:27] Now how'd you,
Josh Janssen: [00:35:30] what do you hate about trivia?
It's just
Jess Lucas: [00:35:33] boring.
Josh Janssen: [00:35:34] Really?
Tommy Jackett: [00:35:35] The name of it,
Jess Lucas: [00:35:36] the game. I'm not very good at it.
Mason Lauder: [00:35:39] And is that just because they're shit questions?
Jess Lucas: [00:35:42] Yeah. Obviously it's not my fault. Uh, but yeah, natural bees not great.
Josh Janssen: [00:35:48] Okay.
Jess Lucas: [00:35:49] Generally on a Wednesday or Thursday night. So.
Tommy Jackett: [00:35:53] All right, seeing easy hate trivia. So much to finish self this episode, I'm going to give you three trivia questions.
You're ready for them. Jess, who discovered penicillin.
Jess Lucas: [00:36:04] Have no fucking idea.
Josh Janssen: [00:36:06] I'm sorry, doctor.
Tommy Jackett: [00:36:07] That's the wrong answer
Jess Lucas: [00:36:13] because someone called penny, penny,
Tommy Jackett: [00:36:15] are you, are you looking it up? She's she's Googled. Okay, good. Now it wasn't. It was Alexander Fleming. Fuck. .
Jess Lucas: [00:36:24] My sister has told me that this year.
Tommy Jackett: [00:36:26] Okay, this is one. This is food relating. Now
Josh Janssen: [00:36:28] can you tell us a bit, one more thing about Fleming quickly, TJ?
Tommy Jackett: [00:36:31] I didn't, it just literally had the answer.
That was it. Um, dishes. What is the common name for dried plum? Oh, this is good.
Josh Janssen: [00:36:39] It's not salt honors.
Tommy Jackett: [00:36:42] You may have been
Josh Janssen: [00:36:45] prune.
Tommy Jackett: [00:36:47] Yes. Hold on. Yes.
All right. This is one. This is for the well-traveled guy. You might, you might get this JJ
Josh Janssen: [00:37:01] capita kind of out. Sorry.
Tommy Jackett: [00:37:04] Oh, here we go. Josh. Josh, this is you will get this. What is the national dish in Spain?
Jess Lucas: [00:37:11] Paella.
Tommy Jackett: [00:37:12] Gosh, she's got,
Josh Janssen: [00:37:14] uh, hang on. No, I actually got it wrong. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. He's taking it. He's just taking it.
One of my favorite things from Spain, they do a angry potato. Oh. Is it hot?
Tommy Jackett: [00:37:30] Yeah. Like this like
Josh Janssen: [00:37:31] spicy, like almost like Chipola you sort of
Tommy Jackett: [00:37:34] know Josh is not an angry potato it's. Um, fuck. Amy's favorite FA it's her favorite dish. I know exactly what you mean.
Josh Janssen: [00:37:42] Maybe
Tommy Jackett: [00:37:44] that's what you mean. It sounds it'd be cold Western.
Josh Janssen: [00:37:48] No. Sorry. That's the fucking that's angry. Potato is the translation. Wow.
Tommy Jackett: [00:37:56] Spain. It really dumbed it down. We used
Mason Lauder: [00:37:58] to go out pissed off potatoes and
Tommy Jackett: [00:38:00] no, no,
Josh Janssen: [00:38:01] let's just another note.
Tommy Jackett: [00:38:02] Annoying potatoes. Yes, yes. Yes. Tell us brothers, can you,
Josh Janssen: [00:38:10] um, translate that forest mace?
Mason Lauder: [00:38:13] Uh, do you want the actual yes. You Google translate one.
Tommy Jackett: [00:38:18] Which, what does that do? It, it changes patatas bravas to whatever,
Josh Janssen: [00:38:21] whatever the angle.
Tommy Jackett: [00:38:23] Yes. Why she might be these just
Josh Janssen: [00:38:25] spicy Botana
Mason Lauder: [00:38:26] spicy potatoes. Yeah.
Josh Janssen: [00:38:27] Interesting. Yeah. Um,
Mason Lauder: [00:38:30] this is on simply recipe, simply recipes. It says or angry potatoes.
Tommy Jackett: [00:38:35] So how good are they are?
Josh Janssen: [00:38:37] What does everyone think about? Tappas.
No, I
Jess Lucas: [00:38:40] don't like sharing.
Josh Janssen: [00:38:43] I can get around that. Yeah,
Jess Lucas: [00:38:47] I'll eat it.
Josh Janssen: [00:38:47] The thing that upsets me the most is when, uh, you go out to a restaurant and someone will say, ah, let's just share because I'm not that hungry. And then I'm thinking, well, I
Mason Lauder: [00:39:02] am.
Josh Janssen: [00:39:02] Yeah, exactly. Hang on. You're going to, even if you take 1% of whatever's on this dish, It's too much.
This is like the perfect, the, the chef has perfectly worked out how much food I need on a plate. It's designed that way. And so let's not, let's not confuse things because then I'm going to be walking away.
Tommy Jackett: [00:39:25] You would have absolutely hated this. Josh, where you went out for dinner. When I first met Amy with some of her close friends, she doesn't really say that now may have been because of this.
Uh, but we got there. And we waited maybe 40 minutes for them or 30 minutes for them. We had a couple of cocktails. It was nice. Cause I mean, I was still getting to know each other and
Josh Janssen: [00:39:45] we will
Tommy Jackett: [00:39:48] get some steaks and like just have a real good meal. They got there, they had pre eaten.
Josh Janssen: [00:39:54] Oh no,
Tommy Jackett: [00:39:55] they'd fucking pre eaten.
Josh Janssen: [00:39:57] That's not good. Is that?
Tommy Jackett: [00:39:58] And they're like, and I was just, I kind of didn't. I was like,
Josh Janssen: [00:40:00] what the
Tommy Jackett: [00:40:01] fuck? You had a steak before you came, maybe they were twice
Josh Janssen: [00:40:05] Asia state they'd eat the thing that, that you went to the.
Tommy Jackett: [00:40:08] Restaurant for well it's yeah. It's what you can get at this place. It's good. It
Josh Janssen: [00:40:12] was good.
Jess Lucas: [00:40:13] It's sort of like a steak at
Josh Janssen: [00:40:15] home. Yeah, no, they
Tommy Jackett: [00:40:16] literally cooked before. No, they cooked a fucking steak before they got there
Josh Janssen: [00:40:19] too. They went, they were going to a steak restaurant.
Tommy Jackett: [00:40:22] It wasn't a snake. It was, it was, it wasn't a steak was what I was
Josh Janssen: [00:40:26] told. Spreads are good.
Tommy Jackett: [00:40:28] Let's
Jess Lucas: [00:40:28] be honest.
Tommy Jackett: [00:40:30] Seriously though. I ate before.
It's the classic like. W we'll just get something really small and
Mason Lauder: [00:40:36] they get us the ultimate back. You just then buying a steak.
Tommy Jackett: [00:40:40] No, the ultimate, which is just not
Mason Lauder: [00:40:42] do that.
Tommy Jackett: [00:40:43] Now I fight. I hate yeah. Flipping the tables. Yeah.
Josh Janssen: [00:40:50] So they said, ah, Hey, you got like, so it was for dinner. What time of day? That was it.
Tommy Jackett: [00:40:54] It's dinner time. We had a dinner booking like seven 30 and they, and they they're late and then they've eaten and it's all analysts
Josh Janssen: [00:41:01] is really kind of, so what were they hoping for?
Tommy Jackett: [00:41:04] I have no idea. I should know, maybe just to come, but it seems would, would you be annoyed if you had made dinner plans with somebody and they rocked up and they'd eaten
Josh Janssen: [00:41:17] Mason would definitely do that.
I'd have a little
Mason Lauder: [00:41:21] not, but I, I finish every, like, when are you at a restaurant? I finish everything.
Josh Janssen: [00:41:25] No, but I just feel like you'll definitely be the, like, I just, I felt sorry for, for grace in the early days where it's like, all right, I've had breakfast. Oh, grace, did you want something for breakfast?
Tommy Jackett: [00:41:38] We're all learning the young man's learning.
Josh Janssen: [00:41:41] Yeah. And look at him now going to restaurants. Oh, it's
