It's the daily Talk Show Episode 556 what's happening guys? Christmas? Yeah, I
0:13
mean by popular demand in the middle with it's what we want some
0:19
Yeah, it's Rick off. You dad got a memo from the chairman Rick. Chairman Rick
0:27
Evans, Daddy's the chairman. Yeah,
0:28
we can do chairman and so Chairman Rick is. What's for dinner just a bit of just cooking with my the executive
0:35
decision that we want young Mr. Nice seven to be on camera. And now he's here. Yeah. So this is the decision decision we've made. But this is really a President's meeting. Because as we worked out earlier in the week that we've we've created three clubs which will seize into the new year. And so this is the sort of sit down where the President's get together To formalise some of the plans moving into the new year workout,
1:04
what we all hate admin, but it's a good time to do it just before Christmas.
1:10
Definitely. And so it'd be the only homework since I've
1:13
got a few life hacks.
1:15
So, yeah, I think that's the first What were you gonna say?
1:19
Yeah, I mean, it's all just judging because we haven't made any sort of solidified plan yet how this runs out? I think you
1:25
sort of it's a bit of the cart before the horse.
1:27
Yeah. So for so if you don't know the the three clubs that we've got are
1:32
for the premiere, right. President of the book club,
1:36
president of the life hack club,
1:39
might be more soul than a
1:41
life hack a life hack or life hack. It's your clubs. Yeah. What is it? You're the president
1:46
life hack club, life hack club. Okay, and I'm the president of the adventure club. And said today, I want to reveal the first adventure that I want to take some of the gronk squad on you to gronk or gronk and also Other people from the gronk community right? So I'll get to that. But Josh, what are you going to outline today? We're doing this is like the
2:08
Yeah, sure the formalities or whatever it looks I'm going to talk about, I guess the main key areas is guests for 2020. And how that looks around the, the books that were reading. So I really want to create some alignment around guests and books. Okay, there's two parts or two elements to this one is guests who have written books, aka authors. I want to make sure that we're having them represented. I want to build relationships with all of the big publishers, your hatchets, your penguins, your Wiley's. I want to be across them. I want to be on their email list. I want to be engaged with them on a regular basis. I'd love to have potentially sit down chats with them on a quarterly basis saying who have you got coming up? Okay, who do we need to focus on and so that is one element of the guests. The book club, the book club with the guests. The second element is guests recommending books that they would like to see on the book club. So this doesn't mean that they need to have written the books. But they could suggest at the end of an of a chat. I'll just ask any books of the book club.
3:19
Is that the only avenue for recommendations to be decided
3:24
wearing the
3:26
badge? just pointing out the obvious, actually, like a book club to me is reading a book and then discussing book is that correct? Is that how book club club works? I've never been a part of 97 I think so. So you do like a could assume in the new year. You release the first book?
3:47
Yeah, the novel written by me.
3:48
No, no, you're released the first title of the book that will be discussed within your book.
3:55
La McClellan just sent a DM she had a recommendation of what the book should be. Okay What is the boy who's boy swallows universe?
4:03
always follows universe child's
4:04
book oh no no no I don't sound like that doesn't like the day my mom went psycho but no
4:11
my mom went psycho yeah great book. Oh definitely do not open this.
4:15
Yes also a great book no set your boy swallows Universe by an author named Trent and Doulton. Yeah so on a book club that I nearly sort of was a part of, I bought the book that was the book
4:31
and this is very good it
4:33
Bri ended up re gifting it because it easy in the area of that I'm not that comfortable in which is made up stories. I
4:42
wish I could show like it within the book club of doing it's like Sammy Kev used to say what what was that? those comments not listeners? Yeah, at that same those presentations is the story about him. You know, pick up a golf magazine at the airport, get some stimulus from external things that you wouldn't normally getting paid by Bauer media.
5:05
Magazine. But so what would it be like a golf like, blog? Sam, what?
5:12
But the point being without specifically looking at golf, reading something that isn't an area you would like necessarily to sort of expand or like,
5:23
he's out of a know what about faith? What about if I did all the big books? The Bible? Yeah, the Bible, the Quran, the Torah.
5:34
I mean,
5:37
mother Sam Harris, he's, he's read those books.
5:40
Jordan Peterson would probably definitely
5:43
so do my show. But my point like I'm he's extensively studied the Bible. She knows she
5:52
had read
5:53
Yeah, and don't like fiction.
5:58
But I think start small A book at some point pick it. And then it needs to sort of be the the get together I think of and discussing the book.
6:09
Yeah. And so yeah, and so yeah, that's the main elements but if we can get more to my admin in a sec, not he said, wasn't it nice It was so I sort of set up the guest thing but I don't want to just sort of do all book club and then not have time for adventure club or life hack club. So life hack club, what are you actually thinking?
6:28
Well, I'm just I'm still trying to figure out what the not made up. But what the congregation of the club is, like, easy is it? A group check is it's a bit weird in person book club. I get in person. You could do that in person. Yeah. Well, it's like, oh, how did you go with your life hack this week? Like it's a bit What about
6:49
you? Why do you have you leading it?
6:52
Like, yeah, I know. But that's you're getting everybody okay. He's one. I could I could have been giving the glimmer.
6:58
Don't give it to him. So what are you talking WhatsApp coach it out of him?
7:03
Yeah. What's the what's the challenge is what what
7:06
is the block like where? What do you think a club is? And what do you think that element involved consists of?
7:15
Well, I'm in a clubs, you've got, like a physical meeting place and then you sit down and you discuss or talk about how you went all the book or? Yeah, I just I just feel like a book club. Yeah. You go meet each other and play again. Okay, watching. Doing the adventure together.
7:36
Yeah. So what you're having issues with is
7:40
what about exchanging of life
7:42
hacks? Yeah. I think you have a whole Reddit. Yeah. This is a great Reddit code. Life Hacks. But then unethical life hacks a great
7:52
what would an example of an unethical life hack?
7:56
I don't know probably taking food off a baby for free. You
8:03
know, I just thought it was a good life hack but
8:04
you know, that's what I'm a baby I would say probably like a toddler. Yeah, babies can eight months. Yeah, essentially stealing someone's milk. Yeah.
8:14
Yeah, I think the get you getting together. I just want to see you in front of a bunch of people trying to mumble your way through a fucking presentation about a whole lot. To me that satisfied So to me,
8:29
so be fun. I think like a life it would be good to have at least one of them at the office. Yeah, we want to use the office mom whiteboard. Hopefully we'll have a barbecue that by that time a video projector. Yeah, that'd be good. TV probably. And so from a
8:44
is that is that the not conclusion of the club? How long are you planning on keeping your club going for? I
8:49
think 1220 Yeah. 2020 place. Yes, I guess
8:53
maybe you could do it. With with a life hack. You could do like a round out of golden crown. Life Hacks in
9:00
December next year. Yeah. I think you're thinking way too far ahead. You need to work out what's January. What's January one to?
9:10
Yeah. Remember you can like a meetup club could be something you don't actually have much on. You just got a few hacks that you want to talk to people about people who are interested. Is it on my meetup.com I think we have a platform already there. It's getting the gronk squad coming to the office to go
9:29
to people know what date and stuff you can do you have a blog updated
9:37
and we don't want to throw on the
9:40
other thing about removing blog from the menu on our website on our website. So definitely no club blog. Yeah. Because it's mainly about this. So my dad's part of a Car Club The the American Muscle Car Club Aki the amount of drive Mama that's been going on with the club. So dad, so my Auntie's partner, he's in the club. And they've he's looking after merchandise. And they've currently got four and a half thousand dollars of old merchandise that they haven't sold. Richie dad wants hoodies. Race is saying may we've got four and a half thousand dollars with a stock. There is no way that we're getting the hoodies. And so there was a big argument around that as apparently this supply they're using is a bit slower and doesn't have hoodies on their options. And that's another friction point. And so I was trying to coach that because they were getting very heated about the whole thing. Just because I was saying so the that often speaking out of school,
10:51
it's pretty low level sounds like it's important to them. The President
10:55
and the treasurer, I'm a husband and wife. They Have inside job. Yeah. So they've got the vote, they've got like a lot of, they've got a lot of voting power. And they're very sort of hard headed. And so race doesn't feel comfortable that he's going to be able to get a new supplier across the line. And so the thing is what I was coaching race on, was race was saying, you know, they don't care, like, all they care about is this excess stock. And you know, they don't care. This can be quality and all that sort of thing. And this one, I said to race and that race, is the supplier that you currently using giving the best deal financially. He said, No, I said, Okay, so you dealing with the treasurer, the treasure is her job, her duty is to make sure she's getting the best value for the club. And so it doesn't matter if you've been using one supplier for 10 years. Build a case, get three quotes and say, Look, I don't care about quality. Let's ignore the fact that Richard wants a hoodie. Watch. What are that because I think They will be into the college jackets.
12:03
Yeah they called
12:04
and said they've got like three different styles of college jackets with the old logos which they're not moving stock anymore. And so I was I was so I was saying if you build a case to the treasurer specifically around finance if they cop block that it feels like you got a good case to say hang on is this nepotism is it supply you just using the supply because you like him? Because we just want hoodies it's an inside job. Yeah,
12:31
potentially.
12:32
But it did say having the conversation with dad and race. It feels 12
12:39
so I think missing it says there is a reality that you could just start something put on a little event not have too many answers. And then just like have three life hacks that you want to get through and you want to discuss have an open discussion can go for 45 minutes sure will be filmed because show you with Front Row. But then it says this is the chair of the talks.
13:05
Yeah, I could get the tux done about 45 minutes. Now this is you just facilitating what would actually be packed in
13:14
45 minutes? No, you know what, I think that potentially there's a messaging group I think like, I'm thinking slightly Yeah. Okay. I think you could have a slack group where people can join and you talk about life hacks in the group
13:30
any other
13:30
any of those messaging services like the text messaging services that you've looked into? Could you get just take numbers and you just send the text with like, you know that if I have remind is that fucking ality you've got peanut butter for sale like that? You could just send one yeah, definitely every two weeks if we could work out a text message, so we get to be able to use those systems which we want to try and implement one day of the text message. send out a hack to texty You know, it's gonna get open high open right on that. We've learned a lot. And so he's getting a bit hot over the technology, you know, using SMS. Yeah, yeah, that's good. And you could have Mr. 97 hacks. That's the name that it comes through as
14:14
Yeah, yeah. So look back.
14:17
I don't know, that could be cool. So we'll support you in, you know, as long as it doesn't cost you so
14:21
someone's going to say Okay, so what you're saying is that people can text a number text the number within name and that name will then go into a database with their phone number. Yeah. And they will they will get into a weekly life hack. Yep. On a sun every Sunday night.
14:39
Yep. Or what I mean it depends when cuz if there's like a sale right cuz if there's a sale and then it'll be you can buy a peanut butter between these
14:49
guys. Because it's the thing you at Willie's the thing you didn't know you needed to know is basically what you're doing. I
14:58
could do, you could do the weekly One and then any special one hour yet. Any special ones on top.
15:06
Okay, so what are you doing Sunday? A Sunday one but then maybe it's called like an emergency hack
15:11
emergency encoding. So when
15:13
you do an SOS like, hey, this probably rolls around
15:18
in a text message to a group of people definitely bit
15:22
love this, but I think there's definitely something around the hack alert. Hacker. Okay hack alert. There is a suicide. Smith Smith used to have heaps of these things but obviously he's probably more you'll go to sleep Smith is out of business. But
15:35
yeah, well yeah, I was bargain. Yeah, there's something good on there.
15:38
I mean, the thing is in and you get your information from wherever you get it from. I mean, this is you. What you don't realise is the places like the Reddit shit you signed up to like, it's too much for me, I just want and so this is why people will like it. So don't feel like you're just relying someone else's hack. Yeah, show because that's fine. You know, your rising. You'll get your Writing. Exactly. Okay, cool. And you can build it out from there. Yeah. So
16:03
yours is you've gone from imperson to just the text every way. It's more 29 2020 2020
16:10
Yeah, I mean, there's more probably. good solid value in that. I'm glad you're building an email list for us. Yeah.
16:16
Yeah, nonetheless, we just convert that straight to F.
16:20
Yeah, yeah. So but so then from an adventure club point, yeah, she's gonna take
16:27
these elements. I really think that there's something in the small group, whatever the group becomes, like a whatsapp group.
16:37
No, get real nasty.
16:39
Now. Now Now I'm talking. I'm talking face to face group. Okay, so the face to face group looking like, for instance, I know you've done this, but I haven't. Where are we going? Oh, yeah. Did you go Was that your coconut crew? You got left behind. I've been before they were. It's
17:01
Now we didn't we didn't.
17:03
It's not about hard. And it's not about adventure. So what does that mean? It got popular in Melbourne in Melbourne this year, I think. And it was it's just in whereabouts into the airport. You fly out this nice big gorge. Oh yeah, that's right. Because Jace was a drone. It is a fuckwits. one kilometre from Yeah, yeah. But the point being is magine meeting there. Sunday morning, Sunday morning, whatever it be. And you've got 1015 people. And we all go on this walk together. That's just about the event. Once a month, an actual meetup. Yeah, and then there is the adventures I got one. I don't want to take everyone on my adventure.
17:43
So maybe you could do maybe you do a weekly adventure for yourself? Yeah, it can. It can be small, low level, but it could be something fun in you. Wherever you going to take people you go check it out first. So Ricky, yeah, just directly work out with
18:00
So water could I could I maybe start so just working this out, either writing me starting by doing them weekly. Once I've sort of got a handful, you know, half does six, six of these things, I can then take people on a curated adventure, which I've done, you start so by the end of the year 52 Adventures at week 52 I've got 51 previous adventures that I could pick from to take you know, so it's always getting bigger. It's always going to be a safe you do 12 actual meetups a year, one a month. But there's 52 Adventures I've been on. So I'm not taking everybody on my journey, but I am choosing you know, like that. And so then you can Yeah, so then people can get the real or they can live vicariously through the video or whatever. I create the story I tell on the podcast
18:54
on the idea of curation elamite Zoe foster Blake does a very good job of playlists, Spotify music playlist. How do we feel about creating a playlist for our clubs?
19:09
pod for life hack? How do you do it? How do we watch the cap? spot? What about the daily life hack for that? If you sign up and use Google Chrome just instal an ad blocker and you can use Spotify on your on your computer for free without ads. Yeah,
19:24
we can just pay a family member just get the free version.
19:27
Or we could pay a family membership and split five people and you end up paying three bucks a month. vacu good.
19:34
It's just time now
19:36
it's not checking. What was it that was checking? Oh, maybe it was
19:41
tasks you Hi,
19:43
the Jedi lunations now Yeah, you get away with it. But I think that could be if you check into your club each week, then you've got your location.
19:51
So what about like the daily talk show? Because we've got the daily talk show Spotify account. Maybe we can start curating some leases on People actually use the ship. Yes. So we had 1600 people following like a single playlist and what does it mean?
20:07
Like I'm not even across the list
20:09
like a so imagine like you want to create a vibe say like for instance for me it's like some a book club least for so since I've worked at a you know I can boy spot swallows universe I've created a playlist perfect for that all about they're all songs about a boys
20:29
yeah i mean is it a consistency thing like would you have to be updating it right yeah monster my movie said boring this fucking post malone
20:41
it's not very adventure I go
20:44
easy I've heard this is in every other fucking list so mine would be real shit
20:48
I guess is the President's we can probably all agree that it's not good for our clubs but good for the show
20:54
like a Chopin they do a show on earth you do a club one
20:57
yeah and so that's why I'm thinking but I think that Show has we have an account and I created like Jay Jay's de Lis
21:05
me Jay Jason
21:06
bangers or something? I think that I could there's a bunch of work that I could do around really curating because I've got a very specific taste
21:15
your covers you could have your covers playlist is actually
21:19
is this going slightly off the club thing? Yeah, that's completely
21:24
I think that this is something to consider I think Yeah, yeah.
21:29
We do a made up Josh. We actually do a round table or like a library made up. Like you'll have to speak quite softly
21:39
No, no, no, no, I think that's great. I think um,
21:43
how are you going to select two comes
21:45
I think actually I'll do it. Virtual I'll do a webinar to stop
21:47
I'd like to Pete Shepherd was the virtual
21:50
conference discourse. Now I'll probably use I'll just use the
21:54
Zoom conference. Get 17 people zoom call.
21:58
Probably recorded.
22:00
No, I said another idea. It's very around the show. Could we do? Is there something around? That's too much work. And I was just saying, maybe it's not all just all society. So if we record our clubs, like we do that a monthly club thing, ah, and then they go on our feed is like club bonus apps. So you can say if I did the zoom call, I'm recording it. We're having robust conversations about a book. We have the author on and on. So thing that our conversation becomes a club episode, which goes into the daily talk show feed, leave it messy by on to the podcast, because that will be good to put on the blog.
22:45
Yeah, but you took it down.
22:49
It's just out of them. It potentially could get out of the menu soon. I just want people clicking on the blog and saying what at 500 that was 57 episodes ago.
22:58
Fit while ago. Yeah, but I think this is all creating content that feeds that. So saves. Can you have a blog post that keeps getting pushed into the feed? Like you're just adding to it, so it becomes a list or you do a new post each time? You know what I mean? Like, say if you get to your 60th life hack, but you could have any one so it's like a blog post that gets updated each week but gets pushed back to the top. Is that a thing? Or you need to create a new one for now? I'm sure I'm sure there's a way to
23:26
change it. I don't know. We could definitely just we could do something where we could pull it that'd be that'd be WordPress,
23:31
actually. How about this?
23:33
So we want some exclusivity around the clubs. We want people to sign up yet. We don't want people just leeching off the the hacks put somewhere else. But what I think we could do is we could on the homepage of the website to have last week's hack. So 24 hours after it appears within the text message. It then is put on to the daily talk shows website So it's Mr. 97th life lots of sale finishes it goes up. Yeah, like yeah, once the you get 22 so everyone gets a 24 hours.
24:08
So to me, I'm
24:09
looking at $5 scrolling fact, this is good. This is good. This is good.
24:15
We have a club
24:16
section on the website on the homepage, the three columns, book club, life hack, adventure, and it's the next adventure will be wherever the gorge, the current book is. Voice while the universe the current life hack is fold your socks.
24:35
Yeah. And then now say what you mean though trying to create like some level of I gotta commit to the club because otherwise I don't know. I can't
24:44
hold that sheet off. But I don't think people knowing the book.
24:49
I can hide the book.
24:52
No, you cannot. That's fine because then it's like the the actual station is the the main
24:58
I'll definitely use an opportunity These four affiliate links so there's a clear one for me. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. So I'm going to use an affiliate link. So when people buy I'm going to encourage people to buy through my Amazon link 97. Could you use affiliate links or sales or something?
But you can have to be on all of them. JB hi fi like apple, any affiliate programmes.
25:21
Now? You'd probably just sign up for Amazon and eBay and do it through that. So you're selling people
25:27
stuff that's valid.
25:30
You just wouldn't make any money through any of the other ones. Sorry. Yeah.
25:35
You wouldn't.
25:37
You've got it you're, you're doing a club.
25:41
You'd have a treasure. Oh.
25:46
What so your idea is that you just don't have it. You don't you guys don't make any money. She's jabbered
25:50
he's just Yeah, but
25:53
jab, jab, jab.
25:54
Yeah, exactly.
25:56
$2 donation for snacks. A lot i think what you could do is get a food get like a catalogue bus or whatever and that they're pushing then you can have your
26:07
food guide for each adventure. Food god yeah. So So what do you need for the where the gorge you need like struggling or whatever?
26:15
struggling struggling. It's
26:19
like It's like you remember the chocolate nibs in my ear?
26:22
Yeah, you'd be all over the snacks.
26:25
Yeah, scrub bad. It was like a health food and it was like a mix. But it had a law that you?
26:31
Yeah, the dark chocolate. Yeah. One of my sacred skills is just getting the data.
26:40
Amen. Yeah, that's almost like it's like a mix. I think there's,
26:46
I mean, to be honest, we're not studying these as moneymakers. It's about spreading some adventures. They're saying merge merge quickly emerged. So when we're all
26:58
so much I get to the point where where we have four and a half thousand dollars worth of merge move you know yeah
27:07
Yeah, I agree.
27:08
It's I'm excited.
27:12
I think it's gonna be great all right yeah there's there's definitely something you know think of the getting brands on board using it as a mechanism for brands so I'm thinking for me milligramme might give 10% discount for any book club member potentially looking if I was to charge
27:31
who owns milligramme
27:34
is named Simon
27:35
Melbourne, Melbourne I
27:38
haven't googled shoulder dunno they own a few things I been way to manage looking at.
27:44
That is fun talking to be the
27:48
so I think that potentially one value add that we could do if it was a subscription. If it was say 50 bucks a year. So 50 bucks to be on the on the adventure club. 50 bucks to be on the Life Hack club for a few bucks to be on the book club. We then incentivize that by giving them more value in regards to discounts like an entertainment guide like a book. So what I'm thinking is yeah things around like a bookshop discount potentially right the Writers Festival discount maybe for for you it could be I think there's something around if you pay the $50 a year you get a free snack for every walk the adventure you go on and then you partner like Bray went to the gym at field and function the other day and they had kind bars you know kind of
