At a glance

From this episode’s transcript.

  • –The hosts plan a future episode trying cannabis edibles in a controlled Airbnb setting, deciding to record but not livestream it, after a long back-and-forth with chat and producer Mason.
  • –A scratchie-ticket scenario sparks a debate about whether verbal promises to split lottery winnings must be honoured even if bought with someone else's card/cash.
  • –The Savvy Dietitian's Instagram comparisons (e.g., Justin's peanut butter cups vs Reese's) are highlighted as revealing that 'healthy' snack marketing can be misleading.
  • –Tommy explains cannabis basics (THC vs CBD, smoking vs edibles onset/duration) based on personal experience, while Josh is a cannabis novice concerned about drug-test timing before flying home.
  • –A roadside allergic reaction (rash) is tentatively traced to Trader Joe's liquid laundry detergent, mirroring a prior reaction Amy's mum had.

Questions this episode answers

Did Tommy and Josh plan to try edibles on The Daily Talk Show?

Yes — in episode 510 they discuss buying edibles from the MedMen dispensary in Los Angeles and recording (but not livestreaming) an episode about the experience, with producer Mason there for safety.

Why was Tommy itchy and covered in red dots in this episode?

Tommy suspected an allergic reaction to Trader Joe's liquid laundry detergent, noting his legs became itchy after wearing jeans washed in it, similar to a reaction Amy's mum previously had.

What snacks did Tommy and Josh try from 7-Eleven in this episode?

They tried Twinkies, a Reese's Big Cup, Hostess chocolate donuts, Kellogg's Rice Krispie Treats M&M Minis, pretzel and white chocolate M&Ms, Cheetos (cheddar jalapeño), and Hot Tamales, alongside scratching a 7-Eleven scratchie ticket.

Tommy: The Daily Talk Show.

0:04

Josh: It's a Daily Talk Show episode 510. Technically it's Fat Fridays in Australia, but where we are, technically it's not, but that's okay.

0:15

Tommy: We're taking advantage of two Fat Fridays because Thursday today in LA, yeah, right now back home, Fat Friday. So if you're celebrating, uh, welcome.

0:24

Josh: It is—

0:24

Tommy: we're getting double Fat Fridays.

0:25

Josh: 8:30 PM here in Los Angeles if you are playing at home.

0:29

Tommy: Before I get the snacks out, I think it's karma that I've been hit with.

0:37

Josh: Oh yeah?

0:40

Tommy: I think I'm allergic to the washing machine liquid.

0:45

Josh: Really? I thought you were gonna say you're allergic to something at Whole Foods.

0:50

Tommy: No, I mean, it's hard. You should do a process of elimination. So no, the only thing I can think of is because it's like I've got, I'm standing, can I show you?

1:01

Josh: Yeah, you got a rash?

1:02

Tommy: It's like, um.

1:03

Josh: I'm breathing funny at the moment.

1:05

Tommy: Hang on, like, see all that?

1:06

Josh: Oh yeah.

1:07

Tommy: So the red dots?

1:08

Josh: That's bed bugs.

1:08

Tommy: Nah, it's definitely not bed bugs.

1:10

Josh: He's got bed bugs everyone.

1:11

Tommy: It's definitely not bed bugs, it's all up my legs.

1:13

Josh: Morning bearded fan.

1:14

Tommy: My like, um, the after, because I hadn't worn a pair of jeans that I'd washed until a couple of days ago and then after my legs were fully itchy.

1:24

Josh: Is it because they haven't been washed properly?

1:28

Tommy: No, it's the detergent. So what I'm going to do, I'm going to quickly go get the Trader Joe's detergent and I want you to—

1:33

Mason: Oh no, that's the one that I use.

1:35

Tommy: Amy— No, no, it doesn't mean you are. Amy's allergic to this specific detergent.

1:41

Josh: What it's called? What is it called?

1:42

Tommy: No, it's— I don't know what it's called. It's like some—

1:43

Josh: So when you get the box, what do you want to look for?

1:45

Tommy: I don't get it. It's Amy's mum that had it.

1:47

Josh: Like as in now, when you get the box, what do you want 97 to look for?

1:50

Tommy: Type in allergic reactions and then the exact name of it because this is what we did with the one Amy used and it came up with all of these scathing reviews. Is everyone allergic to everything?

1:59

Josh: A thing, but we'll try. All right, go, go, go. Perfect. Uh, well, whilst, uh, Tommy does that, I'll just, uh, see what's happening over the live stream. Grace says, uh, great lighting, Gronks. Thank you, Grace. Uh, okay, so it's actually clear liquid.

2:15

Tommy: Yeah, it's clear liquid.

2:16

Josh: Trader Joe's liquid laundry detergent. I wouldn't have spelled detergent that way.

2:22

Tommy: Uh, D-E-T-E-R-G-E-N-T. Detergent.

2:26

Josh: Doesn't look like a word.

2:26

Tommy: So have a look at that exact— like, grab it, mate. And see if you can find other people having allergic reactions, 'cause I think it's probably pretty common. Anyway, let's get into Fat Fridays while I itch.

2:37

Josh: We went to 7-Eleven and we were both set some tasks of getting some different treats that we're gonna try.

2:44

Tommy: Yeah, and so these are very, these are American. Yeah, okay.

2:53

Josh: Do you wanna get the, do you wanna talk about the scratching? So we got a scratchie and Mr. 97 asked the guy, when do they announce the winners? He doesn't know how fucking scratchies work. That's embarrassing.

3:08

Tommy: Maybe he was rattled because you can't buy scratchies at 7-Eleven in Australia.

3:11

Josh: Really?

3:12

Tommy: No way.

3:13

Josh: What do you mean no way?

3:14

Tommy: It's gambling.

3:16

Josh: You can buy them at newsagents.

3:18

Tommy: Yeah, but that's not 7-Eleven.

3:19

Josh: Okay.

3:20

Tommy: What convenience store can you buy a scratchie from in Australia?

3:24

Josh: I'm not sure, I just assume all of them. I haven't bought a scratchie in a long time. As a kid, I got addicted. Every time we went up to Endeavour Hill shops, Mum would get a scratchie for me.

3:34

Tommy: You know what we'd do?

3:34

Josh: I'd just be at the back, "A coin." "Oh, Mr.

3:37

Tommy: 97, can you pass that piece of metal that came off?" I've worked it out. There was a piece of rogue metal in our backpack and it's come off the edge light, the side of the edge light. It's just broken off. Anyway. If you were at a workplace, I mean, this, we've got our own workplace. Let's just say you went and bought a, say, New Year's Eve in Australia, they do a big draw. If you bought it with your own cash, no, not even, you use Bree's card because you didn't have yours on you.

4:11

Josh: Yeah.

4:11

Tommy: To buy a Tatts Lotto ticket and it won, but you had said, "Boys, I'll get it for us," and then you buy it?

4:20

Josh: No, you have to honour that.

4:22

Tommy: You would honour that?

4:22

Josh: Yeah, yeah. I think you have to.

4:25

Tommy: I mean, you say it now, but it's— Absolute scumbag if you don't honour it.

4:28

Josh: No, but if it's, it gets harder if it wasn't that clear. If people were being shit about paying you back, what I'd probably do is like, "Guys, I need money in my account by this day." Okay, then say—

4:41

Tommy: And then if it doesn't go in, say I transferred, I transferred, JJ, I got you. Mr. 97 forgot to transfer. Hey, and no, no, and then they announced the winner, which is you who bought the ticket and me because I've paid you, but Mr. 97 hadn't given you any cash yet.

4:56

Josh: Well, he wouldn't have received, he doesn't receive the numbers until he gives the cash. So, so he wouldn't have even known. They don't have their names. It's not like people like the Tatts Lotto know who it is unless you're, yeah, I mean, now you get a tax card, digital thing.

5:09

Tommy: Okay, so let's go through. My point of bringing that up is Mr. 97 pulled out a $5 note. And so we weren't allowed to use— we weren't allowed to use a credit card, which makes sense. Just don't load up gambling on credit cards. Um, so Mr. 97, this is your money. If we win that, if we win—

5:29

Josh: well, yes, what are we gonna do?

5:30

Tommy: $20 grand, we get to split it?

5:33

Josh: Yeah, split it.

5:34

Tommy: As in split it between the three of us?

5:35

Mason: Yeah, definitely.

5:36

Josh: Okay, okay. It's also Rick's. Your dad gave you the cash.

5:40

Tommy: Does Rick get some?

5:42

Josh: No, no.

5:43

Tommy: Rick, your son is just sign the verbal contract that you get $0 even though it's yours.

5:48

Josh: Should we do this first?

5:49

Tommy: Yeah, let's do this first.

5:49

Josh: Okay. All right, so Tommy is, should we read it first? All right, so it says winning 7, there's a bonus spot, win $20 instantly, enter the second chance draw.

6:01

Tommy: So match any of your numbers to any of the 3 winning numbers.

6:07

Josh: Where's the, okay, so the winning numbers are here. Okay, great. Where do we go?

6:11

Tommy: Here we go.

6:14

Josh: Okay. Gemma says she loves the marble and the overhead lights. Thank you. Thanks, Gem.

6:19

Mason: It's 7-Eleven Day as well. Grace just mentioned. Is it?

6:22

Josh: No, I think she just said happy 7-Eleven Day. I'm guessing that's just Grace saying, as in it's the 7-Eleven Day for us. Oh no, hang on. No, it's the 7th of the— Bullshit.

6:32

Mason: I know.

6:33

Josh: It's the 7th. It's the 7th of the 11th.

6:35

Tommy: Nice. In Australia.

6:37

Josh: No, here.

6:38

Mason: And we went to 7-Eleven, yeah.

6:40

Josh: And we've gone to 7-Eleven. Grace, you're correct, thank you. It's 7-Eleven day. All right, so Tommy's, so we're gonna start off with our numbers. It's very tedious to watch.

6:52

Tommy: It's really annoying when you don't have a 50-cent piece. Mum used to buy these for me. The amount of times, actually more than once, more than once I've found—

7:02

Josh: Don't do the bonus thing yet, I'm not liking that, Dorian. What are you talking about? Don't do the bonus thing.

7:05

Tommy: You just scratch it all off and then you work it out.

7:07

Josh: No, do it by bits.

7:08

Tommy: Mum, mate, stop micromanaging me. Mum has, I mean, I've actually found on the ground winning Tattslotto, winning tickets that had a couple of bucks on them more than once. Someone's obviously done it and it's like, ah, damn it, but won.

7:24

Josh: Just be careful of—

7:26

Tommy: Mate, I'm fine.

7:27

Josh: There's just a lot of wax. I wonder how they make, I would love to see how they make them. Go to a factory? Yeah. Okay, here we go. So read out the requirements again.

7:38

Tommy: Yeah, hang on a second.

7:39

Josh: Okay.

7:39

Tommy: I'm just getting it to the point where I can just see the numbers.

7:43

Josh: This is really great.

7:45

Tommy: But you tell me why you got the things that you did and tell me what the food is.

7:50

Josh: Okay, food-wise. Okay, so I got this at the very end. This is a Reese's Big Cup Crunchy King Size. I got this because at the end of buying everything, I realised that there was nothing that I was really passionate about because I'd just gotten things I thought were quirky or interesting. So, I got this as something that I actually genuinely love. Okay, that's the first thing. Second thing, donuts, frosted, they're chocolate donuts. These are small little chocolates, sorry, small little doughnuts and they're in a packet and they're by a company called Hostess.

8:35

Tommy: Yeah.

8:35

Josh: Then the other thing, what are you— what, what, 97?

8:38

Mason: We've got a lot to go.

8:40

Josh: And then the thing that you would have seen from the movies is some Twinkies, golden sponge cake with creamy filling. We've got 2 of them. Finally, from my selection, I got— and I'm actually not that much of a fan of these, but it seems like a classic. It's the Kellogg's Rice Krispie Treats M&M Minis.

9:03

Tommy: I've just given the spreadsheet to Mr. 97 because it's going to require more thought than us two gronks right here trying to work it out.

9:10

Josh: Well, that's because you just brushed it off all too quickly. Anyway, tell us what you got.

9:13

Tommy: What does that mean?

9:14

Josh: Because you just, you should say, okay, scrape off their numbers, take in all their numbers, and then—

9:22

Tommy: Yeah, but does that make for good viewing? Look at Mr. 97, he's trying to work it out. Look at these little guys.

9:26

Josh: It's because you've just scratched every single part of the scratchy off.

9:29

Tommy: No, anyways, all right, so what I got— yeah, absolute gronks. Um, I didn't even know these existed until Alexandra asked us to bring her back a bunch. Uh, pretzel M&Ms, and then I got white chocolate M&Ms.

9:45

Josh: And then did you get the—

9:46

Tommy: I got these, these are Cheetos. Mate, just let me fucking talk about my own food.

9:51

Josh: Sorry.

9:52

Tommy: Cheddar jalapeño flavor.

9:55

Josh: Yum. So what about the ones that the one thing that 97 got?

9:58

Tommy: Mr. 97, he's, um, his new nickname is Vanilla. That's his new nickname. It's pretty safe to say that he'll choose vanilla if we're at the ice cream store.

10:09

Josh: Absolutely. If he has ice cream at all. He probably won't have ice cream, let's be honest. Anyway, do you think this is a vanilla option?

10:16

Tommy: I mean, he's trying to live on the edge right now. He got hot Tamales.

10:20

Josh: Hot tamales. Do you know what hot tamales are?

10:22

Tommy: No, like a chili? Hot tamale?

10:25

Josh: So let's— what do they actually say?

10:27

Tommy: Did you know that?

10:28

Josh: Fierce cinnamon. Yeah, I think they're like, um, Mexican maybe, hot tamales. Uh, anyway, so what should— how do we work out what to eat first?

10:36

Tommy: Well, what do you want out of all of this stuff?

10:39

Josh: Out of— oh, why don't we do a swap?

10:41

Tommy: Yeah, I'm happy to do a swap.

10:42

Josh: Let's start with the Twinkie. 97, did you work out whether we won anything?

10:45

Mason: So it says the winning numbers are 39, 41, and 13. And then our numbers that we got, only one of them matches, and that's the number 39.

10:58

Josh: Great. And what does it say? You only have to match one.

11:01

Mason: It says ticket. It literally says ticket.

11:05

Tommy: What does that mean?

11:06

Josh: That doesn't make sense.

11:07

Tommy: Hang on, I think you're gonna match two.

11:09

Josh: Match any of your numbers to any of the three winning numbers, win the prize. Uncover a 2x, 5x, or 10x symbol automatically. All right, 13.

11:21

Tommy: You know what, this is why people throw out these tickets.

11:24

Josh: Okay, ticket, here we go. I'm looking on the back.

11:27

Tommy: I wonder if there would be any, um, issue with us winning it as Australians and then not having a residential address and then being able to claim the prize. You reckon there'd be any issue?

11:38

Josh: So what does it mean? Okay, prizes in the game range from free ticket to $20,000. So maybe we get another ticket.

11:44

Mason: That's what I was thinking, a free another ticket, which is—

11:47

Josh: So you're gonna have to take it in and get another ticket for us.

11:49

Tommy: Okay, I wonder if, um, what's the legal gambling age here in America?

11:53

Josh: Can you look that up? 21. I think it's on the back. Okay, so these are Twinkies.

11:57

Tommy: We couldn't even go to the Comedy Store. The Comedy Store, really, you need to be over 21 to go.

12:01

Josh: Outrageous.

12:02

Tommy: To see—

12:03

Mason: 18 or older to purchase, play, or claim.

12:05

Tommy: Mate, these things—

12:06

Josh: So here we go, Twinkie. Oh, they've—

12:09

Tommy: You hold your one and then I'll take mine off.

12:11

Josh: Oh my God, they're stuck to the Oh no. Wow. How would you describe it?

12:19

Tommy: It's just like a soft finger of bread with a creamy filling.

12:29

Josh: When would you eat these?

12:32

Tommy: I don't know. I don't know who's doing that.

12:34

Josh: Would you have it as like an afternoon snack?

12:38

Tommy: I mean, when I was 11.

12:39

Josh: You're an animal, Paul. Don't you think?

12:41

Tommy: If you're an adult that eats Twinkies, you're 6. You're actually 6 years old. However old your ID says, you're 6.

12:49

Josh: Alright, so that's the Twinkies. Can we try one more?

12:55

Tommy: Yeah, have another.

12:56

Josh: What should we try now?

12:57

Tommy: Oh, let's have the pretzel M&M's.

12:59

Josh: Okay, and then I think we end on the hot tamales because I have no idea what the hot tamales are going to be like. Okay, well, you're just putting— okay, it's a nightmare. Fucking hell. Alright.

13:10

Tommy: Yeah, they're good. I mean, they're not that great actually. Second bite.

13:20

Josh: If you don't want to be annoyed by food chat, switch off now. Alright. Vegetarian stuff.

13:30

Tommy: Oh mate, put an end to it.

13:32

Josh: I'm trying to work out.

13:33

Tommy: No, I didn't put an end to the conversation.

13:34

Josh: No, well, I'm thinking, I don't know if it's worth it.

13:38

Tommy: Is it affecting your mental health?

13:41

Josh: No, because it's just choices that we have. Like, we— there's so many things that we can't eat. Menus are so limiting.

13:48

Tommy: Put— don't stuff it up while you're here.

13:50

Mason: You've done such a good job.

13:51

Tommy: You're too far in. You've been dating too long, you may as well get married.

13:59

Josh: Shit analogy. No, but I think, um, because we're going to Chicken and Waffles tomorrow.

14:05

Tommy: Is that what we're actually doing?

14:06

Josh: Yeah, we got— that's where we're going. Yeah, and I just feel that, um, The Savvy Dietitian on Instagram has been doing all these posts sort of debunking the film.

14:15

Tommy: Can you bring that up, Mr. Nicevz? The Savvy Dietitian, it's actually one of my favourite Instagram pages. She's done such a fucking great job branding it and how she presents these comparisons. So she'll take from the healthy aisle yoghurt bites that you'd think are healthy for your kid and then get Maltesers and then put, you know, a little handful next to each other so she does like the same weight and then she compares the calories or compares the macronutrients within it.

14:48

Josh: Well, we'd been going to Whole Foods and getting these Justin's peanut butter cups, which I thought was essentially like healthy food.

14:55

Tommy: I don't know how you thought that.

14:56

Josh: She compared them to Reese's. But she compared them to Reese's Peanut Butter Cups and they were identical.

15:02

Tommy: And they were, okay.

15:02

Josh: Absolutely, yeah, completely identical.

15:04

Tommy: Well, that's the thing, it's health food bars. How many times have they stung you? Not you personally, but like in a—

15:14

Josh: Many times, personally.

15:16

Tommy: The amount of times I've spent in the aisle looking in the back of something, like especially when I was trying to be a top dog bodybuilder and like just trying to find some, fucking secret. It's like you're looking for, if only I had that much fucking staying power for other things.

15:35

Josh: Preservatives and chemicals, I'm curious, like because the Savvy Dietitian was sort of saying like, people were saying, oh, the Reese's Peanut Butter Cups has like, it has more preservatives.

15:45

Tommy: Yeah, yeah, I get that.

15:46

Josh: Which is like, so what? Which I thought was interesting.

15:49

Tommy: So what is in? They're just words, you don't know what that actually means.

15:53

Josh: Like it doesn't matter as much. We're getting close to the— okay, you're gonna open that for me. We're getting closer to the end of the trip and we need to make sure that we are honouring all of our promises. 97 promises. Top of your head, what do we need to do before we leave?

16:12

Mason: What have we? We've got Campbell's camera.

16:16

Tommy: Oh yeah.

16:17

Mason: Oh yes.

16:17

Tommy: He got a topless photo of me.

16:19

Josh: Yeah, he did.

16:20

Mason: Yeah, yeah, so Campbell gave us a film camera.

16:25

Josh: Yes.

16:27

Mason: 24 photos or 24 things of film.

16:30

Josh: Yeah.

16:31

Mason: So that works.

16:32

Tommy: 24 photos?

16:33

Mason: Yep. And we installed it today, so it's all working. So I've just gotta fill up that whole reel of film and then we can—

16:40

Josh: And you get to leave the Airbnb with it? 'Cause if all the photos are just in the Airbnb, it's gonna be boring.

16:46

Mason: Yeah. Well, I was asking you how good is it at nighttime? And you said it's 400 ISO.

16:51

Tommy: Less questions, more photos.

16:53

Josh: It's got a flash.

16:54

Tommy: Yeah, less questions, more just snapping.

16:57

Josh: What about the Lime—

16:58

Mason: the Lime scooters?

16:59

Josh: Bird scooters.

17:00

Tommy: Got to get that going. I don't know how, but I think we'll have to ask Matt Diavella.

17:04

Josh: Yeah, he's got a US credit card. Surely we can give him some cash money.

17:08

Tommy: I need to have it activated, and then you and I need to reenact the Titanic driving down the street.

17:14

Josh: Yes.

17:14

Tommy: That'd be lovely, wouldn't it?

17:15

Josh: Could be a nightmare.

17:16

Tommy: No, I'll be the one controlling it.

17:18

Mason: Good photo though.

17:18

Tommy: I'll be the one at the back, you'll be in front. And so I'll be just right up behind you.

17:23

Josh: Okay.

17:24

Tommy: And just, all right, and we're gonna ride along doing that. Yeah, and then we'll put in the music of the Titanic.

17:30

Josh: The other thing is, um, Belinda Wall.

17:33

Tommy: Yeah, what's Belinda got for us?

17:35

Josh: She emailed and asked, like, we had asked for a favour and she said, yeah, I can do it.

17:39

Tommy: What was the favor? I don't remember.

17:41

Josh: She was looking over the deck when we're going to sell advertising.

17:44

Tommy: What did she want? So she's, um, Do you want to tell me? Oh yeah, what's the fucking— what deal have we done? Jeez.

17:51

Josh: The deal is that we need to bring her back a souvenir.

17:56

Tommy: Anything?

17:56

Josh: Yes.

17:58

Tommy: Hot tamales.

17:59

Josh: Hot tamales.

18:00

Mason: Got it.

18:00

Josh: No, we're going to give it some sort of thought.

18:02

Tommy: Okay.

18:03

Josh: We went to, um, we went to Mad Men the other day.

18:07

Tommy: You can't bring back gummies.

18:10

Josh: So what is the deal in regards to—

18:13

Tommy: So MedMen, for people who don't know, MedMen, MedMen, MedMen, it, it's, it just take out the people in the, in the Apple Store, uh, and put in the workers all in red tops, same clinical style environment, a bit dingy compared to an Apple Store. Yeah, of course they don't have the budgets, but it's a store just dedicated.

18:35

Josh: They should have the budgets.

18:36

Tommy: Not yet, it's a new, new business. It's a store dedicated to selling marijuana and THC products. They have drinks, like I couldn't believe it. We went in there and it just fucking blew my mind. It stinks, it smells like weed. It smelled like my brother's room when I was 12 sniffing around his bloody shelves.

18:55

Josh: Well, they had all these dispenser things where you can sort of line up the grills and you give it a bit of a sniff.

19:00

Tommy: Oh yeah, so it's like a see-through container and then you turn and it opens up and so it's like a smelling vent. So you can get a whiff of this, the weed smell. Had you smelled it before?

19:09

Josh: Yeah, I don't know where from, but when we were, um, uh, in there, I did feel the pressure that we should get something.

19:18

Tommy: Uh, I just don't know if we can put it— write it off as a business expense.

19:22

Josh: I feel like we could based on content.

19:24

Tommy: True, but then it's probably like alcohol, you can't claim— you can't claim alcohol in Australia.

19:30

Josh: Bogged down.

19:32

Tommy: Right, it will be a different conversation if we actually do get audited. I mean, I'm sure I won't care.

19:38

Josh: And so the, um, so what's the, the gummies? She was sort of saying, okay, this bag has this, this bag has that. What was interesting you out of the whole lot?

19:47

Tommy: So there's the gummies have THC a certain amount and then CBD.

19:55

Josh: Yeah.

19:55

Tommy: And so CBD is the non- psychoactive, which means you don't get stoned from it. It's not like, you know, there's no real high. But then there's all these varying ranges of gummies that have CBD and also varying ranges of the THC, which is the stuff that makes you get high. And so I don't know, you can just ask, but like the thing is, if you got it wrong and you get a strong one, yeah, I wouldn't wanna be around you.

20:23

Josh: Gemma Queen Gronkh said celebrities are using CBD oil on their feet to ease paint of heels on the red carpet now.

20:30

Tommy: Great idea. And so, I mean, everyone's just stoned around here.

20:34

Josh: So yeah, I do wonder about if we were to do something, because I was saying, oh, maybe we could do edibles on the show, and you were saying no. Like, you're actually— you're being the one that's saying no to all these things, dude.

20:47

Tommy: You want me to say yes? Because yeah, I'm not the one who's gonna absolutely fucking lose my marbles. I've smoked enough weed in my life.

20:54

Josh: What do you think would happen to me. Are you worried that it would knock out the rest of our trip?

20:59

Tommy: Oh no, because you go to sleep and then it's all gone. Like if you took something now and then went to bed, you wait, what do you wake up like?

21:05

Mason: Is it like a hangover?

21:06

Tommy: Like, no, you'd be out the front doing a workout again like when you got drunk.

21:10

Josh: Gemma said she would pay good money to see me on edibles.

21:13

Tommy: They couldn't be strong. So you can get like super low dose ones that you'd probably feel good. You'd probably loosen up a bit.

21:19

Josh: My back's a bit sore. Would it help with that?

21:21

Tommy: Um, yep. Tally Smyth, her feedback on you was, uh, you're less highly strung, if that's a term. Like, yeah, she was saying, like, saying that about me when I was drinking. Yeah, she was saying both of you, but she was saying both of you were fucking loosened up.

21:35

Josh: She was saying that I was talking too much about being drunk, but you did definitely both loosen up a bit. I don't remember that.

21:41

Tommy: I don't remember that either. That's a response of a sober person who's highly strung.

21:46

Josh: And so, um, okay.

21:48

Mason: Do we—

21:49

Josh: the idea of doing something a little bit naughty?

21:53

Tommy: Oh man, I'm happy to fucking do it. I'll enter that.

21:56

Josh: How?

21:57

Tommy: I feel like we need to break that down. Just get something nice, $20 for a little—

21:59

Josh: Some supervision. Maybe we get Matt D'Avella to supervise. Who could we get to supervise?

22:06

Tommy: Do you want to— so the first time I got stoned was— I was very young, too young, wouldn't wish it upon anyone. But I did do it, and, um, and I thought I was in a dream.

22:19

Josh: Okay.

22:19

Tommy: And so that feeling still exists as an adult, and I've had it, and I— but now I understand what that feeling is. So it's like you guys who couldn't stop fucking talking about, oh my God, I'm feeling a bit drunk. It's like you didn't know that that feeling existed until you did it. And so there is a new thing with marijuana or THC. So when it's in your system, and it's a very different feeling to being drunk.

22:47

Josh: What about the idea of going to a place that we can set up the camera and we do edibles? No, we do edibles like it's in a controlled environment, and then we do improv. What do you think?

23:01

Tommy: Yeah, that would be very funny.

23:03

Josh: What's the deal with driving and stuff? You can't drive.

23:06

Tommy: No, it's just illegal. So it's legal for anybody over the age of, you know, whatever, 21. To buy it here, but you cannot buy it in drive.

23:15

Josh: But so, if I take it, how long is it going to be in my system? If I get the RBT thing where they're scraping my tongue in Melbourne?

23:21

Tommy: You'll be fine, you'll be fine. Mate, do you actually know anyone who's had the tongue scraped?

23:24

Josh: I've, uh, 6 times.

23:26

Tommy: You've had it scraped?

23:26

Josh: In 1 week.

23:28

Tommy: What?

23:29

Josh: That's a joke.

23:30

Tommy: Do you know anyone though? I personally don't know anyone in Melbourne.

23:32

Josh: When you watch RBT, it happens a lot.

23:35

Tommy: It does happen a lot, but I— so you'll be fine. By next week, like you have it here and you go home, you'd be fine.

23:42

Josh: So Shannon is saying that she would pay money to see this.

23:45

Tommy: Shannon as well?

23:46

Josh: Yeah, I feel like we could set up a GoFundMe where like we don't have to worry whether it's an expense or not.

23:50

Tommy: Do you think our— because we've been talking a lot about insurance because it's like, uh, Matt Diavella was telling us that it's like $8,000 before his insurance policy kicks in.

24:02

Josh: Yeah, so he has to pay $8,000 of different expenses until his insurance will start paying. Which is crazy. So that's very common across all our mates who have been speaking to like 6 grand or— That's a lot of money.

24:13

Tommy: It's yeah it's just $6k to $8k seems like it's a pretty normal thing here. I wonder if travel insurance would cover you if you got so stoned that you got so scared and you went to— And you had to go to hospital? I wonder if they'd cover that?

24:29

Josh: And so do we think like if we were to do it, do you think the day of our flight Sunday? No!

24:36

Tommy: You're not allowed on a flight drunk.

24:39

Mason: We can't have you going through customs in the airport like that!

24:44

Tommy: Is there some Lynn Jansen banter in there?

24:46

Josh: What's Lynn— uh... Is Lynn there?! Fam! What does Lynn say?

24:50

Tommy: This is Josh's mum.

24:51

Mason: Get it!

24:52

Josh: Get lit fam!

24:55

Tommy: I have a feeling that Jake is with her saying we need to walk up after this and buy some of these because we can do it tomorrow night. I'm excited now.

25:06

Josh: All right, so just—

25:07

Mason: you wanted to know how long it stays in your system for?

25:10

Josh: I just don't like the, uh, the smell's not that great.

25:12

Tommy: No, there's no smell. If we're doing—

25:14

Mason: you're eating a gummy?

25:15

Josh: Yeah, gummies or something.

25:17

Tommy: I'm happy to smoke it.

25:19

Mason: No, no, no, no, no.

25:20

Tommy: Can I smoke it?

25:21

Josh: No, you don't want to smoke it. You don't like smoking. You seem like you— fuck, the camera goes on. I'll smoke it.

25:27

Tommy: I love smoking. What about—

25:28

Josh: you literally said you didn't want to smoke it.

25:30

Tommy: Vape it then.

25:31

Mason: No, no, not vaping.

25:31

Josh: That's cancer.

25:32

Mason: Yeah, that's cancer.

25:33

Tommy: Yeah, but so is sunglasses.

25:34

Mason: Yeah, no, but I don't want lung cancer.

25:37

Josh: That's a good point. No, but you get like fucking—

25:39

Tommy: Okay, well, so I'm happy to get—

25:40

Josh: Lynn Jackson said hacked.

25:43

Tommy: We can get a, um, like a very low dose that will just make you feel a bit nice.

25:47

Josh: Look what Lynn just wrote. Uh, don't do drugs, do meat, Josh.

25:56

Tommy: And so we're seeing, um, we're seeing your friend Spencer tomorrow. Oh yeah, who's a local Californian lad. I think he would have a good insight into it because, um, oh, and we're also seeing Ryan Nicodemus.

26:09

Josh: Yeah, and he, he loves a bit of pot.

26:11

Tommy: I think it's the Californian way. Is it like this place just makes so much sense to legalize?

26:16

Josh: I think Ryan would be a great one. Maybe we could ask him.

26:19

Tommy: I don't want to put him through that sort of experience.

26:23

Josh: I know, it seems like it needs to be a longer one.

26:26

Tommy: We feel it will be a 7-hour episode.

26:29

Josh: Yeah, it'll be great. But it feels like there could— there needs to be some stimulus. Maybe like we ask questions of ourselves, like we play AMA. Yeah, we do an Ask Me Anything.

26:40

Mason: But I don't— you don't want it live streamed?

26:42

Tommy: No, no, no, not live stream.

26:44

Mason: You can't do that. No, it's because I don't trust what you're going to say, to be honest.

26:49

Tommy: No, no, definitely not.

26:50

Mason: What if you just get outrageous?

26:51

Josh: What about if we— where's our squidgees? Why don't we do like an exclusive Live stream. Nah. Okay, so how are we gonna— so where do we go from here?

27:03

Tommy: Um, after this, I, I'm happy to— oh, what time is it?

27:06

Mason: It is 9 o'clock.

27:09

Tommy: When does Meatman close? When does Meatman close?

27:11

Josh: 11 maybe?

27:12

Tommy: I think it was 11. They're open from like 8 AM to 11 PM. They would be late.

27:16

Josh: So, oh no, she said 10, remember?

27:17

Mason: 10 PM.

27:18

Tommy: So it's gonna be 9.

27:19

Mason: So you got an hour. Half an hour or whatever.

27:21

Josh: No, no. No, you got 2 minutes.

27:24

Tommy: 2 minutes?

27:24

Josh: Oh, wait till 9? What are you talking about?

27:26

Tommy: Oh no, sorry, an hour and 2 minutes.

27:27

Josh: 10 PM. An hour and 2 minutes. I'm happy to walk up and get something.

27:30

Tommy: I mean, there's one, there's a weed shop like literally—

27:32

Josh: I think MedMen.

27:33

Mason: I like the branding of MedMen.

27:35

Tommy: All right.

27:35

Josh: And so I like the idea of one in some sort of shiny packaging so it looks legit.

27:41

Tommy: We just need to work out which one it is. Like which one— it's all the beauty of what we're talking about doing is I was smoking weed when I was young and not knowing what the fuck it was. It could have had fly spray in it, it could have had anything in it, could have been spiked, it could have been—

27:57

Josh: but this is gonna be high quality.

27:58

Tommy: No, no, what I'm saying is it's specific. Like, you look on the back, it tells you to the fucking rat poison. No, it tells you exactly what's in it. And so it's a billion-dollar industry, multiple billion dollars.

28:10

Josh: So when are we doing it?

28:12

Tommy: Um, so it might be Saturday night.

28:15

Mason: It says here that it can stay in your blood up to 36 hours.

28:18

Tommy: Sure, doesn't matter.

28:21

Josh: What about when we go—

28:21

Mason: you said you don't want it on the plane.

28:23

Tommy: No, no, no, no, you're not stoned for 36 hours, you're stoned for 4 or 5 hours.

28:28

Mason: What if they do a piss test in customs?

28:29

Tommy: They don't do that. What, you're in California?

28:32

Josh: No. Okay, yeah, sure.

28:34

Mason: Oh yeah, that's a good point.

28:36

Tommy: The only thing you're thinking about is going home and then driving. It's not gonna happen. It takes fucking 36 hours.

28:43

Josh: What about— there seems like there could be something where we go to a beach and do it.

28:47

Tommy: No, no, because then we have to get home unless you—

28:49

Josh: and so how we— so I don't want to— I don't know if I want this Airbnb to be the place where I have this memory.

28:56

Tommy: Yeah, sure, sure. Now that's, that's, um, it's an approach.

28:59

Josh: Why don't we ask Steve Eller?

29:01

Tommy: Yeah, great. What's his 30-day challenge? Imagine that, 30 days of edibles, see what happens.

29:09

Josh: Okay, well, why don't we, um, contact D'Vella? Yeah, because I would feel— I don't, I don't know if I trust just you two.

29:17

Tommy: I want someone else in the room at the airport. That doesn't happen, Shannon. You're totally right. These guys are already paranoid before. You haven't taken anything.

29:23

Josh: You haven't watched Border Security.

29:24

Tommy: What else is here? Um, the staff will be so helpful. Yeah, I think you go like—

29:29

Mason: they will be.

29:30

Tommy: That's the thing.

29:31

Mason: The lady was lovely the other night.

29:33

Tommy: Yeah, you're gonna walk in and say, look, 'Here's what we're doing,' and they'll be excited because remember, they're just getting stoners coming in.

29:40

Josh: Yeah, great. So why don't we, um, I want to see who else we can get involved that we know. Ryan Sheldon's in town. What about Ryan?

29:48

Tommy: I'll tell you what, you're doing it with the only people you trust.

29:52

Mason: All right, less the better.

29:54

Tommy: Trust me, you don't like people, as in interacting with a bunch of people.

29:59

Mason: He didn't mind when he was drunk.

30:01

Tommy: Oh, he loved it. Okay, no, but you want just a safe group of people. Yeah, and I'm saying Airbnb, Mason's safe, you're safe, and a live stream. Yes, and the people of—

30:12

Josh: okay, we'll do a quick vote before we go, guys. Should we do— should we be live streaming it, yay or nay? Just in the comments.

30:18

Mason: No, no, no, you gotta—

30:20

Josh: you don't want to live stream?

30:21

Mason: I don't want to live stream it.

30:23

Josh: So, but we'll record the whole thing and put it up? Yeah, as an episode. How long is it going to take to get through the system? That goes in how long till we start feeling it?

30:31

Mason: It won't hit you, will it?

30:31

Tommy: We'll be stoned in 10 minutes. 10 minutes? 15 minutes. Really?

30:36

Josh: Yeah.

30:36

Tommy: If you smoke it, you'll be stoned within 3 minutes.

30:38

Mason: And how long does it last for?

30:39

Tommy: Like if you, like if we vape it or whatever?

30:41

Mason: Nah, I'd rather a gummy.

30:43

Tommy: It will last a couple of hours and then 3 hours, but you'll go to sleep. It's not some hot, like you're not jumping up and down. You'll end up wanting to go to bed, which will be great, and then you'll have a nice sleep.

30:55

Josh: Rach wants to see it, Daniel wants to see it, Shannon wants to see it. Shannon says If you're not going to livestream, she doesn't want any editing.

31:02

Tommy: Yeah, that's fair. We don't edit any episodes, so—

31:05

Josh: Okay. The problem is, how much am I going to edit?

31:09

Tommy: It's so good. I'm so excited.

31:11

Josh: Okay. All right, that'll be fun. All right, it's the daily talk show. If you've got anything—

31:15

Mason: No, no, you've got to try the spicy things.

31:17

Josh: Okay. The tamales.

31:19

Mason: Can you—

31:20

Tommy: Mossy, darling, I'm bringing these home for you.

31:23

Josh: Okay. Here are the tamales. Uh, actually, Gem says no. She says if you live stream it, you'll be checking your phone the whole time.

31:36

Tommy: Yeah, just enjoy it.

31:38

Mason: Just roll on the camera.

31:40

Josh: Tamales, do they smell hot?

31:43

Tommy: Okay, they smell—

31:44

Josh: can you smell? Yeah, cinnamony.

31:45

Tommy: Oh wow, give me one.

31:46

Josh: Okay, please. Oops, I got one.

31:52

Tommy: I remember these as a kid.

31:53

Josh: Really? Right.

31:55

Tommy: I had an American store in— there was one in Gardenvale, the first, like, USA Foods. You would have gone there.

32:01

Josh: Um, I actually—

32:02

Tommy: it's now in Moorabbin. So it started— actually, the first one opened up— the people who still own the other one opened it up in Gardenvale in Brighton. I don't know how it came there, but they've been making bank. We were going. Yeah, it was the first one, like, yeah. So I remember getting this shit. They're not hot at all.

32:20

Josh: So should we, um, with the Mad Men, should we go onto their website and maybe do something?

32:26

Mason: No, no, no, no, no.

32:26

Tommy: Let's do it old school. Let's go Dick Smith on them. Let's get in there, ask questions.

32:30

Josh: We don't have to do it tonight though.

32:32

Tommy: It would be good to just get it out of the way to have them.

32:35

Josh: Why don't we do it tomorrow?

32:37

Tommy: We've got a bunch on tomorrow.

32:39

Josh: What about straight after we do Runyon?

32:42

Tommy: Oh yeah, we could do that.

32:43

Josh: And then we can see.

32:44

Mason: It can be delivered.

32:46

Tommy: No, I want to go there. You want a full experience, and then we can do some Instagram stories, build some hype around it.

32:53

Josh: Great. I mean, yeah, it's, it's the, uh, the trip for firsts.

32:57

Tommy: It's a trip for firsts, and we're getting some edibles.

33:01

Josh: Uh, so what?

33:02

Tommy: Cookies?

33:03

Mason: Yum!

33:03

Tommy: No, not cookies. Gummies.

33:05

Mason: Sour watermelon gummies.

33:07

Josh: So they're all gummies?

33:08

Mason: No.

33:08

Tommy: Yeah, they're all gummy. You don't worry about the flavour because you—

33:11

Mason: Huckleberry.

33:12

Josh: What's huckleberry?

33:13

Mason: Pomegranate?

33:14

Josh: I want to pick the flavors.

33:15

Tommy: Some kind of pineapple. Anyway, so the thing is over here you can pick, like literally say, I just want to feel like this, and they're like, this one's for you. Okay, so, um, that's going to be great. Uh, sorry, Mum, it's happening.

33:29

Josh: I think it's fine. Your mum would get stoned all the time.

33:32

Tommy: Not anymore.

33:33

Josh: Not— I got a hot tamale.

33:35

Tommy: What, like one? Really? Yeah. Um, this will be fun.

33:42

Josh: Oh yeah, Gemma says, I feel like you keep glossing over all these firsts. We keep hearing about firsts. I mean, it's 97's first, first, firsts to tell, not us.

33:56

Tommy: Yeah, I mean, I'm not one to kiss and tell, but is Mr. 97?

34:02

Josh: It's a daily talk show. Hi@thedailytalkshow.com is the email address. If you want to send us an email, please do in the next 12 hours because in 12 hours time we'll be heading to a MedMen.

34:13

Tommy: Yeah, we will be.

34:14

Josh: And we'll do some Instagram stories. Today we talk show. See you tomorrow, guys.

34:19

Tommy: Yeah, jammer.

34:21

Josh: See you guys.
