conversation sometimes worth recording with Josh Johnson and Tommy jacket. It's a daily talk to everyone. Episode One a tank. TJ right. It's 6am in Melbourne. And where the fuck are you? I'm. I'm currently in London. And it is 9:04pm. It's still bright. Yeah, that's what I was confused about when we were getting the Uber to the Airbnb.
0:44
Yeah, I was asking the guy, when does it get dark? It doesn't get dark until after nine o'clock, and it's been like 30 degrees today.
0:52
Wow. That's, that's ready for London. I know, I've had such good weather in London. But how was your flight fact? If anyone's been watching and saying if you little Insta stories,
1:05
they would have seen you in luxury? Yeah, it was a so we used points to I feel like I have to preface it. Anytime you flying business class. First class, you need to preface it with the fact that used to be rich people do that. Like
1:22
Yeah, I think that man those some interesting people who were doing pretty well praise this. This is the first time we've got Brady is probably half a major why for me watching live. And you can say or in the video to explain the sort of technology were using it's sort of like Skype on steroids. You can say May I can say you you're in your car. It's still pitch black. But no. So we went from Melbourne, to Singapore, Singapore, to London, in the Singapore first class from Melbourne, to Singapore. And then Singapore to the London it's what they call this weight. Which
2:03
sort of double bed night on an airplane. Yeah,
2:08
I was told a few people that you were flying first. Yeah. And and told them that, you know, use points to do it. Yeah. And most of the people have been like, fuck me. How many points did he have? Say, like, how many books do you actually have to have to do this shit? It was like 350,000 points. So it's a lot of point. But we probably could have done because, yeah, yeah, if you look at it that way, we could have done a bunch of economy flights. But
2:38
my thought behind it is reward tickets are quite hard to come by, with a lot of airlines. So actually trying to redeem the flights is pretty hard. But the
2:50
you're getting the most amount of value if you actually book first class or business using it for economy. Isn't that great? When you can, like fly to,
3:01
you know, Europe or, you know, LA for super cheap at the moment? How many calories Did you consume lost in the air? It's embarrassingly amount, like you'd think that they would have some sort of, they'd be doing calorie counting for you. But there's literally like, there was, I think, for lunch I sent you just send you the photos, or was it too big of a file to go on an airplane Wi Fi?
3:30
No, I got it. I was disappointed that they and they gave you 100 megabytes of Wi Fi. That was shit. The Wi Fi was annoying, but probably a good thing because I don't need to be spending my whole time on a flight on Instagram. But you sent me some lamb shanks that you had yeah the lamb shank wasn't the highlight that but we had like you had just so much ridiculous food. But probably the I want to talk about the the shitty bits the sense of not the first not the first class he bids but just the the, the shit that happens when you travel. Just because I realized that people probably think I'm a piece of shit. If you're if you're listening and you have people listening in their car. There's nothing more annoying than JJ in London right now talking about it. He's first class flight which were really good. But I don't think it's having done business class having done Premium Economy. I don't wreck it. Like there's not enough of a difference with the different GC is everyone's a little bit nicer to you. Like you have a you know, rather than waiting for the toilet. They'll say Mr. Johnson, the toilets unavailable but we'll let you know. And they'll come and get you and just shit like that. Which is tap on the shoulder. Time to poo. Now
4:48
that's the title of this episode. But I'm but no. The problem that we had was
4:56
when before you go on You do realize that people in the car probably going to be more annoyed that you're focusing on the negative bits of flying first class know most people never fucking fly effects. It's not specifically the flight it was more just the cluster fact that can be travel. So we arrived in Singapore, we had a 16 hour layover I think was 16 hours. It was like we arrived at 4pm. And our flight was at 9am. And so we had an idea of going to a hotel, but we will book it will looking at the flights while we're on the plane. And they lay accommodation. Yeah, the accommodation and it wasn't that shape. It was like if you wanted to be close to the to the airport it was going to be like close to $300 which for for Canada with a long trip is a flying first class
5:50
people my parents who infiltrated first class or that they must have thought it was so we like I was asking the flight attendant about where stay and obviously like probably set them up with an unrealistic expectation of, you know, our sort of style, but we would have been happy with an Ibis but anyway so we we decided that we just sort it out when we we landed specifically on the they had an advertisement for a free tour that you can do with Singapore Airlines if you're flying with them basically if you've got a layover you can spend a couple of hours and I'll take you out on a bus which would sound sick right see so we we got to the we landed went to get our bags and we waited and waited and it didn't come around and this is how much of an amateur I am I've I fucking went around the world 34 flights I still can't get it right but on on on the flight that we're on even though it was a layover, even though like we were staying overnight they checked the bags all the way through to London
7:03
then the thing is, is that we only have the clothes that were wearing like we didn't bring extra clothes in our carry on we just had a miss checked so that was the first stuff up like he didn't cheat yourself. Yeah, have you done that? But though before would you assume that it was going to be checked or like that you're going to be able to get access to check back not not with that long of a layover I'd assume that you would get your bags yeah but but first class the whole services that they you shouldn't you shouldn't see your bags you should just the least amount of effort Yeah. Applied or so that's what first classes Yeah, but I think anyway, I think it kind of me the same thing would have happened but anyway, we ended up going
7:50
we ended up deciding Okay, we'll just go out and find that bus right so we go through customs get our stamp, you know, passport stamped. You go to the information desk and say hi whereabouts is that bus and that he says it's actually in before you go through immigration. And if you've gone through, you can't can't go
8:13
fuck off. So why couldn't you go back through Can't you just what lineup well, so this was the thing he was and we probably could have pushed back. But what we ended up doing was we went through we went out of the airport. I don't even know we actually didn't go outside. We stayed in but went up a lift to get into
8:36
departures because we were in arrivals when into departures went through security, again, clean immigration. But at that point we Bray with we haven't even spoken about praise food poisoning we mentioned on the last episode. But Bray was still feeling shit house. So the big thing with flying first class which might marshy who will gotta get on because marshy is like a points hacker. He's He's amazing at all of this stuff. And he was telling me one of the good things about flying with on the suites is you get what's known as access to the private room.
9:14
So the private room is like, basically we got this invitation without boarding pass when we left Melbourne. And they said you can use this in Singapore and you go to the lounge and then they walk you past the first lounge then the business lounge then the first class lounge and then there's the private room and they have like a chef that's cooking all the time with like, a menu and all that sort of thing. But what I thought it said the 26
9:46
so the 27th that would have access to it. But this was the 26th because we obviously was it was still the same day wasn't the next morning but they but they let us in and so we like it's so bad. Like normally you'd think someone would be in a lounge or whatever or like the private room for maybe three four hours five hours we were there for 16 hours just Ray was gone did you become friends with the paper whoo with a they were all quirky characters so like we felt a little bit out of our depth but there's there's this American dude and he was like what would be shaking your head why you're shaking your head
10:35
well I guess we went out of that day because of the out of the dip
10:38
or you know just normal people but but there was on board with the monopoly man
10:44
we weren't we weren't on board with them and Napoli man we can confirm we were but no
10:50
matter how did she made like someone who's on board within monopoly. Like as in there wasn't a man with a top hat like that we're real people know. But that would just there was there was this one guy who was
11:04
who was eating and he was like,
11:07
everyone speaks loud like it. The one thing with lounges is everyone all the older people on FaceTime, they haven't worked out but you can use headphones and they're all talking really loud. And you've got like, you've got a half a dozen people who are all doing it like they're eating their food. And there's one guy and he said all of that he's talking to his kid or Oliver Oliver. He's American Oliver I can't I can't see you Oliver. I shouldn't do the voice and then he's like he was like oh do you think do you think he's mad with me to Oliver
11:41
I'm only gone for a week
11:43
Oliver I'm gonna buy some clothes while I'm away all of our all like it was just the class that he was so it was just amazing that he was just like straightaway going to he's gonna buy his kids so I would have been nervous I would have been over there talking to him Did you talk to any other people were not allowed so Bray was at Bri was missed opportunity made business business you know mingle is working. I don't know, the same month there was I mean, we'll just tell at telling stories in our head on what all these people were doing who they were. Why that, you know, I love doing that. And so, what's the what's the rules? Can you actually milk it for a 16 hour layover? Yeah, ball. So we so you arrive, you get a menu you were telling me like I was sending you some links or some photos of the menu when we're on the plane and you're saying that there was some fancy booze there and we actually ended up on don't carry on? Yeah, well, when we were on the the flight from Singapore to London, we ended up drinking fair bit and I don't know I don't normally drink but now I had I would have had like two glasses of wine wine and two glasses of red with the crew I just asked a really nice one I was just like because you could tell that they were really wanting us to have that experience like when we like I'm not sure that like have it have it like really pushing it on us but no so the menu you can just pick from the menu whenever you want when you're in the private room
13:18
and but Bree was knocked out because she was she had a food poisoning she was just sort of coming off that she hadn't she didn't vomit after leaving Melbourne which was great but we went to a pharmacy and she got some medication and just knocked her out she went straight to sleep so I was just there with her knocked out I just was eating just like ordering stuff and just like the jockeys and stuff in the like all this really nice sweet for so just just to touch on it Ross came out through and said have you ruled out pregnancy with Bray yeah bright we can roll out premier room at pregnancy
13:56
yes hundred percent he can yeah God
13:59
can we confirm that that's not the Singaporean drugs that were given to you to gastro that was actually a baby. No, that's not the case. I think like do you shoot yourself when you're pregnant as well now the pros but like do you get Do you get a sore tummy as well so now maybe you can just perpetually seek if you've got morning sickness? Yes. You're constantly feeling horrible. It would be like Elena I saw a woman recently that I know she has been vomiting for 12 weeks for morning sickness safe to say it's not so just she's not breaking yeah not pregnant. We can the room is the daily talk show. rumor mill has been going crazy on that one I show
14:43
but no. So I was I was eating so much. But
14:49
yeah, I didn't know I I'm just uh, I'm glad to be on because it was probably 4040 something hours of just transit luxury. But so you you've touched down now I can see in the background there's like, is that a stuffed bird? Have you touched that bird? I know for the stuff but yeah, I think it might be a stuffed bird. Yeah. So you're in an Airbnb in London. Where abouts in London? whereabouts in London now we break waste London
15:14
East London
15:16
has been described as like the Fitzroy knee way where Hackney when he hacked me lovely and and and so what's the experience like you rock up yeah so Wendy mates Jeff you know so you had john is now Airbnb guy. But we close I nearly got it. Do you get it? But no, we we arrived in Heathrow really easy to clear. I don't know what it is about a hater. I feel like I have a meltdown. every seat like it's sort of a rite of passage. Whenever I go to Heathrow I have a slight meltdown. I think that it's because the I'm always going to London when it's a when there's like a heatwave. So that's one thing. It's always the one Ivan's also always trying to get my SIM card working. I remember when I saw, I saw a friend in Heathrow yesterday take a photo and he just wrote on it fuck Heathrow. And it was the it was the exit the immigration, whatever it really do. You know what I'd like it was just busy. You got through, you got through a bit. It was just crazy busy. Well, we were lucky because we had the fast track last time I mentioned it, but it was it took us to do she's going through the fast track while eating a steak.
16:33
So we on a Segway
16:36
I was actually what you do get to a point because the older people like the one thing that first class does to is, all of a sudden your expectations go through the roof. So I was sort of, there's a part of me that was saying, people get getting wheelchair head off the clock in from first class, like all the people that were getting like the full treatment wheelchair. And there was a part of me, which is waiting. I want to rock up so I can sit down. But the ya know that. So getting the SIM card getting the SIM card. I don't know what it is. But last time have a few times ago when I was with my mate. Nice. And I had a slight meltdown on the rental car bus. You know, you get a bus to get the rental cars. I remember. Just like,
17:23
I can't remember I said. But I just remember swearing and those kids there. And I was embarrassed at my actions. But anyway, it wasn't that much of a meltdown. Was it break? How do you describe what I was like? At the airport?
17:36
I can't. There's no words. No
17:38
words. I know. I just literally it's not that bad. I just got a sweaty back. And I just made the fish and just a bit short. Yeah. bit
17:47
short, snappy. And you go read. And you just focus like you just stare at your phone. You sort of getting you just zone out, I suppose. Is the words.
17:55
Yeah. What do you like CJ. When you travel to dance much.
18:02
I have had meltdowns. But now I'm okay. I just my problem is when I've got bags to carry. It makes me fucking. So I get really annoyed when I'm uncomfortably walking with lots of bags. Yeah. And we obviously have a golf cart carrying it
18:20
to be carrying the bags. Yeah. And so there isn't any anxiety. I think if you would have flight, I think about if I could flying first class. Is it? Is it this because I can confirm now that I have a friend that's dominant, do you is that anxiety of carrying anything? Or like having to get through or waiting? Is that all gone? Because I think that will fix it for me now. I think they're pretty. They're pretty. They're really good. Singapore Airlines were like, amazing. But there's still definitely
18:52
you don't get told everything. So we would have been nice to know about the high I think what I was probably expecting is they would they would have asked, okay, where are you going from here? Or something like, I don't know, like we arrived in Singapore. And it was we sort of were left to our own devices, which I feel like what I was expecting was for them to communicate like he's the he's where you go, Well, this is the bus type of option. But interesting. And so what time did you arrive at the house where you are now? So we arrived only an hour ago. So we arrived, it would have been What's the time now? So yeah, we would have arrived around 8pm. Can I have a guess how the conversation went with john? We haven't even met john yet. So I haven't. No. So john sent us a an Airbnb message. He had something come up. So he left the key and nobody caught a bit with somewhere on the car. And he used some car terminology was wasn't the wheel is neither. We
19:58
don't know what it was. But he was that it took us a little while to find it on the on the car. It was just some I can I see. Can I see an English flag out the window of where you are? And I think you can see it's like a huge stars. It's Yeah, it's the, I think it's a European Union maybe. And so John's very passionate about the,
20:20
the whole Brexit thing as in, he hates all the shift that's happening with Brexit, you obviously wants them to stay in the European Union. So I guess that's a way that you can show you support, which is interesting. There's, there's your first big gear with him first conversation. Yes. And but how long did you find the Wi Fi pad? Yeah, bypass. The Wi Fi is great. He gives you gives us you a manual with all of the details, which is nice and handy. But the thing is, man, it's the London just isn't set up for this hate. So it's like if he's very, very hot right now. It shuts itself. You would jump up now. I mean, a T shirt. I will. The problem was I wasn't a jumper for for a long time. Bruce just taking Bray. What are you taking a picture of
21:05
Turkey that we got on the flat China give it to a friend. So Bree,
21:09
so they get sad perfume on the first class. Yeah. So that's one thing that you do get is you get like these. Yeah, I could candle one. perfume and all of that sort of stuff. And so you wear pajamas. pajamas on straightaway when I got there.
21:27
Can you not be one of the guys that where's the pajamas around as it as it is it you're a brand network now or a band? getting the full use of your first class experience? Well, I've got that it's not like the classic because I feel like when you think about the people that were they were the quants ones which are very obvious these feel like they're a little bit subtle but they would be good probably winter attire you wouldn't want to wear them in the summer but um, yeah i mean you may say you
21:57
might it's been 48 hours and and i said i'm
22:03
not it's actually really fucking depressing saying you might
22:08
going through something like this Well that's
22:10
the funny thing is it's like really he's really really enjoyable. But I think what what people forget is you still even in the best situations little things happen and you just need to like get perspective straightaway and like really get to gratitude because you can be like how am I getting upset that my SIM cards not work it like no joke The reason I was getting or heart was because I was they said that you get a bonus 10 gigs of data and I only have three geek and the guy wasn't being very helpful
22:43
because we see how rich people can be out of touch yeah because it yeah it's just the same the same behavior will translate throughout doesn't just mean that you will be there are so thankful for once you have everything well some people will just used to it right like the there was a like they're very good at getting drinks and stuff like that. But people like the guy who was saying Oliver Oliver he was he sat down say Could I get to two slices of lime in sparkling water plays I just thought thought
23:16
it was such a specific thing to ask breeze nodding her head what do you what we can say
23:20
and then I don't know if you were there but he then also asked if he could have a small sample of almond milk and soy milk to take a board the flight well
23:33
by thinking had issues with dairy that's why
23:36
okay yeah yeah I didn't hear about a lot of people there's a lot of people have issues with dairy as well yeah so i think that i mean that that is definitely the thing that is nice is that there are people who are if you have like there was so nice to break break talk about what what was your experience like having food poisoning talk us through beat by bait the from Melbourne to when it was all all over for you
24:04
so I was completely vomiting and everything
24:07
yeah I'm gonna put my headphones on so Tommy I'm going to put the headphones on brace so she can hear Tommy and so tell me feel free to ask any questions or anything like that but So Brian you thank god Josh is going
24:21
to see you may now Bray
24:24
Yes. feeling much better now. I'm sorry. You look much better. just sent me a photo and I said that that look like Amy. The whole entire honeymoon that we were on. You look so sick. I was so sick. So from it was Monday was Monday night was Monday night, wasn't it? I was having dinner at my dad's place. And all of a sudden I decided to really sick and then just started vomiting like terribly and so that day Oh, I pretty much had was a banana smoothie. And then I had a sober noodle salad, which I basically like show down my throat within five minutes. And I thought it was that well, I thought maybe it's because I ate so quickly. And that's why I was feeling that way. But I don't think so. So anyway, from there, I then had to go from my dad which is in Barrick Um, so that was like, what, 30 minutes from our house where we're staying. And then I also had to drop my car and packing him at my mom. So I was already vomiting and seek and I had to drive to my mom's house and package them to drop out car because that's where we Geez, keeping our car while we're away. Got to my I just want to vomit. I just want to vomit for having to do that.
25:36
Oh,
25:39
it was so bad. And then my poor mom, like I got to a house. It's like last time I'm saying my mom before we're going away. And I'm just walked through the doors have to go to the toilet. And just like, Oh, no, that poor thing. And then left her house. And then dad came with me. My dad drove me back in his car to that place will staying at so that I could leave my car there and then got Harmon was just vomiting and just terrible. And then by that point, I hadn't even cold and told Josh I was feeling on. Well, because I just felt so she ish.
26:12
And then basically I was supposed to pack that night and I sort of laid everything out on the bed and just couldn't do it was just absolutely vomiting the whole time just didn't stop. So it went from just back for, you know, I know. He sort of said, or what do you want me to do? Is there anything I can do? Can I help you? I'm saying like, he asked if you packed for me. He couldn't pack to me. Really? I did offer to like, I went and got like a paper towel to clean up. Praise vomit. Yeah, yeah, no, no, there was a point where I vomited. And I was in the bathroom. And he sort of kept trying to come and I said, Do not come in here.
26:52
Because I just didn't want him to say me. And then he still came in. And then I had vomiting on the floor, which was disgusting. It's just a real point. Cuz she was going to the toilet because it was coming up both ends. So she's sitting on the toilet, and she vomit. Thank you. Yes. So I was like that it's better to go that way. And so he came in, and then I was trying to claim the vomit from the floor to your listeners. I'm so sorry. Because this is you should put some sort of warning at the beginning of this. And so then George cleaned up my vomit, which was just
27:27
fantastic and disgusting. At the same time. I really, really appreciated it. So my concern was that it was not food poisoning because I've actually spoken to doctors and they say that you can't tell other than how long it lasts for sometimes you actually don't know whether it is food poisoning or gastro because it can be like a 24 hour bug. Or it could just be food poisoning. But they can't tell.
27:51
Yeah, well, I I still don't know what it was. Because I was pretty much for meeting up until about I think 5am The next morning
28:00
and I just gone to bed like I gave up on packing caught up at 330 in the morning to pack
28:07
and then after that, I sort of felt okay, but I've just was nauseous pretty much the whole time. Couldn't eight on the first floor.
28:14
Well, Josh has been going from both ends, but just because he is himself stupid on the first class flight. Yeah, he did. He did. I haven't been at the problem. Actually. One thing about all of this food, you eat all of this food,
28:29
not only the other problem was that there's not much fiber. So I've eaten all this food. I've taken one like tiny little shit, so it's all just sitting in me. It's disgusting. No, it's it's because of flying. Flying makes you constipated.
28:47
But I was so good aboard the Singapore Airlines Flight like I was worried to tell them that I was feeling well because I thought maybe that we're going to think it was contagious or something but they sort of kept asking me about one to two eight and I end up telling the a is just that I thought really on wow and she was just like she got me a hot cup of water she got me to she's like straightaway got me a blanket and then she was like oh I can get you some medication like that was so lovely. like pretty much talked me in there were feeling a head like temperature yeah they kept feeling my feet back oh he's going to fade like sir lovely because I got the shakes like I was shivering and stuff and I kept going into these things where I was like freezing
29:28
and that was so yeah, it was awful and they was so lovely. Like I wanted to hug her at the end I almost felt like I had a mum on board it was nice and it was the same when we got to the lounge that was so lovely It was a few people have said to me Oh what a shame in a waste of first class bidding away I'm like well if I'm going to be see it like it's a good place to be sick because they really just looked after me which was really nice yeah we justified to ourselves we said when we spent $20,000
30:00
and I mean he was sick the whole time we said well would rather be sequel overseas in in Greece on an island versus being sick at home in Melbourne in the cold winter yeah well
30:12
we make it work make it work and I got to enjoy the second leg of the flight to you know to its full by having all the food and all that and had a couple of ones with Josh say that was good LA LA and I have fancy there we go alright this is Bray story. Thanks for here.
30:30
I'm just putting their headphones back on we so yeah, it was a it was a great experience. All that you know what, before we go one thing that what is always awkward is they people asking about whether we're married or not. And I just like
30:46
bright red. Sorry, read when I was asking him evolve as he's Why?
30:51
Because the reason that I went red was because they they didn't say they didn't say
30:58
Are you married? They said you're married.
31:02
Okay. So it put me in this position where he sort of said, How long have you been together for like 10 years? I'm married for 10 years. And I didn't know that. You know, like in Dubai. You have to
31:15
you have to be married to be in a hotel. See your wife? Yes. No, you have to be married to be in a hotel room with someone of the opposite sex. It's like it's a lot. So if you go to Dubai, you can't be just boyfriend and girlfriend. It's always husband and wife and so when in Singapore when we were on the fly and he was doing that whole like the married thing Oh yeah, of course you're married I didn't know whether it was some legal requirements so I was going with it and I was like fogging up Mike my glasses world folks up and then at the end of the fights it I just found out that you guys aren't married I was just like yeah I'm so sorry was big Oh no. See this is what you own it from the start Josh or it makes it more we have basically like we have like everything but the wedding I
32:06
are endless and the actual legal binding of the relationship okay alright so down it's going is it going out tomorrow amazing man I saw the I just had a quick squeezes the inbox there was a bunch of people who asked for them. So thank you for organizing. So what do you reckon?
