It's the daily talk show and it's Monday the What is it? The fifth Feb Hey Tommy Hey man Epstein. Yeah, we are five EPS off going hashtag going public hashtag coming at from the darkness of the web yet
0:17
to be in people's ears. How are you going? Yeah, have you in those days? It's like fact you can snowball into a shit day can't you? Like you said one thing start. Yeah. And then you can just feel how your mind really wants to take over and go not your day is done. It's a piece of shit and it's gonna get worse. Yeah, but you try and battle it.
0:38
I saw I could have had one of those days because I just couldn't wake up this morning. I said I can't I need eight hours of sleep. Yeah, I and I went to bed at like I went went to bed at like 930 fell asleep at midnight fuckin annoying So anyway, I put my alarm on 630 and God and I
1:01
got up at half past 20% there's nothing worse I left my bag at home it was like basically which you I work in fact this so I left my I took the banana and the two cans of tuna though sounds em
1:19
managed to get those on Mr. Jim gear and then got to work and said shit my work is at high minutes to finally go back so I'm going to just going home after this
1:29
you have there's some people that just fucking self sabotage Yeah, the know was a any bit of you that was self sabotaging. Do you think on
1:38
this day? I was tired this morning. So it's like, I think so. But I had I had drinks on the weekend I had maybe 10 beers across the hallway. Fuck off.
1:46
10 years. Not that much. I met really how many calories per I don't give a shit it's not
1:52
what I'm going to give it 150 calories. A beer. So there's like a boy you had more sorry. Totally mindset. Like
2:02
so much.
2:05
You
2:06
know what I'm saying? So
2:10
that's really Macedo but is that what you did as a PE t such a fat kid? yes we've discussed you being affected PT before and you doing a bit of it your mindset
2:22
now I'm talking about alcohol affecting your mindset and I think it's like what could snowball snowball no more no more we enter this is having a slightly fragile mindset after drinking like I wasn't I wasn't wasted are going to be demo definitely does. Right. And you totally I feel it. I feel just a bit scary. But it's totally what I was feeling all the early days of my life that I'll do this and I'll drink twice as hard as I do now. Because I can I'm gonna buy be you know, can't be because you're eating or something I'm breastfeeding. So there will be hundreds of thousands of people out there in Melbourne today and across the world that are feeling beat Sookie and that's why I think it's like a 20%
3:10
added emotional state that's not really required. It's only been induced by this alcohol. Is it is it good or bad? Like it's a bad stuff. That's a bad state. I think. And I'm and I'm hyper aware of the internal state going on within me. So I'm thinking about a lot and maybe you just think I'm tired, you know, but it doesn't come out. How does how does show itself or
3:34
no, I think it's just you know how like some days and new experiences and you don't even drink but it's like some days your mind can get the better Yeah, you're willing to just let that fucking lizard brain Tiger over it.
3:46
I think there's just that lack of control a bit on that party. Brian that's like you sheet sheet of what you do, you know, like a show. And so that just creeps in a bit. I think it's I definitely think it's the alcohol because it's the only thing that I can. How do you turn that around? Is there something is if you guys you got to do that. Like I'm trying this morning. Have to? Yeah, otherwise it just be so feeling that you have is the same feeling that I have when I eat shit. Yeah.
4:12
If I eat like really badly, and you can either sort of counted is Yeah. Like, I've that was a thing. I've done that thing. And now I'm like, focused on now. Because that's the thing like you you work out like, only need to eat good for one day back. Yeah,
4:32
it will. I was saying that to you. This. I met Craig. However, if he opens the door, he's gone with bad food. So he just now restricts it out. And then he might have a cheat day every now and then. But some people can't do it. Yeah, it's like it's like the
4:49
maybe they aren't an alcoholic. But they definitely have
4:54
disorderly behavior around alcohol.
4:57
Yeah and so they know that if I open the door that get absolutely wasted but then so they just don't go near it or it's like if you're drinking when you're sad or shit like that then it's going to heighten that emotion
5:08
so anyway
5:10
enough about that how about the fact that I went to the gym on Saturday yes be speak those huge
5:16
yeah and you've already said I want to do something every day can i which I think is the problem with most people it's like they start at the gym you know something every fucking day you know the thing that's I'm fight like I'm
5:31
going to the gym I could have been anxious wasn't that anxious the most the thing that I was most anxious about was the fact that I just said are you just let you just leave the way you tell me what to do and all that sort of thing we arrive at the entry and you said I came out just come walking with me that made you know that was so I was like okay like in my mental thinking a moment to like sign something I meant meant to be paying here and I was like look we haven't really spoken about it so I'm comfortable then you see one of the managers at the cafe and the first thing you say is are you just snap Josh and he didn't pay so at the gym where where I go you either have to have this annoying conversation where you like sign up and they'll probably ignore you on the phone another day you know every fucking Jim
6:21
yeah but this system is a failure because you can just walk straight past
6:27
I don't know if that's a fact like I don't know if that's a you could say the same thing with like I picked up some strawberries from calls walked out didn't pay
6:35
his shows that bad it's bad what you did yeah
6:38
I didn't feel good about I was a constantly you know like I was being watched by securities
6:43
is a guy who is saying this but will eat a gripe in the car I
6:48
wouldn't do that
6:49
you know what I do say when I see people walking like I walk past and grab a piece of fruit need it yeah I just say out loud so that
6:58
your project get ignored every Thomas I saw that
7:03
so he did that I remember specific just like being a lice run early family around timing. I think that you ready there were griping family or knows griping family
7:16
do you have to be that can you just come in like saying you're a great painting family makes it seem like every time you'll be there you later gripe you just like coming in and out six months ago I had a gripe today 1812 months time I'll let me grab your gripe eating family did like eg have to be sanctioned today if you're willing to do it at all yeah
7:41
then you are a great job directing you saw your parents do it Is that why you're so company? Yeah it's also depends on I'd be comfortable with a gripe Asia if it seems like they eating it to try before they buy if it's like a you know, Jamie Jamie? All of it. Did a bit of it all on. Yeah, I like these ones. I'll try that. That seems ok. Not what about the big long fact? No, you can't do that. So I
8:09
was young I grabbed it not it was a macadamia with honey code. You honey coating. And I did like a honey roasted. Yeah. And I broke my feeling off my truth. You know what? Yeah.
8:25
Says me, right? Yeah, absolutely. And if the you've been having other issues today with you, if I can find it.
8:34
Why don't even get into it. Because it makes me anxious, creative business rider they have if I have a creative business that you can see other people are getting anxious based around the customer service I'm providing. Please tell me Yeah, please pull me up. Because that's exactly what Telstra is done. They've been the worst customer service. Long story
8:56
short, three, three months ago you ordered the iPhone phone? 10 Yeah, one of the fucking early people to do it very much the day it came out. And
9:06
basically you organized a pickup solution where you're picking up from the South Melbourne store yeah and you're doing a trade in your old phone was going to be in that you can pay 150 back difference. And what's happened is they lost the phone the warehouse and the store so there's no like you being a dodgy fact where it's like you've signed for something and like it's you could not have done that and they're being fat heads and they're saying what they're saying until we find the phone we can't really do anything exactly it's been three months my phone three months in
9:38
a radio show about I've been handled around 50 times at to tell the same story 50 times here's the thing though. The takeaways processes within businesses getting in the way of customer service. So sales strategy know what's going on. But they've gone down here in terms of customer service. Yeah, and their processes are or, well, we can't just give you a new one. And we'll find that because if we do that, you'll be charged thousand dollar exit fee. But and that's where you got to step in. And like, I think you've been too much of a soft talk about this. I've said I came up with solutions and I've handled and and send them to the right. But what I'm saying is their processes like well, we can't just we can override this and
10:24
write it like I think that well my whole approach to all these things is escalate as soon as possible. Yeah. And we did today we did a tweet. And finally, like, I don't know if that's the reason I like to think it is but if they're finally fucking sorting in it, because the thing is that it's I mean, I love a good escalation. I'll tell you Yeah, you Josh is the king of show I told me I've got three escalation stories
10:49
I'll just what's the highest level of escalation that came out Oh,
10:54
okay I'll do this right so one that I loved was Pacific health health club dot com that I bought and then wrote the whole story about how they fucking screwed me and then they basically gave me my cancellation 200 I basically held them hostage so so you wanted to cancel your gym membership? I yeah. And I was using and the gym the gym membership was part of we got a deal as part of our apartment block. And what we were told by the fucking sales dude was you can cancel when your laces up. Okay, go to cancel like, No, you can have to pay like, $100 fee. Like $150. Ah, awesome. Shit, right? It was like a couple hundred bucks for brain. Yeah. And yeah, so I thought I ended up spinning. So what I did was I first said, Hey, I want you to wave this fee, blah, blah, blah. They're like, no, the sales guy didn't work there anymore. So there was no recourse.
11:53
But then I said, if you do this, I am going to spend $200 on Facebook advertising, telling everyone what happened. And they said, Well, you know, would prefer if you didn't do that. So I did that. You straight up. I spent 200 bucks. And then not only that, I was like, I didn't get a reaction. So I was thinking more and more like, I just want them to give me at this
12:16
point. You 200 bucks out of pocket. Yeah,
12:17
exactly. And you try to get 200 bucks back from them. Exactly. So then their website was South Pacific. Ah, si.com. Like for health club? Yeah, like, you fucking idiots. South Pacific health. club.com was available.com. So I bought it and.com is a lot easier. than.com, w.com
12:39
data, you need to be able to have a business that sort of registered that would be connected to that. Yes, I'll be legit. yeah.com didn't have to worry about so anyway. Yeah, did it or South Pacific health clubs made a made a website just on WordPress with my experience. Yeah, I
13:00
gotta call my Ok. Ok. Will do deal. So they called you based on the website being out had it? Did you notify them of the website going live? Yeah,
13:08
but yeah, yeah, I did. I'm sure I did I did you spend on advertising that man? Well, I think I just called them I said, Look, I'm really disappointed. I've set up a website so everyone can know forever. And I'm going to SEO the fuck out of it. So people get when they type in. Because I know too. I could rank for South Pacific health club. So when people type it in, it would be the first thing that came up. So I did that one. Another one that I did enchanting. And they just what? They waive the fee, or they gave you money back. They gave me the $200 back. But I'd already condition you had to. Yes, yes. And so I was having an airing band. Like, look, did they write it down? Was it in an email? or? Yeah, probably. I could probably pull it out. Yeah, they push it up. All right now. Yeah, I would have an email. Okay. Another one. The toaster. One that I liked was I was there was this loophole where they were doing double data, right? So if you paid for one gig of data, you would get to gate and all that sort of thing. This is when like the max, you would sort of get his tool to give data or whatever. Anyway, what you could do is you could get a low plan and then just add it add a data pack, right? So rather than Normally, if you wanted to six gig plan, you'd have to go on the hundred and $50 plan or whatever. But what I want when I read online was you could go on one of those like $30 plans, and then add a six gig of data pack which would double the 12 gig. It was an interesting like 70 or 80 bucks anyway, I read online that the loophole was being like that this was a loophole and that they were honoring it so I opened a this Telstra account, like
14:49
set up a phone contract. Yeah, and they'll sort of I mean in Iran at the Rovell store and I said no this is the way it is blah blah, blah. And I said I printed it out the article were like the Telstra spokesperson had said yes it was it was do this we can do this they're like our look anyone could print that blah blah blah. Anyway they said oh yeah. Can anyone set up a WordPress website as yeah the shit out of it got telstra.com no so i i they said I look what we can't do it within our system, but will sign you up today and then come back in a week and we'll be able to sort it out because we'll be able to speak blah, blah, blah. I came back I signed up to the contract came back and I said sorry, we can't do it. Oh, and I'm like, fuck these guys. So what I did was I found the Telstra spokesperson and the reason I remember this story is because he liked one of my LinkedIn post last week
15:41
he was the head of communications advisor for Telstra and he'd been quoted in that article and he'd also communications people when they put out press releases they'll put in their phone number right forum for media to contact them so your phone yeah so I called him
16:02
I said hi you know my name is Josh this has happened you quote i i actually mentioned your quote and they're not honoring it blah blah blah he sort of that for me know so I had that one in the final story which got me in the the age and MX mag was this was Facebook when you could be like granular advertising you could advertise to basically individual people right yeah it's so many settings that I could say people named Tommy living in St Kilda who like
16:33
are you telling you giving everyone my exactly
16:35
who likes for is being co right and I know that that's the only Tommy and St Kilda who would like that page? Yeah, so I can do so you could do those sort of granular things. I had this situation where I bought a product, it was avid, you know, like avid, the editor? Yes, I got an inbox which is like for plugging in musical instruments or microphones. I got it from b&h in the States, got it shipped to open to that turned it on it was fact it wasn't working contacted
17:06
b&h and they said it's fine, we'll be able to sort it out for you. Blah, blah, blah. He's a number anyway, long story short, avid said that would be able to sort it out in Australia, which was great. Then 12 days went by not being calling like every third day to try and work out what was going on. currently unemployed. Yeah, or self employed. Whichever way you look, tell me and they basically at the end they said sorry, we've actually realized we can't do it. I'm like, No, I've just spent fucking 12 days waiting. And you've said I would have gotten the US process done by now. So I created a WordPress like a blog post again, I got the inbox and I photoshopped flames on it. And I did this article about everything that happened in the end of it I said if you if you know the managing director, Director of avid, contact him now and tell him the story. Anyway, I put it up on Facebook as an ad targeting all people who worked at avid just them right. That's amazing. I had 20 click through in one night. So 20 people who worked at avid click through I had a Facebook message and an email from the managing director that day asking for my address so we could send out a brand new
18:26
post. You know how I'd said about the Telstra guy how he had liked one of my things. Yeah, this guy from avid is still like, this is the most senior person in Australia. And I realized a few years ago he'd actually deleted me off looking
18:42
so he must have thought I was the biggest fat kid like well and knowing him you either when there's a few things people can think insight fucking Monday hero. Yeah, or big we'd unit with lots of time on a bit of both. I believe there's a bit about that is it takes balls. So they know like I was speaking to T PG because I moved house and my internet. I changed the connection. All I wanted to do was send it downstairs. Yeah, there's no installation. Nothing. Sorry. The show that's going to be $100. I said. It's not going to be I'm moving downstairs have been with you for two years. I can go somewhere else and pay $100 to get a faster internet connection. Because yours is terrible. Yeah, but I'm happy to continue. And anyway, which is you just sound like a fucking little bit. If I see is they came at all? Yes, we can do $70 saved me know. $70. Yeah. About zero dollars. Yeah. And then they came back and said are well, could you sign into a 12 month contract, and we waive the fee? I move into a 12 month contract. I lay so yeah.
19:49
But it's like all the people out there that have been walked all over by companies. Because I don't think there's another option. You've got like, you've got to push I like it too. Like I've spoken to two different call centers in the last four days. hustling one of them Virgin Australia. Velocity last, my last my platinum status, right? Because I think I had told you this. Yeah, I had enough status credits, but I hadn't flown enough sectors, which basically means you have to, you can earn status credits when you fly, and New Zealand, Singapore, all these different airlines. However, they say there needs to be a minimum amount that you need to fly on Virgin Australia, I'd smashed the amount of status credits because I'd flown in New Zealand Premium Economy and stuff like that. But only flown six times on virgin in the last 12 months. You needed eight to get platinum. Yeah. Anyway, so I called them today and managed to get them to give me platinum, really, which is pretty like people struggle. And I think the key is the vision. Well, yeah, it's, I think it's about what I did. So this is my strategy. And I was like, Okay, I cold on. So my, the I lost my Platinum or the Platinum was up for renewal over the weekend on Sunday. I called them on Saturday, the department wasn't open. So I went, I basically got to the effect an answering machine, or like that response saying, Hey, we don't, we're not open today. Blah, blah, blah. So I did another coal? Well, I went through and went through to their booking people, right, because that was easy. And their, their Australian call center. Yeah, and I said, Hi, I was. So I changed the story a little bit to being like just inquiring about my platinum status to I'm wanting to book a flight, because I want to make sure that I retained my status. And I'm wanting to know whether I like if I have to do it now. Or if I could book this month, blah, blah, blah. And the person was completely under qualified to obviously, tell me about it. So that so I basically could talk them into we're a bit of a circle where they're like, yeah, you'll be fine. If you do it this month, you'll be fine. And so the calls recorded for customer service. And that's what I said. So basically, when I called them this morning, they said are no, like, you've, you've missed your period. Like it unless you have like, I know,
22:18
so I said to them, yeah,
22:21
you basically just give it all that sort of stuff. And then like I do, I do a bit of a hint hint of like, I'm gonna be booking a lot of flights. And the funny thing is, they said Are we
22:32
were not what they say, we're only doing this because the first time you're doing this, blah, blah, blah. However, I didn't tell them. But I don't know if you I don't know if I was with you. Yeah, we were in Brisbane, and I called chess I got, we are working in Brisbane on a shoot and we got to the airport, we realized that Josh didn't have status to get us into the lounge. And we have two hours to kill and we really wanted to go in there and relax, have food and so just jump on the phone and managed to get go. I ended up telling him how like I was which was all true. I was going to be flying business class to Fiji and I'd be getting it blah blah blah. And they gave it to me. Yeah, so I've been very and I know people who are especially like quantities and stuff where people have been like a breeze out boss would like fly business all the time like London like Melbourne all that sort of thing and she didn't get fucking cape at platinum and they didn't give it to it like they went hard but there was that one and then the other tactic was um i i net went over my
23:36
allowance of data allowance uploaded to me yeah
23:40
it's about how many you have a terabyte yeah had
23:43
a terrible thousand gigabytes of downloads and I went and yeah whenever so they went on a different strategy this time was like What did you want what was the What I wanted was I like they had slowed down my internet
23:58
standard practice which is so slow
24:00
and I don't do this much right so I call them this magical I just tell them for stories when I do do show
24:08
don't go over much So anyway, I called them and I was like she was a bit that the chick that I was dealing with was I could tell just a classic employee sales he just wanted like just trying to fuck me in every regard and then so I said to her I was like oh whoa where where are you from by the way and she said I'm at a call center were in South Africa in Cape Town which I which I knew and which was awesome because then I said I am I think writing all about the water issues the water crisis Do you know about the water crisis? Yeah,
24:43
it's leaking the city's leaking
24:45
Yeah, well, there they recommend like two months they're going to be out of water. And it's because Because why? Lately I didn't write enough I'd been writing all the headlines but they've been restricted to how much water they can consume like, in a huge way so she was saying so bad we can only do 50 liters a day blah blah blah and so I anyone and so we spoke no joke for five minutes about that and I said have like my issue same small now because there's something like is can you sort of help me out and she was a bit of a idiot anyway, but she ended up she ended up saying, look, yeah, we'll give I can I say, Can you give me 100 there? Because I'm like, I don't want to pay anything, and you've got to also like oversell things. I'm like I just don't have any money to be able to pay for this. You know, I can't I can't be spending any more money. Yeah, she's like, I look, I said, Can I have it was six days left on my plan for the month and I said, Can I can I have 100 gig please place and she said, Are you that's like $70 on my head. I have the 70 bucks Yeah. And she said I'll look into water and so she spoke to the supervisor came back got me 50 gig. I don't think that was necessarily may talking, I think necessarily helped
26:01
that talking you i into places I've done. I talked my way into the corners lounge or flying to LA doing your jaws land he loves. And here's the thing. I reckon this could work. So I actually legitimately had at home
26:15
in voucher. I reckon I just made this up. My friend was given just a voucher. It was just it looks like a business card. And it says, admit one to quantify, and you have to be flying with condors overseas to access it. Yeah, so I had my boarding pass for LA Baume flight and I was so hung over and it was like eight in the morning I got to the airport and I was like I have to get into this lounge and I walked out and I just said
26:42
one of the people in PR because that's who actually can give them out yeah one of the girls in PR gave me entry passed to the lounge and I've lifted at home yes oh sorry Is there any way I can come in I've got my boarding pass and as soon as straight out ladies they're just like issue and I went into smoothies are handing as you would fucking use an abuser they're like what's Tommy what's gonna happen like how much chases away I had? No, I was I was annoying let's damn well hang outside. Like didn't didn't go to town course. But I had a really comfy chair I could wipe the last minute when now avoiding the last bit overrated. That with hundreds. It's like the chocolate. Have you talked to your way in any way? Because you're quite a confident dude. When you're out like I think you can have you might be internalizing and feeling a bit worried inside. But you can definitely front is very confident. Yeah,
27:37
I've gotten into la Star Alliance, I'd lost status. And basically, it's just a willingness to bullshit a little bit or just like talk. And that was the longest one because it was Star Alliance. So it wasn't virgin directly. It was like one step away. So it was even harder. But Bray was probably asked side of the lounge for 40 minutes while I was talking, talking to them. And basically 40 minutes. Yeah, and I ended up getting in though, I think they just get in there. Just like, whatever. This guy's Yeah, well, that's the thing, right? And that's the willingness to be annoying. It's the willingness to be okay, with being affected by it.
28:14
So I tried it. I tried it recently, year in a bit ago when we're going out on our honeymoon. But they've just got like, blanket policies. Like if you're not flying business, you can't come in. Yeah, so that or if you don't have status, so if you don't have gold or premium, if you don't have any kind of status, you know, coming in, so they've got blanket rules. Now that cut out a lot of
28:35
they also the thing is that I see people trying to hustle the same way and they just don't know how to fucking do it. Like, you can tell that they go on practice. I saw a guy when we were flying to Fiji that I think it was his honeymoon and he was trying to get into
28:50
business class this is like our short of get out the front. Yeah,
28:54
fly in a seat. Yeah, it's not happening. Man. I know at bit he doesn't have he really like and you could hear the, the people like the hostess or whatever been like, Oh, sorry. Like, we need to keep them available. Blah, blah, blah. But I'm talking away What about outside of an airport? You've done it
29:13
even based in nightclubs. It's a big thing in night on the nightclubs space where are you pretty good at it Yes. See people like you know there's a massive line to bar and people just want to jump the line we did it overseas and it's probably a bit easier to Ozzie guys walking out there was a line around the corner hundred meters. And we just told them that we got this online TV show and we'd love to speak to the manager with faith you in the show and we said to strike through the back and we and we just party and then in Melbourne actually we we had I met this guy in LA who was friends with these big DJ Paul open open fall these like a big techno DJ all the schools is worth like $40 million or something I didn't know like I didn't really know his music yeah and he's got a huge cult following quad isn't all the dude but still just people love him. Anyway he's playing here in Melbourne and our friend from LA said come to the show I've got tickets on the door and we can go backstage and so my mom is sick and we went no tickets at the door and then we'll just like what would you may know it will be under like polls list or Dean's list these best night date Paul's best My dad was our friend yeah nothing here and so we just we're just going like we're at the front of this venue Festival Hall in New Zealand and should fucking venue the venue but it was good for your life like this is literally right and so within 10 minutes we just pay that I think they'll just annoyed a lot okay we can give you entry is some tickets as you can be sick is our hundred dollar tickets and so we're just not obviously they had known of someone's name Yeah, we must have been using right now. Yeah, so then we got in and then wife Danielle friend and then he was behind and anyway we got up the back wall behind the day jazz see
31:09
the one the one time I actually can think of is when there was a WordPress meetup here in Melbourne. You can see the difference now is always at a trance party Josh was that a WordPress meetup and and that sold out because there's a big deal because Matt Mellon wig the the one of the lead like developer of WordPress, creator of WordPress was in town speaking and I bumped into him
31:37
and we were talking and he said he coming tonight you hang on, you bumped into him. You don't
31:42
know this guy. No. Never made him before you've seen him online where we'd you bump into it?
31:47
Okay. I wasn't gonna go into the the craziness of the story but I know a lot of very brave he was trying to work out what WordPress he he was he was coming into the auto office where I wasn't working on right I was really keen to say him but he was meant to be in three o'clock and at 430 I had a meeting in South Melbourne inviter was in the city so I'm like fuck I can't wait a random I stopped walking to South Melbourne for my meeting as I'm crossing over the era the I say Matt Mellon wake walking towards me so I go man he stops unlike Are you looking for him? He says yeah I'm like I'm actually from there like just keep going straight turn right blah blah blah. That was all down I was like oh that was a fun interaction. But that was it had my meeting at work that goes for an hour come back to the city and the CEO my mate at invited colors is out the front with Matt Mellon and they're chatting in this anger by color says up this is Josh he works from Votto met mom says oh I know I've already met him I've just made before he was treating me like a rock star. And then he said are you coming to the WordPress made up I said I am don't have tickets because I'd been traveling just on my three month trip. I just gotten back he said I'll just mention my name at the door. Which is such a fucking funny. It's like the main person and WordPress is a small community. So I rock up to the WordPress event with all these people that I know at the door. And like Josh, you got a ticket. I'm like, Nah, I saw Matt Mellon we can. You just said same way like, Oh, I thought about
33:32
this. Oh, so they thought you're bullshitting. Yeah,
33:34
but I ended up getting in it. But then talking about how, you know, serendipity and all of this stuff. I ended up getting that mile on my on my podcast, right? Where I interviewed him and the way that I got him on was I was like I said to myself, I need to be able to ask a question at the question time so that we can have that like connection of a note like you know, sort of cementing I rocked up anyway. So I am I had a question which the key to this is, you should only have a fucking question if it's a good one. And it was a decent question asked him the question. And where I stood up, he said are
34:15
Hey, do you have a ticket to be here?
34:18
So perfect, right? Yeah, it's playing a joke. So which is what
34:21
does that
34:23
then he said, yeah.
34:26
He said, I actually just met him and blah, blah, blah. So after the event, he's getting swarmed by all of these fucking nerds. Yeah, basically, that's what they are you and I just being the six foot three nerdy? Yeah. And so on them to know. So I was like, all I wanted him to be in my on my podcast. So what I did was I sent him an email. Instead, I said, Hey, this is Josh, he led me into your event. I would love to have you on my podcast. Josh speaking. I can be flexible. I can record it wherever you are. Blah, blah, blah. He wrote back to me two days like that said, Hey, Josh, out of love to. I'm now in Sydney though, and I'm just flying to Auckland tomorrow. I said, Hey, Matt. No worries, happy to come to Oakland. And it was like Okay, and so we organized it was expecting that now I mean that people put up filters and barriers so that you don't so most people most fucking tire kickers weren't follow through true
35:29
and and
35:31
so you flew over how long from the time he sent the email? It was within like, three days you just jumped on a flight booked a flight with Qantas. Did you somehow get a free flight by calling it cost me like five this is the thing right? It cost me like 550 bucks. And so many people like would say fact what do you do it like I know that my parents at the time were like what are you doing? What are you spending that what Where are you going? Why are you going to Oakland like people don't understand that like I'm literally spending $550 to sit down with an hour with someone who is really coveted for interviews right like he doesn't just give interviews out so you can you only gave it to you because he met you in those chat. Yes I think that that plus my willingness to fly to Oakland The thing is I think I also under overstated how much he actually care that I was fine because like on the day he was sort of talking as if I lived in Auckland. Yeah,
36:30
well, it's never as much thought in his head. Is it? Yeah,
36:33
exactly. So you didn't have to do anything other than just rock up say yes. At his hotel room. Yeah. And so we had it we actually do that in the hotel library I think I like set up in there like I walked up to the Sofitel
36:49
it's a good hassle it's kind of like that work experience kid that just rocked up at my place looking for every spoken to him he never got back to me so
36:57
I think he got busy he got better office he went down the streets for
37:01
you totally are a hassle. But I think there's like speaking to Jules Lund, who have spoken about in this podcast yesterday. And he said I told him about this poker. Yeah, and and I just said the barrier to entry solo like few and I guess is half an hour call this up 10 minutes later.
37:20
Although this is the first fact and podcast where I just had to pause it twice. Yeah,
37:24
hopefully, because Josh wanted to make it sound seamless. But now is talking about the fact that we stopped this podcast to take some we don't normally do that, though. Yeah, because it's annoying. My point is so low to start a podcast. Yeah. means someone like jewels gets 10 requests a week. Yeah. To be on people's podcast. Yes. And so for you. You. How long ago was that? 1034? Yeah, that
37:48
was 2004 shows. No, no, sorry. 1414
37:53
still a while ago in the land of podcast? Yeah, absolutely. So that guy Matt, you would be getting flooded the dirtiest create WordPress
38:02
Yeah. Or a getting flooded to get an Oscar play on her right. Steal like an Artist, Best Selling New York Times bestselling author got him on my podcast. And he tweeted saying, I never do these. I never do podcast interviews. But Josh sent me the nice the same hour. And I can say no. And that's how he promoted it. So he was clear that like, he doesn't fucking do it. I think that the
38:25
ICU setting goals I've already like, it's one thing to write a few words. It's another thing to you think about this, like your internalization on that whole Matt thing? Yeah. Or, you know, if I asked question. It's a good one. Yeah, like a is that you're legit thought process? Absolutely. So because then there's, I think there's an element. I think I do a lot of that natural. Yeah, I don't think like you would, yeah,
38:50
but then there's people who could do your process, which is like, map it out, you know, you know, what's mapping it out, right? So it's this thing of like, it's mapping it on the fly. It's the serendipity of, okay, there's this opportunity. So I should do this, versus what most people would do is they would see the after party as the, and that could be a strategy. If I drank if I was someone who knew the best places in Melbourne to go to drink, I would put myself front and center in organizing where we're going to drink because I look like if I can, top dog but I know that that's not the game that I play. So if the game that I put in for me, the game that I play ease in that personal interaction, and
39:35
it's modern day stalking. Yeah. Without the illegal newness of it. I've done so it sounds like it and the pace car just sound interrupt I just a good radio stand.
39:47
I want you to try and get someone on this podcast of the out like someone who's worth, like people like, wow, because if you did it for your podcast back then. Yeah, we're 15 episodes in Yeah, surely by the time we've done through these, we could have a pretty big guests on the show. Yeah, absolutely. It's just shooting the race. It's ok. So I
40:06
guess and this is the thing we're not a fucking guest podcast. Know,
40:09
they come into our they're going to be chatting with us. Or we could literally be talking to them about do you. Who do you want? Ryan? I don't know. Yeah, I'll I'll think about it. But like, I know there's a few low hanging fruit we could probably get Kenny you shine. He's an icon. Australian. I call this I think that we may be cut my network like we don't do someone that's going to be a challenge where you're going to have to send a few emails. Yeah. Set up. Maybe a WordPress website. Someone who is across the board. Like so. It's not too niche. Like it's not like Matt do Vela who has the ground up show. Yeah. He's mentioned on most podcast. You
40:46
got a big crush on him. Yeah. He's he's trying to get fucking the rock. Yeah.
40:51
And I'm not gonna sit the challenge of getting something like the rock. But I think we can probably get someone cool. Yeah, I think we're 100% gets one cool. Networking is an interesting one. Like, the way you know, you're working reek of awkwardness. And yeah,
41:06
and when it sold in as it like, come to this networking event. I mean, that's for people who probably don't have the opportunities more than might the heads head space of the approach that you take. It's also about like, if you're going to, so there's a few things you need to be giving value. And if you're not giving value, you can't be taking away value. So you need to make it like there is a transaction that's going on. And what that means is it Well, there's a few elements. The reason the map Milan week thing worked is because we had a connection and that was in Bartow. And then from there, I was able to segment it with the, the other things that happened. So having a base having some sort of in will be make things easier. Yeah,
41:54
and I've done that thing also of knowing without be like it, you know, good bar, or, you know, a cafe without all you need is that exchange. Yeah, and it's just a Hello, it's just top of mind, and then dropping them and made a mouth. Yeah,
42:09
because if you've seen them, you've got a reason to them. Yo, hey, Sawyer. And so just to the other part of it is, sometimes you just want to connect with them, like you just like, hang on, we're really aligned, we should connect. And it's not about fucking trying to get something out of them. It's really just like, actually, I think that I can bring you value. Yeah, I think there's heaps of stuff that I can help you with. Yeah,
42:33
I definitely approach it like that. Creating video contents, like, as much as I know that they'll give me money at some point. But it's also like, you know, that you can create something awesome for them. And that's where they're winning. Yeah,
42:45
and that's the offering. So it doesn't have to be as much like, I'm going to, you know, lift this rock for, you know, and this and you know, that I'm going to come over and hit that rock for you. It's like, can be the exchange of what you do is going to bring them a lot of value. And that's what I think being a hybrid being at being not just a video person, but having other things to offer makes you way more appealing, because when I speak to a client, we end up speaking about branding about their website about startup culture, about HR, all of those types of things, which then leads into all eventually your video for them, but just being friendly as well. Yeah,
43:25
like real life business. Most of it is all around relationships. Do they like you? Do they want to work with you? Yeah, and that's the same with networking. It's, you know, for me, growing up knowing lots of people, people have moved on to businesses that could work for me, I could do something for them. It's like the same thing. It's an exchange, but it's all driven by being a nice person. Being a nice person. Honest, actually, honestly, making an iceberg. Yeah,
43:52
I thought that pretending to be nice. And that's what grossed me out about that fucking Art of Charm is it was like this idea that it is this step process. And if you dress up as a kangaroo that I can people start inviting you to cocktail parties. Yeah,
44:06
that's Yeah, that's my networking. fall short in your dress. Like kangaroo. This was different. This was another different episode. Feel like I do this every fucking time. A little retrospective? What? I've got some shit I want to bring tomorrow. And I'm going to think about that. Guest you put something on a talk to you about. It's some scary technology. What is it dark at night? Okay, Josh, when you say I want to talk about something, and I'll tell you tomorrow. He's hounding you. will be entertaining
44:35
enough. Please, please, please. This isn't you treat life like a fucking radio teaser. Stop trying to sell in tomorrow. No, but I want
44:43
to sell it tomorrow. Because it's something we I was gonna bring it up today. But we delved into how you stalk a lot of people online, he single handedly taken down because it says Well,
44:56
this is something that I wanted to talk about but didn't and we can talk about it tomorrow or just site it's doing business beyond your borders, okay, working with companies in other countries, having employees and other countries all of that sort of stuff. That's what I was being thinking about. So we can talk about tomorrow Yeah, it's the the daily talk show we're at the daily talk show.com and we're on iTunes as well and a big guest coming soon I don't know who will obey I've got some ideas but I guess it's it's you to decide right here. Ever. Have a great Monday, everyone. Bye.
