Sarah’s advice on the show

How should you prepare for a podcast interview?

Spend significant time researching the guest beforehand, keep a loose list of questions as a guide rather than a rigid script, and prioritise listening to the guest's answers over worrying about what to ask next.

How do you protect yourself legally when producing interview-based or crime content?

Always get guests to sign a release/waiver form before recording, and if a prominent guest refuses to sign, don't push it — simply don't have them on the show.

What's a common mistake people make when starting a podcast?

Have a clear plan and subject matter beyond just wanting to interview people; get some experience or point of difference first rather than diving in without direction.

The duck, the paintball range, and the Mother energy drink promo

Ep 477▶ 23:41

Sarah recounts a large SCA promotional stunt for Mother energy drink involving a paintball shooting range with a dark costume, the Peanut Gallery duo, and a giant inflatable duck floated on the Yarra River.

Walking the crime scene with the crime reporter

Ep 477▶ 37:46

Sarah describes visiting the actual site of an unsolved case with the show's crime reporter, inspecting the entry point an at-large offender used, with the victim's parents present at the house.

Getting scared doing true crime research

Ep 477▶ 53:07

Sarah describes becoming paranoid and fearful after reviewing graphic case files for a true crime podcast, including checking for intruders and worrying about an unfound suspect, leading her to limit her personal consumption of crime content.

The hot studio and the interrupting cleaner

Ep 477▶ 56:52

Sarah recounts an evening Zoom interview where the air conditioning shut off, leaving her visibly flushed on camera, and a cleaner walked in mid-interview to empty the bin, unaware she was recording with an overseas guest.
