At a glance

From this episode’s transcript.

  • –The final episode wasn't planned—Melbourne's snap lockdown announcement reshuffled the timing so episode 1022 became the last show.
  • –The hosts emphasise that the show's true legacy is the relationships and friendships formed with team members and the Gronk community, not the download numbers.
  • –Consistency was key: doing something daily removes much of the anxiety and pressure compared to producing one high-stakes piece of content.
  • –The show ran for over 1,000 episodes with 1.5 million+ downloads and 175 guests across three tumultuous years including COVID.
  • –Team members have next steps lined up: George Martin is joining Quad Lock for video production, and Jess Lucas has freelance gigs.

Questions this episode answers

Why did The Daily Talk Show end?

The hosts describe it as a mutual decision that felt right, unlike the roughly five previous times Josh had questioned whether to continue. The final episode's timing was reshuffled because Melbourne was re-entering lockdown, making episode 1022 on 27 May 2021 the last show.

How many episodes and downloads did The Daily Talk Show have?

The show ran for 1,022 episodes with over 1.5 million downloads and featured around 175 guests over its run from February 2018 to May 2021.

What is the story behind 3D Dyl and the squeegees?

Dylan Torreville, a Canadian industrial design student, emailed the show offering to fly 21 hours to deliver 3D-printed squeegees (an in-joke from episode 14). He came to Australia for a four-month internship, stayed with Josh and Bri, designed the show's logo, and later wrote a book called 'I'm Still Figuring It Out' for which Josh wrote the foreword.

Tommy: It's a very low barrier to get into the Gronkh Squad. That's crazy!

0:07

Josh: We've committed to do the Daily Talk Show for 10 years.

0:10

Tommy: Hi guys!

0:10

Jess: Hi guys!

0:11

Josh: Put it in the calendar. I'd just like to cheque the temperature in the room. I told you my squeegee story.

0:16

Tommy: It is outrageous!

0:17

Josh: Come on, let's go! Woo-hoo!

0:20

Tommy: Yeah! Hello Melbourne!

0:24

Josh: Yeah, we've done a live show. It's episode 1022. It's the last ever episode of The Daily Talk Show.

0:32

Tommy: And that's it. We'll see you tomorrow.

0:34

Josh: Actually, no, we won't.

0:35

Tommy: We'll never see you again. Welcome, everybody. Today is— it wasn't planned to be the last episode. As of yesterday, it only got reshuffled. Melbourne's going back into— are we ready?

0:48

George: Right to go.

0:48

Tommy: Right to go.

0:49

Josh: Right to go.

0:50

Tommy: Right to go. That's the new acting premier's catchcry. Right to go.

0:53

Josh: Which is what Dan Andrews—

0:55

George: Well, copied it off Dan.

0:56

Josh: Oh, did he?

0:56

George: That was a Dan thing. That's funny. Right to go. Right to go.

1:00

Tommy: Okay. Melbourne's going back into lockdown as of 11:59 PM tonight, which is Thursday. What's the date? The 20—

1:09

Josh: Well, you said it yesterday. You said the 25th yesterday, it was the 26th yesterday. Today's the 27th.

1:14

Tommy: So, the 27th of May 2021 is the last episode of The Daily Talk Show. Did you ever think about that being the date? No.

1:25

Josh: No, never. Never.

1:27

Tommy: I mean, to be honest, if we go back to episode 1, I think you forgot the name of the podcast.

1:32

Josh: Yes. Yeah, it was hard to remember back then. It was. But it sort of, it stuck a little bit. Anyway, we've got, we've got some nice emails that we've received. It's a celebration.

1:42

Tommy: And it's, and it's just gone midday. So, I've cracked out the, some fresh The Daily Talk Show big cups. And, um, have you seen about these? I'll just throw them around. Catch. And we're going to pop a bottle of prosecco. It's not going to be too loose because we're just going to have a—

1:58

Josh: Well, we wanted something in our, like I was saying to you, TJ, the legacy. This is going to be online forever. You don't want to be like, oh wow, that last episode was really bad.

2:10

Tommy: Would you take the whole thing down if one of us got cancelled? Because then that'd be—

2:14

Josh: Are you worried about getting cancelled?

2:16

Tommy: Not at all, dude.

2:17

Josh: No, no, no. What? So what you're saying is, say you get cancelled. No, we're keeping it all up. I think we'll be— I'll get to it. No, I can't imagine anything like that happening. So just after you pop the Prosecco, we have a message from Scooter Derek. We didn't ask anyone to do any video messages or anything like that. No.

2:38

Tommy: And we also didn't ask anyone around the podcast desk to have their laptop audio still on.

2:43

Josh: But George happened to. And he's rocking Apple Mail after everything you've been through.

2:48

Tommy: After every blowup you've been through with Josh, you're fucking still rocking Apple Mail.

2:53

Jess: Well, the Apple Mail.

2:54

Josh: Spark. Well, the Apple.

2:55

George: I want both.

2:56

Josh: Yeah, he's got the only guy that's got two email clients.

2:59

George: May I just say Spark, email client, email client. It's not very good, is it? What's the reason?

3:05

Josh: Yeah, it's got, it's got some issues. But can we tease at the end of the show, George will tell us where he's going next.

3:13

George: Oh, sure. Okay.

3:14

Tommy: That's a good, and Jess too, or no?

3:18

Jess: Jess doesn't have anything lined up yet.

3:20

Tommy: No. Well, you've just blown it.

3:21

George: Yep.

3:22

Tommy: All right. Hang on. I'll pop the Prosecco. Here we go. We can't lose our lease any more than we will.

3:29

Josh: The bond?

3:30

Tommy: Yeah, the bond.

3:32

Josh: Can they ask for more than the bond?

3:33

Tommy: Yep. Oh yes. That sounded good. Oh, that's okay. Water.

3:40

Josh: So TJ, whilst you do that, yep, Jess, can you press play on Scooter Derek giving a message, which he did in green screen, and I've just done a quick chroma key so that he— it's like he's in the studio. Go for it, Jess.

3:53

Derek: Hi guys, here comes my sincere message to you on your last week, maybe last day. Thanks so much for all the shows, I really appreciate it. I've got a great— as I've said many, many times, I've got a great deal. I've got to gain a huge amount from not only getting an idea of what millennials bang on about and what's on your mind, which is important as a father of people approaching teenage years. I've really enjoyed the community around it, not just your staff of recent times, relatively recent times, but all the grog squad of the community and all the different people, notwithstanding Ian. It's always interesting to be an old fart in amongst a huge variety, huge range of ages, and it's refreshing and great to see all this content being done. Um, love the show. I mean, it's actually playing now in my studio. I just turned, turned the slider down to do this. So there you go. It's been great company when you work alone. It's awesome. Um, thanks for having me on the show so many times. Certainly given me a certain amount of confidence and, and a free session with, uh, Pete Shepherd. Thanks, Pete. Uh, probably say a bit of a cheerio to all the Gronk Squad and everything. If I don't catch up, I'm sure we'll meet each other, uh, here and there in the, in this content type circles. But, uh, all the best, all of you, and it's been great to meet every one of the, the Gronks, that's for sure. Um, I, I, you might have noticed that I've got a green screen behind me because I thought Maybe you could put me on the show one more time.

5:45

Tommy: Yes.

5:47

Derek: All right, forget it. Just, you just read it out. All right. So, um, thanks a million. Show's been great and it's a massive achievement to, uh, to do 1,000 episodes. I think I calculated it for a once a week show, which is fucking hard to do. Trust me, I know. That's 20 years worth of podcasting. Don't correct me if I'm wrong.

6:15

Tommy: Fuck off if I'm wrong.

6:17

Derek: All right, it's been great. Um, I just wanted to have the last word. Love you guys, and I look forward to playing tonnes and tonnes of golf. All right, bye-bye. Love you.

6:30

Tommy: Love you, Derek.

6:31

Josh: Scooter Derek.

6:32

Tommy: Thank you. Let's put— raise a glass to, um, Scooter Derek and the show. Jess has really been stingy on this, um, on the Prosecco handout. Josh, you've got half of it.

6:42

Josh: Thank you.

6:42

Tommy: I put too much in yours, mate.

6:43

Josh: Cheers.

6:44

Tommy: Cheers. Cheers.

6:44

Josh: Cheers.

6:45

Tommy: Cheers. Cheers. The camera.

6:45

Josh: Cheers.

6:46

Tommy: Cheers.

6:47

George: That was lovely.

6:49

Tommy: Thanks, Scooter.

6:50

George: Have you thought much about legacy, Josh?

6:53

Josh: Nah. I feel like— So George said, or Jess and George said that, oh, you're going to cry. And I feel like George is going in real quick to be like, can we make Josh cry?

7:06

Tommy: I reckon Jess will cry quicker.

7:10

Josh: She's shaking her head.

7:11

Tommy: She's not talking anymore.

7:15

Josh: I think that's a phrase either.

7:16

Jess: I cried too much recently.

7:17

Tommy: Yeah, yeah, yeah. No, I mean, what does today look like for us outside of the show? We're, we're going to have a little team bonding session, which we've done a fair few in the last couple of weeks. Drinking sessions is what I mean by team bonding. But yeah, what a weird time. George, you were saying how, like, if you think about, we started the show in 2018.

7:41

Josh: Yep. And then February 16, 2018.

7:44

Tommy: Yeah. Which that, you know, it's like you kind of, you are committed, but it's like something new feels not like it does until you, and then you find, find your feet. You're like, oh, we're actually doing this. And the team, when it goes beyond you and I. So then when Mason was a part of the show.

7:59

Josh: Yeah.

7:59

Tommy: And then 2019, that was a wild year. But then 2020 hit and then fuck me, that year just went more locked. Like it was—

8:10

George: If you're going to pick 3 years in the, you know, 21st century, pretty mental 3 years to pick.

8:15

Tommy: Crazy, dude. Ben Fordham says, yeah, that's crazy.

8:19

George: And so it's been a really cool thing to look back and see the ride through COVID and everything.

8:25

Tommy: And yeah, well, I think, I mean, we got an email last night Um, which was super sweet. Did you see this one, Josh? It was from, I think it's, um, Eliza. You see that?

8:39

George: Mm-hmm.

8:40

Josh: And nice.

8:41

Tommy: Do you want me to read something?

8:42

Josh: Yeah, read it.

8:43

Tommy: Uh, hi guys, I just wanted to write to say thank you for the pod and all the magnificent effort you guys have put in over the years. You and the team have been great company whilst I cook dinner, walk to work, block out the world, and sometimes even shower. Since March last year, I've been working from home and hearing from you every day has kept me sane. I love how open you guys have been about your business and journey you have been on. As someone who also works for a small family business, I can totally relate to the highs and the lows. I especially want to thank you for the Mr.—

9:14

Josh: Mr.—

9:14

Tommy: for Michael Bungay Stanier episode, as it really changed the way I approach my clients. I'm very sad to see you guys go, particularly as I'm about to have a baby myself in mid-June and really I did think I would have that time to myself each day to cheque in and listen to you guys. But alas, I will revert to my Audible account and redeem all the unused credits. You should just give you a fucking—

9:37

Josh: Yeah, do you want my login, Eliza?

9:38

Tommy: Should give her your login for sure.

9:40

Josh: You're right on the Seth Rogen book. Not good. Just because they've, for some reason, they're doing like dramatic scenes in it. And I just hate that in a book.

9:48

Tommy: Eliza, look out. Also, thank you for having an episode on hypnobirth. I had no idea what it was, and it really opened my eyes to all the options, so I'm forever grateful. I'll be thinking of you, Amy, and Bodhi over June, July, and wishing you the best for the birth. On final note, know that whilst you have many sad gronks out there, we understand the decision and think the team has done an incredible job creating a community. The sacrifice you guys have made taking time out of your personal lives to bring the daily talk show has not gone unnoticed. To bring us the daily talk show. I do not doubt that success will I will continue to follow all of you guys on the next stage in your journey. Thank you again, Josh, Tommy, George, Jess, and Mason.

10:31

Josh: Thanks, Eliza.

10:32

Tommy: That's really nice. But on just on that sort of, that's someone who I don't know if we've heard from Eliza. No, never heard from her, but has been listening.

10:40

Josh: She's just been to us in the shower.

10:43

Tommy: Yeah. So she's just been a number on the dashboard of Simplecast. If you think about it, all the, like, we look at that, Josh, you're in there every day. Are you still in there?

10:52

Josh: I don't look at it as much. There was a time where I was going to have a dedicated TV with the download numbers. They didn't get high enough.

10:59

Jess: Yeah.

10:59

Josh: Instead we got fat.

11:01

Tommy: But we've had over 1.5 million downloads of the show. But it is interesting to think those numbers.

11:07

Josh: Yeah.

11:08

Tommy: One of them is Eliza and I don't— And you don't connect with them unless people are contacting you. So, that's why it can feel real lonely.

11:15

George: That was one thing I learnt from you guys is The feeling of like— Sort of like the numbers?

11:19

Tommy: No, no.

11:21

George: Just the feeling of like almost detaching yourself from your work in a way. Like you put, you do the show and you do your content. And then I found that once it's out there, you kind of, it's just out there. And it's helped to stop thinking about what people think about you, like worrying about what people might think. Because compared to making videos for Instagram or whatever, and you see the comments and the likes and all that sort of thing. You do a podcast and it's out there and then you kind of just move on. You go, alright, well, I don't know what people are listening to right now, but maybe someone's listening to me right now. I don't really care what they think.

11:55

Josh: Well, it's like the equivalent of think about if you're going to a café with friends at the end of each time you hang out, are you like fretting about what you said or? And so, I think that that's where we've gotten the podcast to.

12:08

Tommy: Depends if you feel the blow-up.

12:09

Josh: Yeah.

12:10

Tommy: Because then you've got to have—

12:10

Josh: Well, so there's always, but the other thing too is with the show, there's always been tomorrow. So there is more pressure on this episode because this is it.

12:20

Jess: All right, mate.

12:21

Tommy: Way to fuck up.

12:23

Josh: Sorry.

12:23

Tommy: Put the pressure on.

12:24

Josh: Thank yous. We'll do it. We'll do a bunch of thank yous. But our partners.

12:28

Tommy: Oh yeah.

12:29

Josh: Amy and Bray.

12:31

Tommy: Yeah. Huge.

12:33

Josh: Think about like—

12:33

George: Massive commitment.

12:34

Jess: Yeah.

12:35

Josh: Like the thing is, the commitment is obviously something that we took on, but There's so many people around us that it affects or impacts.

12:44

Tommy: Isn't it funny, like, just decisions when you're in a relationship are obviously, it does affect someone else. But at this, at the beginning, at the beginning, I didn't think about it like that because you don't know, like, you're kind of just doing something for a bit of fun. Like, you're just like, oh, let's do this, and then you start it, next minute you're in the middle of it. But then it's a bit different to signing a mortgage with a partner where you really have to go through the planning stage together. But you can, like, this has become quite large and them adapting to that without us sitting them down saying, because you'd never sit someone down saying, here's what's going to happen. Or maybe you would.

13:29

Josh: Episode 1, I said, Bri, get ready for a wild ride.

13:32

George: Maybe you would.

13:32

Josh: Your boyfriend's about to get hella famous. And so, No, you're just doing it.

13:40

Tommy: And they're like, yeah, supportive, supportive.

13:41

Josh: Because that's what a great partnership is. And so, yeah, that's the thing. They've gone with it. They've supported us. Even times, there was times last year I was like feeling down or whatever, and Bri was like, nah, you've got it. Like, you love it. And so I think that that, like, from my end—

13:58

Tommy: I dropped the ball in the last few weeks.

14:00

Josh: Bri's like, you've said it enough. Fucking just give it up. Yeah, yeah.

14:03

Tommy: They've agreed with us.

14:04

Josh: Yeah, yeah.

14:05

Tommy: Yeah, they've really— But that is also a great partner that when— You're totally right. Like agreeing with when it's time because they vibe it, like a partner should be vibing you versus what they feel. And then—

14:21

Josh: Yeah, because they're as committed to the podcast and everything as we are. And so, in those, there are the times where it's like, ah, like, you will feel better after this. Just go and do it and all that sort of thing. But then also, like the being able to have the conversations around, oh, like, what would life— it seems silly to think that the conver— there's a conversation where it's like, what would life look like without doing the podcast?

14:47

Tommy: Yeah.

14:48

Josh: Like, isn't it like the fact that that's even a conversation, which it all could just be seen as a bit silly, but it is silly. That's what's funny about it.

14:57

Tommy: You need to approach something with a bit of silliness in that respect, a bit of what's the term? Not like—

15:06

Josh: Playful.

15:06

Tommy: Grandfulness. Like it helps when you—

15:09

Josh: Oh, sure. Grandiosity sort of thing.

15:10

Tommy: When you are like, no, we need to, like that contributes to the consistency as well.

15:16

Josh: Well, think how intense I was on certain things. So, it's like just when the episode was going out, show notes, like there were so many things where, think about how attached I used to be to a lot of those things. And then part of it, like I think To your point, JB, it's like you get to a point where you understand what matters and what doesn't matter in the whole grand scheme of things. But it's not to say that those things didn't matter at the start. Like, they're good things, like build up. So, if we had been loose from the start around, oh, you know, if we miss a day or whatever, you'd have weeks without doing a show.

15:50

Tommy: There was some of the— that were the just non-negotiables of doing the show. And we talked about this, about getting it done whenever. And we'll probably be stricter at times of doing it at certain times. But that definitely helps. What do you think it like if we were just to like— jokes on everyone, this isn't our last day— just audio, there's no bells and whistles, no show notes. Do you think for someone out there, do you think that energy can reap a reward?

16:19

Josh: Well, like with the consistency, you never stand still with any of this stuff. Like you're always going to be evolving and change. Like, if you think about how many different versions, whether it's like doing the 2 episodes a day, that type of thing.

16:31

George: Black and white t-shirts was a big thing. Oh yeah, that was a non-negotiable.

16:36

Tommy: That was to keep it easy. Bit of fun, bit of fucking bit silliness. Back to you, George. What you said about, what were you saying before?

16:43

Josh: Well, there was the bit on the legacy. For me, the legacy stuff is friendships, relationships, all that sort of thing. So I went on like, there's obvious Gronks. That have been a big part of the whole journey. Mason being one of them, he was great. Gemma, Scooter.

17:01

Tommy: He's got a list. Pete, he's got the website up.

17:04

Josh: Happy Harry, Ryan John. Yeah, Diavella, Harps, Trev. All these people, like, these are people that have been consistent. Grace as well. Think about like Mason and Grace finding love on the podcast. That's beautiful. Didn't have to, didn't have to share shit, didn't have to share the work, you know, their life.

17:26

Tommy: Except for when Derek sat down with Mr. 97 and talked to him about his sex life.

17:31

Josh: Remember that?

17:32

George: Yeah, dude, you guys got paid for that.

17:35

Josh: Yeah, he was on, he was also on, he was on payroll, on payroll.

17:38

Tommy: So he got paid for that. What are you trying to say, George?

17:40

Josh: But yeah, Ryan Shelton. Yeah, there's so many, there's so many people And obviously Crystal Andrews. Like, you think about the amount of relationships we've formed, people that have supported.

17:54

Tommy: George, are you able to see how many guests we've had on?

17:57

George: Well, according to my video that I did for the 1,000th episode, 175.

18:01

Tommy: 175 guests. And Fordo. Fordo was— A lot of these have become good friends.

18:09

Josh: Hayden Gibbs got a fucking tattoo.

18:11

Tommy: Fuck yeah, baby.

18:14

Josh: And so, yeah, I think, yeah, that's, I think from a legacy perspective, that's what I think about is it's like there's a lot of people that we didn't know going into this.

18:24

Tommy: Yeah.

18:25

Josh: And I think that a lot of people have grown. They've had their own creative experience. You think about, but even think about like Gemma and Pete became friends through the show. Scooter, like the fact that we play golf with Scooter and like all of that stuff is is really cool.

18:45

Tommy: It is. Um, the— George, the other thing outside the legacy that you mentioned was, um, not, not worrying about what other people think, all of that stuff. There's definitely a muscle that is grown, or a wall that goes up that you build with bricks, you know, on the border of your mind that is shutting that noise out. Because I think if once you stop Like right now, I feel like I don't have that in my head about thinking about what—

19:17

Josh: Is it a wall? I think a wall might be the wrong—

19:20

Tommy: A wall, but a muscle. Like, I think people say muscle because it refers to strength and it refers to something that's been worked at. You could call it a callus, which isn't as nice as— A muscle is like you've intentionally built it.

19:32

Josh: I think—

19:32

Tommy: To shut out a bit of that monkey brain that everybody has. And my point is that it's still there. And I, I could imagine if I stopped doing content for a year, didn't actually put anything out, I'm sure I would still have some version. The muscle would go down, put something out.

19:51

George: Yeah, yeah, totally.

19:52

Josh: I think there's a— so the way that I visualise it would be inner strength rather than a wall. So think about like just working on being okay with what you're doing.

20:02

Tommy: I went back to muscle.

20:02

Josh: Yeah, I think the core strength thing is good.

20:04

Tommy: Core strength because you like golf. Because I was thinking more biceps.

20:08

Josh: Yeah, yeah. No, it's the strength, it's the inner strength of being able to like not have things.

20:12

Tommy: There's a reason Dave Vella has biceps as big as he does.

20:15

Josh: Yeah, that's the, that's the strength to YouTube. Um, but you know, I think, um, like obviously that's a big component of it.

20:22

George: Yeah, being comfortable in just maybe not that you don't care, but it's like, yeah, putting out so many bits of content for years consistently. I guess that, yeah, the anxiety kind of goes a little bit in, like, you don't feel it as much because, you know, you can just come back the next day, like you said. And so, yeah, I reckon you're right. If you took a year off and then did something that you're so proud of, you'd definitely be feeling, shit, what are people going to think? Maybe.

20:50

Tommy: Well, maybe there's the, like you said, Josh, you can rock up tomorrow. There's the lingering time between the last thing and the next, and then you're like, actually just can do your own head in, or you're comparing it, you know, to what was done before. What do you think the main— Jess is a content creator, influencer— what do you think the main, um, fear for people and content? Because even when I think about, like, the— I was thinking about, there's such— there's a fucking life outside of creating content. As much as we're in the content creation business, there's also the people that don't really care for creating it, don't care about the status of it or any of that. Any— like, they might just consume Netflix. They love it.

21:34

Josh: But I was listening to a bit like the, um, the radio last night, and they were talking all about nurses. ABC.

21:39

Tommy: Yeah, great.

21:40

Josh: Um, talking about nursing, and it was interesting just around like, you know, we talk about them being superheroes and all that sort of thing, and nurses were saying we actually need to change the language because they're just regular people. Doing spectacular things. Yeah, but they have all of that. They don't have some sort of, um, uh, they're not invincible to all of this stuff. They just manage and all that sort of thing. So yeah, it feels like on the grand scheme of things, what we're doing is very insignificant. Your question suggests totally.

22:10

Tommy: And, and so, um, what do you think the fear— are you hot now, Jess? Well, lucky I turned off the aircon.

22:16

Josh: Yeah, the heater, the heater.

22:18

Tommy: Which comes out the AC.

22:19

Josh: The conditioned air could be hot.

22:21

Tommy: Yeah, true, true, true. What do you think the fear for most people creating content is?

22:28

Jess: Maybe just that they're not good enough or what they're putting out isn't good enough.

22:31

Tommy: I mean, you got off Instagram for— is there— can you relate any answer to that?

22:37

Jess: Well, I don't know because I don't think my personal fits within that. I got off that for different reasons, but I think creatively If I was doing something, so like my calligraphy or whatever, like putting that out, I just couldn't do that.

22:52

Tommy: So, putting yourself out there.

22:53

Jess: Yeah.

22:53

Tommy: That's a thing you hear a lot about.

22:56

George: And so consistency helps.

22:56

Tommy: Which I haven't thought about that at all, which is funny. But I think early days I definitely did.

23:02

George: It's like the guy who sold his art, you know, 500 days of doing art. Like if you're doing one piece of art, the pressure's on. But if you're doing it every day for 500 days, it gets easier and easier.

23:13

Tommy: But so, the easy then equation is do it every day. But then maybe that's not realistic for everybody in terms of, say, this podcast. Yeah, there's a reason we're stopping and it's because of George. It's his fault. He charges way too much. No, no, no, it's Jacksy Jess. It was, it was us. It was all our fault and I take full responsibility. No, but yeah, the, yeah, the, what's this saying? Putting yourself out there.

23:42

Derek: Yeah.

23:42

Josh: I mean, Gypsy Tales had the— He just texted me, wouldn't he? He's got a great—

23:47

Tommy: Fuck! He just said, fuck, just saw 7-day lockdown.

23:50

Josh: Yeah. So, Jase has a great podcast, Gypsy Tales.

23:53

Tommy: He's been grinding for years.

23:55

Josh: And he had, is his name Mitch from Angry Dad?

24:00

Jess: Yep.

24:00

Josh: Mitch. And so, I saw a snippet where Mitch said, okay, I'm going to start running every day. And just how hard it was at the start versus at the 100-day mark and how much easier it is. And so, I think like doing—

24:14

Tommy: 3Ks a day.

24:15

Josh: Yeah. Doing something regular is awesome. It's definitely— And I guess the trap is that you think that it has to be spectacular. I think for me, what I want to do is do things regularly, but actually a lot smaller. We spoke about it a bunch. It was like how good I would feel when I would do like errands. And I'm like, I'm the errand guy. Oh, you know, it just fell back into too much of your identity.

24:41

Jess: We need realistic goals.

24:43

Tommy: It was too, yeah. No, 100%.

24:47

Josh: Jess, what have you learned through all this, or what are you thinking right now?

24:49

Tommy: What's one takeaway from working with us? Because everything else is bad, but give us one, please.

24:58

Jess: I just, I think the biggest thing that I was talking to you about it the other night, Josh, that I've learned from you guys is is to just bring yourself and kind of just be real, um, and not worry about what other people are thinking. Um, communication is maybe summarises it all. Um, yeah, probably communication.

25:19

Tommy: Communication.

25:21

Josh: And in what way?

25:22

Jess: Um, just to be—

25:24

Tommy: what does that mean for you?

25:25

Jess: Just to be yourself and not, um, have your, you know, protective barriers up and your walls up and that kind of thing, or just being curious.

25:35

Tommy: Is it high? Is it when you say be you, is it that you haven't been you in those other moments where, like, are you comparing it to another approach that you've taken?

25:45

Jess: Yeah, I think it's, it's, um, like in a professional environment, like obviously PR, um, you know, you bring a different version of yourself to work, um, and then in different groups and scenarios of people, you bring different versions of yourself. Um, and I think something that I loved about myself since Starting here is just not tolerating the bullshit and just kind of being me. Maybe.

26:11

George: Yeah.

26:15

Tommy: That's the studio audience clapping. There's 400 people here.

26:19

Josh: Do you remember? That was a goal. I went to get bleachers. Remember? We looked at hundreds. I remember going to a school.

26:26

Tommy: It was before COVID Before COVID Before the word COVID was existing.

26:30

Josh: Better for us.

26:31

Tommy: For our minds.

26:31

Josh: Yeah. No, just from a thankful perspective. Think about people like Wayne Peters, Gronks that have just been consistent in emailing and being part— Liv for being part of it. Like Liv, like created that amazing artwork.

26:48

Tommy: Which again, you— it's so nice. Maybe there's a version of people making themselves known to the people who are creating that is— that's putting themselves out there. So like, that's so thankful for someone willing, like Eliza and like Olivia, for doing all the work they've done just to put in the effort to get, get in touch with us and let us know. Because some of the emails that have come through, they're like, oh, you guys will smash it for whatever you do next. I don't feel like that, but I don't not feel like that. But it's when you see someone saying, like, someone's version of you in their mind can be different to the version that you have in your own mind. Not that I think that I can't do anything else, but I just think this is fucking normal. This has become normal, doing a show every day, whatever it's been like, whatever we've been doing for the last couple years. I can't remember.

27:38

Josh: What will you miss most out of the whole thing?

27:41

Tommy: I don't know yet because I haven't— I'm sure I'll miss it. I'm probably, you know, what do I miss? I mean, if I'm thinking about it, it's then like getting just a real massive obvious one over here.

27:58

Josh: What, miss me?

28:00

Tommy: No, is it about to get there, you fuckhead? I would miss this fucking bullshit. No, but just like us being together, you know. I was going to say playing basketball, but Josh doesn't like going to the cafe.

28:12

Josh: Yeah, so all the things that you did before.

28:15

Tommy: I said I'll fucking miss George. No, but there's the team getting together.

28:20

Jess: The team getting together.

28:20

Josh: Of course I'll fucking miss Josh.

28:22

Tommy: That's the end. We do that at the end.

28:24

Derek: Yeah.

28:24

Josh: And George will have 2 houses. George will have 2 houses, you know, and he'll rent it to me. 2 Christmases. Yeah. You fucking, 2 sets of presents.

28:32

Tommy: We've got another one. Another person to thank, Glyn.

28:35

Josh: Oh, Glyn's been amazing.

28:36

Tommy: He just messaged me. Looks like you're going, it looks like you're going to get your wish to break lockdown for the final show. What a mess. See, I did think about that today, Glyn. Earlier in the week we said, oh, whatever, lockdown, we'll break it and come in. It's got to be more serious, mate. It's fucking the Indian strain, B.4, blah, blah, blah. It's gone mad. And so there was a decision because there's other people involved, Jess and George. And so like, it's masks indoors, it's masks outdoors. It's a bit more full on. Glenn, thanks, mate, from Florida. I know you fucking guys don't have COVID there.

29:11

Josh: Yeah.

29:12

Tommy: And you got your vaccine.

29:13

Josh: They definitely have COVID.

29:15

Derek: Yeah.

29:15

Tommy: Mate, it's the joke. You're not getting the joke?

29:17

Josh: No, I didn't quite get it.

29:19

Tommy: George, did you get the joke?

29:20

George: I wasn't listening.

29:22

Josh: No, well, no, there's no COVID. It's crazy.

29:25

Tommy: Yeah, Florida is the joke, but I think that probably a man in Florida.

29:29

Josh: Yeah, but, um, it's COVID around the world, dude.

29:33

Tommy: I thought it was obvious enough.

29:35

Jess: You forgot that we also all gave up, um, comedy.

29:38

Tommy: So yeah, we stopped doing comedy, which is, uh, I'm trying to hold us in there, but obviously you're the only one that's— and it's failed, and it's fucking— I've bombed.

29:46

Josh: Um, the final episode— No, think about it. Okay, we all need to think like this is— Because there is like talking about the, um, you know, protective mechanism that we have, which is—

29:57

Tommy: He's about to cry. He wants to cry. He wants to go— Hold it for the end and then we'll cry at the end. No, I was just holding each other, sitting on each other's legs.

30:05

George: When anything makes you cry, it's someone yelling at you, stop crying.

30:12

Josh: No, go on.

30:14

Tommy: No, go.

30:14

Josh: I mean, no, no, I don't have to say anything nice.

30:17

Tommy: No, say something nice. No, I was hoping we'd go the show a bit longer.

30:22

George: Yeah, yeah, we're still going.

30:23

Josh: Yeah. What else do you want to talk about?

30:26

Tommy: I mean, there's— I mean, you did push back on my suggestion to read out the list of everybody who had got on, everybody who was on the show. And Ian Traynor, who we mentioned yesterday, has put together this fucking awesome list. I don't— You think it's just through the website?

30:43

Josh: I don't know. I don't know.

30:45

George: My—

30:45

Josh: No, my point was I didn't want to just read a list. I wanted to be more specific.

30:49

Tommy: Well, you just read a list, dude.

30:50

Josh: Well, no, no.

30:51

Tommy: You just read a list. Okay. How about I read and we say something about everybody?

30:55

Josh: No, no. I think like, you know, so this is the thing. This is like the daily talk show whilst we have it together. It's highly personal as well. And so, for me, I'll reach out to those, to the people. But yeah, I don't think— yeah, I think that's where you and I are different, and that's what's made the show amazing, to have different ways of doing things. Yeah, but yeah, you go, go ahead.

31:20

Tommy: So he sent us a list and he said, so the Daily Talk Show family, which he said Josh, Tommy, 97GB, Jess, Amy, Bree, and then he's gone to extended family. See, this is where this is good. I'm not saying your approach was bad, Josh. We've forgotten a few people. We've actually forgotten a few people in, in your attempt.

31:42

George: Um, he said when you forget people, you never admit that you'd forgotten them.

31:46

Josh: You just like, well, I didn't forget anyone.

31:48

Tommy: He said, say, Josh, I didn't forget nobody. Um, the extended family, 3D Deal is at the top of that list. We didn't talk about 3D Deal. So 3D Deal, I mean, um, I just took his sign down yesterday, which he, he developed the logo Oh, should we talk about what we just did before?

32:07

George: Yeah, we, uh, sticker bombed Abbotsford with the 3D Deal stickers, which was the logo created into stickers.

32:16

Tommy: We did.

32:16

George: One last marketing, uh, go, which could lead to jail time. Really?

32:23

Tommy: No, I think it is like, um, littering. I think so. Yeah, but, um, Jess had a fun idea to do a point system to see where we put them. But, um, and Josh hated every second of it.

32:36

George: You didn't?

32:37

Tommy: Did you hate it?

32:39

Josh: But you didn't love it.

32:40

Tommy: You were a team player.

32:40

Josh: Yeah, I'm a team player.

32:42

Tommy: You came, you came. And so anything you want to say about 3D Deal and the logo?

32:47

Josh: Uh, yeah, I mean, uh, yeah, what can I say? I think, um, he brought a lot to the show. He was someone that, uh, said, hey, I'll come from the other side of the world.

33:03

Tommy: What did you think when you got that email?

33:05

Josh: I didn't think it was going to happen. It was great.

33:07

Tommy: Oh, because he emailed and said, I'll come and stay.

33:10

Josh: But again, like, it's all the— for me, it's the personal stuff. He stayed the first week. He stayed with Bree and I. It's like those things. Yeah, that, like, the thing is, I'm not too concerned about trying to get everyone or whatever because it's like Even though the, even though the daily talk show is finishing, the thing that remains is the relationships, which is cool. Um, and yeah, like, like, it's so cool. Like, I listen to Dill's podcast and, uh, it reminds me so much of ours in the early days, and it's just fun, easy listening. It's called The Process Podcast.

33:49

Tommy: Yeah, worth a listen. Um, uh, Reading between the lines, Josh doesn't want me to read on the list, so I won't. But there's some great names. Seth Godin. That was a fucking amazing get, which you end up getting him twice on the podcast. You emailed him since?

34:05

Josh: No, no, I don't think so. I'm trying to think of the last time we emailed. It probably was relating to him being on the last time, which was during COVID This is the part when you get out the book.

34:18

George: That you finished writing?

34:19

Josh: Oh yeah. No, no, that would—

34:23

George: There's no—

34:24

Josh: You didn't.

34:25

Tommy: Did you believe you would finish it?

34:27

Josh: Definitely. I mean, we had— Because I believed it. So for people who don't know, and sorry, I feel like we've had too much— I've had too much perspective.

34:36

Jess: Have you?

34:36

George: Really?

34:37

Josh: Maybe. This Is Marketing, his book I loved. And there's a book not written by Seth called The Boring Letters, which is for copywriters. Scott Pape told you about that? Yes. Yeah. And so I read—

34:51

Tommy: Should we talk about the unreleased episode with Scott Pape?

34:54

Josh: Yeah, you can. What do you want to say?

34:56

Tommy: No, there's just an unreleased episode with Scott Pape that we never dropped.

35:00

George: I have no idea about it.

35:01

Josh: We recorded it at his farm. Yeah, it got very personal. He was yelling at me about why I'm not married yet. He's like, mate, I feel like there's other stuff you need to sort out here. But that's not the reason. He— we ended up interviewing his groundsman.

35:16

Tommy: Oh, yeah.

35:16

Josh: The guy who looks after his farm had a great interview or whatever, but it was pretty inside baseball.

35:22

Derek: Yeah.

35:23

Josh: Yeah, it was great.

35:24

Jess: Yeah.

35:25

Tommy: I wouldn't even know where that audio is.

35:27

Josh: Yeah, I wouldn't either. But no, so, the Boron Letters read that, and in one of the letters it says, if you want to get good at writing, rewrite your favourite, you know, writings.

35:39

Tommy: So, that was Scott Pope's fault. The whole thing. Because—

35:43

Josh: and so I said, I'm going to rewrite the entire book This Is Marketing by Seth Godin.

35:49

George: Yeah.

35:50

Josh: And I got sort of—

35:51

George: and how far did Scooter end up paying for it?

35:53

Derek: No.

35:53

Josh: So what happened? So Trev, Trev, uh, Long put in a bid for $500 if it was— once it was finished, he was going to put it to charity. And then he emailed— he actually emailed— sorry, Trev, that I haven't gotten back to you. He, um, Trev said let's fucking do it. I'll give the charity, like, but I feel bad that he's just gonna give it the 500 without me finishing the book. But I wrote, uh, 70-something pages, which really, like, it fucked my wrist for a bit. Like, it wasn't good. And also, I was using a pen that, um, Basil has found. He's— so, Jess, can you explain what you just showed?

36:30

Jess: So we, when we were, um, talk show bombing Aberdsford before.

36:34

Tommy: I like that.

36:35

Jess: We went around to Basil's house, which is just behind our office, and we bombed his front door and put heaps of stickers in his letterbox. And he just sent through some pictures. Yeah. So fun to rock home to.

36:48

Tommy: Can I have a look?

36:50

Josh: And so what was I just saying? Oh, yeah. So the Seth Godin book never got finished, but that was— I remember The New Year's Eve going from 2018 to 2019.

37:03

Tommy: 2018.

37:05

Josh: So that was when— so we did an extension. It was going to be like, um, Christmas or something, or New Year's, like 29, like going into 2019. And then we said, okay, June 1, I think.

37:19

George: July 1.

37:19

Josh: July 1, new financial year. And then on that July 1, I still didn't— yeah, I didn't have it done. Yeah.

37:26

George: And I think Bradley Adil presented his original book.

37:29

Josh: So, if you look on Amazon, I'm Still Figuring It Out, I think it is.

37:34

George: I think so. Yeah.

37:35

Josh: Figuring It Out, Dylan Torreville, you'll see his book. But he wrote a whole book and I wrote the foreword for it.

37:41

George: That was one of my favourite memories of the show. Really? Seriously, I was so excited.

37:45

Tommy: Tell us what happened, George.

37:46

George: Well, it was meant to be July 1st. It was the day that Josh was going to present his Seth Godin handwritten book, completed.. And instead, 3D Deal presented an original novel.

37:57

Josh: No, no, it was a nonfiction. Yeah.

38:01

George: But like, it was hundreds of pages. It was a full-on thing. Look up July 1 episode. It's called July 1. Very, very funny.

38:07

Josh: Yeah. And so, he, after he finished the book, he said, can you, will you do a, like a foreword?

38:16

Tommy: Yeah.

38:16

Josh: I really want to find it because it is like, I've put a lot of effort into the Forward, like I really pumped him up. I'm just looking at figuring it out. I'm still figuring it out. It's on Kindle for $11.

38:28

Tommy: Great. And then can you see the fold on the, on Kindle? Yeah.

38:31

Josh: So, you can go look inside.

38:33

Tommy: And the cover's sick too, dude. I really like it.

38:36

Josh: Oh, there's a problem loading the page, it says.

38:39

Tommy: I know.

38:39

Josh: Sold out.

38:40

Tommy: It's definitely sold out.

38:42

Josh: I think it's probably, oh, you know what? Go back to store. I'll do it on this. Here we go.

38:47

Tommy: Which, I mean, that was— that was— I had no idea, you had no idea.

38:51

Josh: He surprised us.

38:52

Tommy: He was the king of, and still is the king of, look inside announcements. Remember? He would— remember how you would— the guy had more announcements than we've ever had on the show. Yeah, countdown.

39:02

Josh: He was doing so much stuff, dude.

39:04

Tommy: It was great.

39:05

Josh: Okay, here we go. Let's go. Look inside. All right, I'm still figuring it out. Copyright 2019. So, I'll just read you the foreword that I wrote about Dill that was in his book. Yeah, because I put it in there.

39:22

Tommy: Not to take it away from Dill.

39:23

Josh: No.

39:23

Tommy: But go for it.

39:25

Josh: When a Canadian college kid emails an Australian podcast with the idea of flying 21 hours to deliver some 3D-printed squeegees, you'd be fair in calling him weird and full of shit. But 6 months later, to his word, Dylan Torreville arrived in Australia on Air Canada flight 2037. With a red baseball cap, Roots tracksuit pants, and clutching onto a plastic folder filled with documents for customs, we finally met 3D Dill.

40:00

Tommy: That's right.

40:00

Josh: If you come to Australia, you'll get a nickname. And for 3D Dill, his consistent email updates on his 3D printing process secured him the name quickly. As an industrial design student, Dill was well-versed in designing and 3D printing the squeegees. The reason behind the squeegees is an in-depth joke on the show that I don't have time to go into. Episode 14 if you're interested. But when Dill got on that plane, he wasn't just delivering some squeegees. He was embarking on one of the most challenging things he'd ever done. An overseas 4-month internship with big media company and the daily talk show. Why? Because Dill sees opportunities. He has the tenacity to dream big and is steadfast in his approach. Dill built a case how he could bring value as an intern for our business, but there was convincing he needed to do beyond us. From his teachers to his parents, and most importantly, the credit card company, convincing himself it was his mum's credit card. He was just, he was just figuring it out. Like any successful entrepreneur, athlete, or artist, he leaned in to the unknown. Dyl understands that figuring it out isn't arriving at a specific destination. Figuring it out is accepting that we can only do our best. If you're trying to find your path, you'll love this book. If you need help convincing yourself that you're on the right path, you'll love this book. And most importantly, if you're someone who believes in dreaming big and pushing against the status quo, you'll love this book. And Dyl's just getting started.

41:52

Tommy: That's great. That is bloody great. Would we be able to take that, reword it for our show?

41:59

George: That could be a summary for the show.

42:01

Tommy: It's a great summary for the show, but 3D Dylan embodies what we believe in. That's why he came.

42:05

Josh: Like, he's—

42:06

Tommy: he fucking took a punt. His plane nearly went down because of a duck.

42:10

Josh: Yeah, geese went into the engine.

42:12

Tommy: He flew and a geese went in the engine. He was delayed and then, and then he had to come later on.

42:18

Josh: Any, any other thoughts before we finish up?

42:20

Tommy: Many thoughts. We finishing up?

42:23

Josh: Yeah, I think so.

42:23

Tommy: How long have we been going for?

42:25

Josh: Feels like we've been going for at least half an hour. That's enough for the fact. We'll just end up being—

42:32

George: yeah, yeah.

42:32

Josh: What have you got? Well, does Jess have prompts?

42:37

Jess: I can pull some together.

42:39

Tommy: Do you need some padding time? Because I can pad if you need.

42:43

Jess: Nah, I've got a couple. Oh, she's got prompts.

42:44

Tommy: Prompts, guys.

42:46

Jess: Are we— do you want to get into the emotional stuff?

42:48

Tommy: Yeah, let's speak to the end. Josh wants to wrap it up.

42:51

George: Okay.

42:52

Jess: We'll start off soft.

42:53

George: Well, do you want me before? Because are we going to finish with Josh crying? Is that going to be the big finale?

42:58

Tommy: I want the finish of Josh crying.

43:00

Jess: I reckon he's been biting his tongue this whole episode.

43:03

Tommy: And then everybody crying and we can blame it on Josh.

43:05

Josh: Yeah, but we're not crying.

43:06

Tommy: Like, we're not actually fucking sad, but Josh is sad, so we're sad.

43:09

Josh: You don't think?

43:11

George: No, no, but I just love you guys.

43:14

Tommy: And George wants you to cry.

43:17

George: So like, it's just been an absolute dream for me. Um, being, you know, being part of this team. I feel like I've made friendships that are tighter than any other workplace that I have worked at.

43:31

Josh: Or you've had one other job and don't burn bridges already in your job.

43:39

George: Um, and I just love you guys so much and I've learned so much. And yeah, I don't know what else to say.

43:46

Josh: Well, it does feel like this is what family's like. I wouldn't know, but no, I'm joking. I've got a loving family.

43:52

Tommy: In what way?

43:53

George: In what way?

43:55

Josh: No, just the— as people would hear on the podcast, there is the tension, there's the fun, there's all that sort of thing, but it all comes from a place of loving everyone. And so that's like, there is—

44:11

Tommy: once you get to how family disputes happen, but it's how they get around fucking just ripping into their brother.

44:17

Jess: Yeah.

44:17

Josh: Well, it's like what I love you, mate, but you're a fucking little prick.

44:22

George: What Jess was talking about earlier with being able to be yourself around you guys, or, you know, not trying to put on a different version of yourself in the workplace, that, you know, this is a workplace. It's like you guys do a great job at getting out the genuine person. Whoever's around you, you make sure that they display all their quirks and you celebrate them. And you make us feel like we can just be ourselves. And I've never felt more myself than I have in the last few years being with you guys.

44:54

Josh: Thanks, Joel.

44:55

Tommy: That's cute. Have you, have you worked out anything that you—

44:58

George: Bit of a half-assed clap.

45:00

Tommy: Yeah, it was a bit strange.

45:02

Josh: Um, I didn't want to— I felt like there was a condescending element to the— to a clap.

45:06

George: Yeah.

45:07

Tommy: Do you think there's anything you've worked out about yourself that has that you didn't like, that you didn't identify with a quirk, you know?

45:16

George: Good question.

45:17

Tommy: Um, and I don't have an answer.

45:19

George: Yeah, what do you think? I don't know. Um, yeah, I don't know.

45:26

Tommy: Like, are we bringing out the Cardi B in Jess? Yeah, yeah, like she's whopping around this room.

45:35

George: I don't know, I, I don't know what my, what my quirk is, but maybe it's So obvious to everyone listening that I'm just completely blind to it.

45:43

Tommy: No, you're a, you are an easygoing guy. As much as Josh is the easygoing guy in the business, you secondly are the easygoing guy in respects that like you don't seem rattled much.

45:56

Josh: But highly empathetic too. Like someone who is—

46:00

Tommy: Which is probably why I'm not as rattled.

46:02

Josh: But the thing is, like, you could easily get rattled through being empathetic. Because if you think about it, you sort of— and that's where like I struggle, it's like not taking in all that stuff. But I think that you sense how people are around you, and then you, you know, do what the tool— like use the tools that you have to make people feel great.

46:23

Tommy: The calming nature of GB is what we've said before.

46:26

George: Thank you. Enough about me.

46:29

Tommy: And, um, you want to do your Do you want to do your reveal now or no?

46:35

George: What's my reveal?

46:36

Tommy: Josh, did you want to say where you're going next or not?

46:40

Josh: Yeah, yeah, announce where you're going.

46:42

George: Uh, I'm going back to Canberra to get into fireworks and—

46:46

Josh: He knows comedy! He knows comedy.

46:50

Tommy: Ian Traynor is on the ground.

46:52

Josh: I wish we had a shot of you right now. He's literally in his undies. It's the funniest thing I've ever seen, but he's got He's— you've already got fireworks. He loves the smell of gunpowder.

47:02

Tommy: And he's just cut his first porn upstairs.

47:03

Josh: Yeah, yeah, the Moser.

47:05

George: 4x3.

47:07

Josh: Yeah, okay, sorry, it's 4:3.

47:09

George: Premiere joke there.

47:11

Josh: It's not even, is it?

47:12

George: Oh, just a general dimension TV joke.

47:15

Josh: It's a broadcast joke.

47:16

George: Yeah, maths joke.

47:17

Tommy: Yeah, yeah.

47:18

George: Now I'll be working for Quad Lock, just making their video content, I guess.

47:24

Josh: Yeah, great.

47:25

George: Doing all things video production at a cool brand, which is exciting. So yeah, dream. And Rob is another one.

47:33

Tommy: Yeah.

47:33

Josh: And this is, this is the thing. So many people from Quad Lock, massive supporters. Like, like there's been heaps of your friends. Yeah. And so that's not—

47:42

Tommy: don't do that. But just that's a game.

47:45

George: That's a game. Don't kill your friends.

47:46

Josh: Yeah. And so yeah, there's definitely— yeah. Rob Ward is someone who the, the first ever Apple Podcast review From Rob Ward.

47:56

Tommy: Have we got any recently?

47:58

Josh: No. You've been looking? We could look at the very, the very early, the very early ones.

48:03

Tommy: Should we do the last and the first Apple review? See what happens.

48:08

George: We can just go. Rob has been awesome. And like, I was so flattered. Like, you know, the day that you guys decided that we were done, Rob called me an hour later and said, hey, I know it's a bit early, but do you want to come over here? Think about it. I said, yeah, yeah, yeah, I will.

48:30

Josh: And that's like testament to all, like even Jess, like the amount of people that have texted.

48:35

Jess: I was just about to say it's lucky for some of us.

48:36

George: No, no, no.

48:37

Josh: How many people have texted? You've had like 10 people contact you about roles.

48:43

Jess: That's such an exaggeration.

48:43

Tommy: What is the real truth?

48:45

Jess: Like 4 freelance gigs.

48:47

Tommy: Oh, she's ungrateful.

48:49

Josh: Yeah, no, no, it's awesome. No, no, she's just being humble.

48:51

Tommy: Jess, how many have I got? Ask me.

48:53

Jess: How many have you got?

48:56

Tommy: 5.

48:57

Josh: No, no, no. So, Robbie Ward, 3 years ago said, random but great was the subject line.

49:03

Tommy: Yeah, great.

49:04

Josh: A podcast that goes all over the shop and some, and doesn't necessarily come back to centre in a good way.

49:12

Derek: Yeah.

49:13

Josh: That was nice.

49:13

George: That's a perfect synopsis.

49:14

Jess: Yeah, that summarises it very well.

49:17

Josh: And so, yeah, there's so many, you know, I mentioned Russ Keys, didn't I already? There's so many people. That have supported us from the early days.

49:27

Tommy: And so fast forward to the 21st of April, our last one. Absolutely love the podcast, guys. Congrats on 1,000. Can't wait to see the next chapter, what the next chapter brings. Well, you're here. This is it. 6 out of 5 stars. She gave us— Bukan, that's clever. I haven't seen that before. Great podcast in the titles. Great podcast, 6 out of 5 stars.

49:47

Josh: Oh yeah, with the emoji sort of things.

49:49

George: Yeah, love it.

49:50

Tommy: Con me into thinking that we got a 6-star review. Someone had worked that out.

49:56

Josh: Um, well, thank you, TJ.

49:57

Tommy: Thank you, mate. I was gonna, I was gonna say, um, I wrote something. No, I didn't. I didn't. That's not what we do. We don't write shit around here. No, but I was thinking about how challenging, um, this podcast has been from a personal perspective. And I think you touched on it earlier, the differences is why there's pain, but it's also why there's pleasure. And so I think about why I've got into the things I have, hard drugs, all that stuff is because of you.

50:32

George: No, no, no.

50:33

Tommy: But just the pain of figuring it out. And we go back to Dyl's book again, the pain of figuring it out, figuring our relationship out, figuring this business out, figuring out what we're talking, all the elements is why I think I've gone down the path I have. And that's a lot to do with you. And I love you.

50:56

Derek: I love you.

50:57

Josh: I think like similar, in a similar way, I think like, you know, when I hear from people what they think about the show, it's like they're not so in, oh, like, I fucking love Tommy, or I love, like, I think what people have loved about the show is Sometimes I piss people off, sometimes you piss people off. And that's, that's a real friendship, isn't it? When it's just like there's— Yeah, I think it's been a unique thing that we'll be able to take with us. The learnings, the— I think the— I know how difficult I can be. And so it takes us, just like with Bri, it takes special people around me that will accepts me for who I am. And just, and, you know, like, even though obviously there's moments of friction, it's like we chose to do this and we gave it a crack. And, um, that's, that's the main thing. And so, you know, I, you know, people— I think when you're going through this transition, people will say like, oh, do you regret doing it. It's like, no, like, this is— for me, it's like I'm going out on a high in regards to how I feel about everyone around me, how— what I've learned. Um, and so, and I think that that's like a— you have definitely been the one to say, let's keep it, like, just keep going. Whereas I'm sort of very sort of looking at every stage of like, is this right? Are we doing— like, there's probably been 5 times in the past 3 years where I'm like, I don't know if this is working. Like, are we pushing ahead? Are we like continuing on?

52:53

Tommy: And it's funny because I— every one of those, I'm like, dude, come on, let's go, let's go. Like, but this— these times I feel different as well, which is why we both were more mutual about it. And so not to say I would have finished those other times, but I just, I didn't feel right. And I don't think you necessarily— it's just the friction of anything that makes you question what the fuck you're doing.

53:15

Jess: Yeah.

53:16

Tommy: Like, and it's, and sometimes it's not worth it. And the reason we kept going was because it was worth it and you thought it too. And so, yeah.

53:24

Josh: And the other thing is you get to see when you're close with people, you get to see the consistencies. And so like, you know, the you can't do 1,000 episodes without showing who you are. And so I think, you know, that's something that you should be proud of, is that the, you know, the focusing on your family and thinking about what sort of dad you want to be, like, they're things that, um, you can't bullshit.

53:54

Tommy: Um, and so it's, uh, it's kind of cool because finishing up I see you excited about who you want to become, which is like, we've done so much about what we want this to be, and that's why it's a good time to finish it because you're like, you're fucking pumped about this other existence you can have that's going to be better for you. But it's only— it's what I gauge is that it's only because of what you've realised doing what you've done. That's the thing, it's all why everything you do There's no dis— you can't discount it because if you were regretting it, how the fuck do you even come to a realisation that there was a different way that I would do it now if I had the chance to do it again? And that regret is actually almost a stimulus to say, well, you're almost out of alignment with what you did, which I'm not at all on this. It was a part of the journey. But what I'm saying is if you're regretting it, it's an opportunity. To see a different way. But what you've done should just be— can just be seen in a light way of saying it's made me who I am right now regardless.

55:00

Josh: And I think the— like, look at, um, like, Jess always trolls me about talking about Naysan, my mate. I haven't seen— I've seen Naysan once a year now, right? But we had this 2-year period where it's like we're travelling the world and we're doing this. And, and this is what I think it's like the ride or die relationships that you build. I think that that's what we've developed, where it's like, um, as someone who I guess is like a little, um, introverted or doesn't necessarily like— I don't know what the fuck you call it, but I think what I like is the fact that there's a bunch of relationships now, like a Gem, like Pete, like Scoot, like all of it, like Trev.

55:43

Tommy: I can do the list.

55:45

Josh: There's so many people where it's like I'm excited to pick up the phone.

55:51

Tommy: Yeah.

55:51

Josh: And being like, oh, what have you, what have you been doing?

55:54

Tommy: Yeah.

55:54

Josh: Going like, going to lunch with George or Jess and being like, oh, like, what are you up to? Like, just from a different perspective.

56:03

Tommy: That's not the question, mate.

56:03

Josh: Where it's—

56:04

Tommy: You know the question.

56:05

Josh: What's your biggest challenge?

56:06

Tommy: No, it's what's been the highlight of your day. That's the first one.

56:10

Josh: But like, there is something nice and I definitely feel when you have a business, uh, you feel the weight of everything. And so it, to me, it feels like you, like, I think this is pretty common, people with like, like with their parents when you're a kid. Like, I remember there was a stage with my dad where it's like he was really uptight and all that sort of thing. And then when you like leave the house, they can be like a different ver— they don't have to be a grump all the time. They can sort of just be Like there's a different relationship. And I think that that's what I'm excited about is all of those relationships, including with you, that is not always about, oh, what's happening with this or that or, you know, because that takes a certain toll, but it also like builds this great relationship. Think about like with you, like with your mum being in Byron, like having that like, yeah. Separation means that like it's a different relationship. You can like— it's— there is something nice about distance in some ways.

57:15

George: Definitely. But every time we'll hang out, it's going to be a special feeling. Not that it isn't already. Yeah, but it'll be more special when we play golf and I absolutely destroy you.

57:24

Josh: Mate, you said no one ever wins, but he fucking keeps score. He definitely keeps score. Thank you, Kaz, as well. Like how lovely Kaz has been.

57:33

Tommy: Yeah, I know your point on the list is that the— this isn't the end. This is a different era for relationships that we've formed with so many. 175. A fucking boring segment, me reading out all of that. But there's so many that we love. And if you've been on the show, it's because we think highly of you.

57:51

Jess: Yeah.

57:52

Tommy: And we have got around every moment. If you haven't been on the show, it doesn't mean we don't think highly of you. The thing is, a lot of this has been circumstantial as much as we've been strategic. There are times where we've had opportunity to get someone on based like timing, all that stuff. And so it's interesting to see what you can create when, yeah, you, you're open to let's see what happens and also, you know, stick at something. So if you're waiting to start something, do it, because the journey and the ride is fucking wild.

58:31

Josh: Thanks everyone for listening. Yeah. Don't send us an email to hire The Daily Talk Show. Why not? Well, I guess they could. It's still going to be on.
