Tommy Jackett: [00:00:00] Very low barrier to get into the ground spot.
Josh Janssen: [00:00:07] We've committed to do the daily talk show for 10 years. I had guys
Tommy Jackett: [00:00:11] in the calendar just like
Josh Janssen: [00:00:13] to check the temperature in the room. I told you my squeegee
Tommy Jackett: [00:00:16] story.
It's the
Josh Janssen: [00:00:20] daily talk show episode 957.
Tommy Jackett: [00:00:23] What is happening? What is going on? What was that?
Josh Janssen: [00:00:27] What's what? I just heard a noise. Uh, we've made some changes to the studio. Yeah. A couple of little
Tommy Jackett: [00:00:32] ones. Um, if you're just listening, won't sound different. It was always sound like this always sound
Josh Janssen: [00:00:38] great. What I feel like it's the ultimate YouTube.
Fuck boy. Look, isn't it.
Tommy Jackett: [00:00:46] Yeah, yeah. Yeah.
Josh Janssen: [00:00:47] It's uh, how would you describe it?
Tommy Jackett: [00:00:49] Uh, well, it's just, um, using some colorful lights to sort of make it feel
Josh Janssen: [00:00:56] fresh. Yep. And we've, uh, uh, got them in the background. You'll have to check out our YouTube
Tommy Jackett: [00:01:03] back in the day. I had a, I think I got it for my birthday lava lamp also given for my year seventh party, a, um, remember those Globes that you touch and electricity surges in.
So it looks like it's yes, yes, yes. Oh, lightning storm.
Josh Janssen: [00:01:17] This on today's episode of Wondrich Tony. Oh, every single one of those things. Yeah.
Tommy Jackett: [00:01:22] And so the vibe of your room, when you can set it. To, um, you know, you'd put your, put your love lamp on. I used to love sending it when I went out, came
Josh Janssen: [00:01:31] home. Don't you think it's weird though, that like, I think about how strict your dad would have been about turning off lights and he's got a, like a light hating machine in your bedroom when some, you lose some, not to mention your, um, Yeah.
What's it called? Hydroponics?
Tommy Jackett: [00:01:51] Yeah. Yeah. Running, no, that was running off the next door. Neighbors fucking ran it in now launch nipple. We used to do that. Yeah. It's still a thing. I believe very, very hard to patch in from another person's power source, other than running a power
cord.
Josh Janssen: [00:02:06] But one of the thing I saw on Twitter, which I thought was interesting, someone's power went out, right?
Like in the whole neighborhood, they had a solar. Power. Yeah, it goes off to when they're doing works. If they're turning off the grid, they have to turn your solar power off or it could still be an issue really, because it's going back into
the
Tommy Jackett: [00:02:28] grid. How did that, what about if you're off the girl? Yes.
Josh Janssen: [00:02:32] If you're off the GERD and then it's no problem.
Tommy Jackett: [00:02:34] And, and I mean, they don't have much say at that point, but yeah, , there's no one around you at that point. It is. Um, so there was a guy that had. Uh, fake it wasn't fake. It was a Foxtel, um, dish and he had a fake card and got free Foxtel. Yeah. How did that? What I do love about the world, not so much if you're the business owner, um, but if, if people do get crafty and they work something out about what you've been offering and what I think everyone gives credit to is these businesses thinking that they would have thought about everything.
But if you think about an app, think about your Apple iPhone, and then you're like something that annoys you about its functionality. Instagram, the being able to only now choose a thumbnail for a video that's 60 seconds or square. Like it's a one that is an eye, so you're going to television. So there was everyone
Josh Janssen: [00:03:34] comparing that to Foxtel.
Tommy Jackett: [00:03:35] I'm comparing that. Instagram's a huge, not, I'm not comparing, I'm saying Instagram is such a big business and they haven't, they hadn't fixed simple things at most, but, and so then it is really complicated. So the Foxtel thing is it was probably really complicated how people were doing this. And they like, I didn't fucking think of that.
Josh Janssen: [00:03:54] It's a, it's like a S uh, Sony PlayStation with the ch like everyone had the chip and you would get the cheaper things, but piracy feels like it's different than like, think about it's easier. The only thing that I, you
Tommy Jackett: [00:04:08] don't fuck with pirates, what do you mean? Don't Dana white and the UFC. He's um, C yo, I think he's the man, you know, his bald dude looks like a thumb, real big shoulders.
You know, it looks like he's definitely on HGH lifts. Yeah. White lifts just thick. It looks great. It's all right. I look, sorry. I looked distracted. I'm going tell you finish this story. Dana white came out and was like, we've been watching you. We know who you are. I really, if you're going to put the UFC main event out on the internet.
We'll come after you. You're done. We'll be watching your house on the day. And if you put it out, we're coming in and he fully went hard and then there was a massive issue and they couldn't. It was not streaming properly word on the street, is that it was all these hackers or all these people going, ah, fuck.
This you're threatening us. All right, son. And they went hard and it took it down and it was struggling to get it back up. And anyway, it was like, he threatened them. Isn't that a fuck with pirates?
Josh Janssen: [00:05:15] Didn't that happen? Was it, uh, Optus? Or there was, there was one company I'm trying to think of how it was.
They got the rights to some big thing. Maybe it was channel seven. I can't remember. I think it was the tennis a couple of years ago. Remember things weren't work like the streaming wasn't working or it was a real issue
Tommy Jackett: [00:05:33] of what a nightmare. Yeah. I mean, for us where it's all working today, isn't it's happening.
Yeah. Yeah, I distracted about, sorry. I was just, uh, tried to distract me out of my story with you,
Josh Janssen: [00:05:44] our structure. I'm sorry. Well, because the thing is, I know that it's rude because I'm looking down at my laptop, but I just wanted to say good day does our head, who sent us an email? He's from Pakistan. He's a big fan of both of us.
And he said he watches us on YouTube daily. He's been doing it since December last year. Maisie. You said, uh, why don't you do lives on the weekend to
Tommy Jackett: [00:06:07] an answer that, yeah, well, um, last year is a head to head. Is it, is it hit yet? Is that head? There was a point where we were doing 12 shows awake. That was two times, five days a week.
So you waked out your work days and then on Saturday, Sunday, We did that, but we did that for almost three months without the break. And we actually did it on the day. There was a period where we, like, we would pre-record weekend show, so we didn't lose our partners, um, and families and lives. Uh, so we could have some time with them, but a lot of the, like, there was a stint where we went hard and so this year it's, um, Yeah, we've just sort of refined it, mate.
We've got five days a week that we're pushing out.
Josh Janssen: [00:06:48] It says I'm not a native English speaker, but love to listen to your chat about daily life tough topics. Uh, it provides me opportunity to learn English and update me on the latest topics. I thank you. for your email height, the height, the daily talking about communism.
Yeah, they did that really
Tommy Jackett: [00:07:05] well daily. You knew that's okay. Um, you the next bit. Well, which bit. I have a little
Josh Janssen: [00:07:13] announcement. Okay. We can talk about it. Uh, so you weren't going to, Oh, no, no, no, we can. So, uh, if you have a look at Tommy's mug, uh, he's got a mug, that's got a cam quarter on it. It says cam quarter club and, uh, nearly
Tommy Jackett: [00:07:30] sipped the mic.
Josh Janssen: [00:07:31] And so, uh, if you've been watching on Instagram, you'll notice that there's been a bunch of new videos with the title CC. And so, uh, I'd like to officially announce today, the 11th of February, 2021, uh, cam quarter club.
Tommy Jackett: [00:07:51] We, we don't have sound effects anymore and sorry, and hear the guys upstairs clapping.
Josh Janssen: [00:07:58] I had a, of lanky for lunch.
Tommy Jackett: [00:07:59] It's imitate mate, a tea, what? These little things and nostalgic. So what is the camcorder club? Uh, so the
Josh Janssen: [00:08:06] idea is that. Uh, everyone in the team, uh, there you go. There's the sound. Uh, everyone in the team has a cam quarter and, uh, we just film everything that's happening and then we quickly put it up on Instagram and soon to be YouTube.
Um, and so, uh, yeah.
Tommy Jackett: [00:08:28] Oh, it's very fun. So, uh, I think for me, um, you know, I've always. Pushed for the, uh, it doesn't matter what you're using, just film and Mike, a video. So there's a, there's a lot of wankery, which, I mean, we're playing into it with this sort of YouTube look of the asset, which is great. But in terms of filmmaking, there's a lot of wine Curry around.
Do you need this gear you need? Yeah. The way we've come to is we have a business that offers high end production for clients and brands. And so at that point, we put ourselves under a lot of pressure and stress to create the best possible. Content for our clients.
Josh Janssen: [00:09:18] And then we start making
Tommy Jackett: [00:09:19] stuff. Well, because you're so, like, I feel like if someone asks me to do something like a friend asked me recently, can you film at my wedding?
And I was like, I'm a guest. Yeah. And the best way to articulate it is dude, we do, we do something at a standard that invokes us to come in a certain. Uh, posture. That means we get an outcome. I need to say it like this, but I was like, wait, when I'm doing something, it's like, I have to go full hog or there's the opposite where it's, there's no pressure and I can just be filming anything.
And if it works, it does. If it doesn't, it doesn't matter. But you can't do that for clients. And so when you're using high-end equipment, it's like, fuck, I'm going to get this right. It is one belief, but the other belief is also, well, if you lower all that barrier and you don't have to be too so concerned about absolutely everything and you can just come at it with a fine approach, using something as cheap as a camcorder.
It's going to bring a different vibe to it. Yeah.
Josh Janssen: [00:10:27] And the other thing too is like we grew up using cam quarters. And there is something. So the optical zoom is great, so you can zoom in on things, but also we wanted something that, uh, Jess could use as well. So even if you're not a filmmaker or come from that sort of world, you can pick it up.
Be creative film staff as a team sport. Okay.
Tommy Jackett: [00:10:50] It's actually easier than a mobile phone, definitely because like, these are 250 bucks and. They really go call it if you film it in the right way, like the sound is amazing. It really annoys me because it's like we have to work hard when we're using cinema cameras to make sure everything's spot up, which you get a different.
Josh Janssen: [00:11:11] And so, uh, Jay Bay has just posted today, the official intro of cam quarter club. And the idea will be that we'll be doing regular videos. As soon as we have an idea, we'll film it, edit it, get it out. And then we'll have a YouTube channel where you can go and watch the whole thing, which is great as well.
Tommy Jackett: [00:11:30] Yeah. I mean, yesterday's video was about your, your bloody books and then will now become a great asset to them business.
Josh Janssen: [00:11:39] Yeah. That'd become a library, which is great. We actually got a few, um, uh, people damming us about that as well, uh, to commenting, uh, I want a book. Well, no, cause at the end of it, You also talked about my maple syrup.
And so, uh, why he is interested in bringing his own container by wine so he could pay per liter.
Tommy Jackett: [00:12:05] Is this fucking like the health food stores that have the honey machines or the peanut butter that you grind and pay per
Josh Janssen: [00:12:13] weight? Like the sauce or whatever? Uh, Alex said that, uh, we could just buy some from Costco.
Tommy Jackett: [00:12:19] Which is probably get an absolute bucket load fat Friday, tomorrow. I'm going to get you something maple syrup inspired. Okay. I know. I like
Josh Janssen: [00:12:29] that idea. Can I guess absolutely
Tommy Jackett: [00:12:31] not pancakes. Yeah. That is the go-to for maple syrup. Yeah, but no. What
Josh Janssen: [00:12:37] else could, what are three other things you could use maple syrup for?
Uh, you can use
Tommy Jackett: [00:12:40] it on wings, wings. Sorry, sorry. I'm fried. I was thinking begging the F um, fried like a breakfast with bacon. Oh yeah. Um, and French toast. It goes, it's almost like this savory and then you're adding the sweet into, um, so there's one. Uh, what else? Cooking, cooking. What would you like some kind of a dessert?
Oh, on top of ice cream. That's I never done that. Don't with nuts. Fuck, please, please. It's a special at our house. Uh,
Josh Janssen: [00:13:09] another Vermont fact, Ben and Jerry's. Started in Vermont, have a maple syrup flavor. Um, the other thing they don't say soft serve. If you ask for a soft serve, they'll laugh. You out of a shop anywhere in Vermont, they don't know what soft serve is.
They call them creamies trainees creamy. Doesn't that just sound so much better. Creamies don't want to go out to the park.
Tommy Jackett: [00:13:33] We'll get it kind of creamy. Let's get a little creamy. Creamy is nice. Um, anyway, can people get involved in the camcorder club?
Josh Janssen: [00:13:41] Yeah. So send us an email hight. The daily talks that are coming you interested, maybe you're a filmmaker.
Who's wanting to go out and do more staff record
Tommy Jackett: [00:13:49] things. So if you're a filmmaker who has purchased a camera, you know, within the vicinity of 10 to $15,000 and you haven't made a personal video in the last year, Take a look yourself and then buy a camcorder and so drop that expectation yourself son.
And
Josh Janssen: [00:14:06] so, uh, you had the cam quarter mug. We also have a bunch of other, uh, pieces of merch at the moment. Uh, we will send a secret link to anyone. That emails us for the merchant link. So we've got a few things. We've got a hoodie. Yeah. We have a mug. We have one other t-shirts stickers. So we have a few things, but we need to set up a sort of site.
So in the meantime, it's very exclusive. If you email us high@thedailytorture.com, we will send you a secret link to a store to go and buy your very own camcorder
Tommy Jackett: [00:14:40] merge. Love that. Love that, but watch this space. Watch the
Josh Janssen: [00:14:44] space, things, things are, uh, things are happening, but it's like, what did you film as a kid?
Do you remember? Like, were you film
Tommy Jackett: [00:14:52] guy and mom and dad had a, um, I've still got it. It's actually down stairs. Um, it's a Handycam that's like probably three times the size of this. There was ones that almost fit a full tape in it, but I did full VHS. Was that it? Yeah.
Josh Janssen: [00:15:08] Well, there was the other one where it had the, remember you had the VHS.
And it was like a tape. It was like a whole, like a micro SD card card in, it was
Tommy Jackett: [00:15:17] like a tape deck in a tape. And then you put that tape into your VCR to me, HHS PCR. Um, so we had one of those, uh, and there was my brother's birthday. There was some random stuff on a farm, but then I had, um, My F I mean, I seem quite privileged for my first one.
I guess it's like a first Digi cam was cinema. Yeah. Yeah, no, no. Aria. Alexa had this app now I had this tiny little blue. Blue thing looks like Kodak automat. It looked like a , but it was like blue see-through. And so you could see some internals of it sort of like just cover the dark inside. Yeah. So it did digital photos, one megapixel, whatever it was, but then digital video and you could do things like reverse mode.
And so I'd get my mate up in the cupboard and you'd jumped down and then would reverse it. Like he's jumping up backwards up into the cupboard. And so deck was the big
Josh Janssen: [00:16:18] one. So Kodak can yet, and, and it was a, um, I had one that was like blue or whatever. It looked like. You'd put it in the water, but you could be the same one.
And, um, yeah, they, uh, they had their own Kodak software where you put them onto the computer. Yeah,
Tommy Jackett: [00:16:34] that must've been the same one, dude. It was very cheap.
Josh Janssen: [00:16:37] The other one was game boy. So game boy came out with a. Expansion. So it looked like a game, but the cartridge would go in and it was a
Tommy Jackett: [00:16:45] little, I was a Lynch and it was like a CTS ed sort of, you could move it yourself.
That
Josh Janssen: [00:16:51] would have been like one of the first selfies that I ever got. I mean, you can, um, can Bodhi, uh, can Bodhi mentioned Google home? Like does Bodhi know about Google home? Hey
Tommy Jackett: [00:17:04] Siri. Hey. Hey daddy, can you ask. Can you ask, uh, can you say play red light green light on Spotify? Yes,
Josh Janssen: [00:17:15] because I feel like kids are going to do this at a very young age.
Now they're going to know Siri. They're going to know, like, if they know how to tap YouTube, they're going to know how to say voice prompts. Okay. Like you would almost have to turn it off if you were in a household, because could you imagine the punch ons when we were kids? Would have happened with three boys in the house or you'd walk
Tommy Jackett: [00:17:38] past and just whisper.
Yeah. And it just shut
Josh Janssen: [00:17:41] David with the lights and all that sort of thing. Like it would have been a real issue. Hey,
Tommy Jackett: [00:17:45] Google, turn down lots and tell me he's right. Yeah, that'd be Simon. Wow. It's the class. It's the hot water. It's the modern day. Hot water jar.
Josh Janssen: [00:17:59] Is there the call? I feel like the new, um, The new version of the hot water thing would be, uh, being bumped out of your streaming service because there's too many people in the account
Tommy Jackett: [00:18:10] that could be, I mean, still people using the internet when there's multiple devices online,
Josh Janssen: [00:18:15] the phone thing. Well, that was obviously a big one.
Have habit. You should only have one person on the phone and you pick it up and you would hear
Tommy Jackett: [00:18:21] core waiting back in the day. Like. Knowing that there's a call coming through and not answering, but then the person in the house is like, mate, I know they're calling, Jenny
Josh Janssen: [00:18:31] just texted me and she's been trying.
And she just spent her 40 cents to let me know that the phone's not answering the equivalent.
Tommy Jackett: [00:18:39] Right. Kids like me is a kid back in the day using text message. There was no such thing as an iMessage or any of that shit. You had to press the button, say, say, what is it Z, um, w one has ABC to it, blah, blah, blah.
I don't know. I haven't, that would actually be a
Josh Janssen: [00:18:57] fun experiment for us to apply is to get some knockers and see who can text the quickest
Tommy Jackett: [00:19:02] I could touch type. I didn't have to look at it back in the day. I knew how many times to press it. Oh yeah, for sure. Uh, nine is w. Uh, so you could have gone two, three, four is H two.
Like I knew how to do it and it was amazing. So my point is that there was so much time spent in text message for four wash learning how to fucking touch type on text. Now think about the effort, put in. So voice it's like everyone, a lot of people speak. And so if you just talk it, so hopefully it can be channeled into some kind of more, um, beneficial skill over something as silly as just like touch typing.
Josh Janssen: [00:19:49] So what's the skill then. So if you had to give a Bodhi three skills for the future,
Tommy Jackett: [00:19:56] so you like take learning how to my mum did a typewriting course. There's not a kid doing a T maybe. I mean, I don't, I, my time writing course MSN messenger, I think that,
Josh Janssen: [00:20:07] I think like that is a, that's a big thing. I think that we almost missed it in a bad way where it's like, okay, I can use all your fingers.
Oh, that's good. I can, I
Tommy Jackett: [00:20:18] can't. You can't. You have to look at it.
Josh Janssen: [00:20:21] No, no, no, no, no, but that's not touched or touch typing is using every finger. I don't know if that's touched topic. Yes.
Tommy Jackett: [00:20:29] So, Hey Siri, what is touch typing?
Oh, touch typing is a style of typing. Although the phrase refers to typing without using the sense of sight to find the keys specifically, a touch typist will know their location on the keyboard, through muscle memory. The term is often used to refer a specific form of touch typing that involves placing the eight fingers in a horizontal row, along the middle of the keyboard and having them reach for specific other letters.
Josh Janssen: [00:21:08] No, no, no. That's what I'm saying. So for instance, if you were doing the typing pain on the keyboard, which finger are you using?
Tommy Jackett: [00:21:18] Um,
It shouldn't take this long. I do use my middle, but here's the thing I don't go. So we haven't learnt textbook. You know what, my three, I would, my resting is my middle finger, my ring finger, and my index finger resting on the three keys because that's how you played Counter-Strike back in the day. Well, so yeah, up
Josh Janssen: [00:21:43] down.
So, no, um, usually microphone please.
Tommy Jackett: [00:21:47] W a yeah. Use your left hand though. Yeah. And so it was the up, down left right up was that was Counter-Strike. And so I spent a lot of time playing Counter-Strike as a kid. And so I would hold my mouse and you'd go forward and back. But so what's happened is I go to that and I hold my hand at the, like, I'm about to be ready for a gunfight Counter-Strike but
Josh Janssen: [00:22:11] so if you have a look at the, um, like there's old diagrams
Tommy Jackett: [00:22:14] online yeah.
I'm saying, they say, put your four foot eight fingers. Through the center line. And then that w that is your home base. And from there, it is about, but
Josh Janssen: [00:22:28] you've got any that's I think the touch typing where we don't do it, which would be great is really utilizing all the things. How many minutes do
Tommy Jackett: [00:22:37] you think you can do one to do?
Yeah, I don't use my little fingers at all, or I use my, when I went to the,
Josh Janssen: [00:22:45] so words per minute test, here we go. Uh, so George did this the other day typing test.com.
Tommy Jackett: [00:22:52] A lot of pressure doing great on the show.
Josh Janssen: [00:22:54] Uh, medium text. All right, so you get one minute,
Tommy Jackett: [00:22:59] one minute. It's a long time to be typing.
Josh Janssen: [00:23:04] It's either one minute, three minutes, five minutes or 10 minutes. Let's go one minute. Okay, so you grabbed
Tommy Jackett: [00:23:10] this, all right. You have to give commentary or something.
Josh Janssen: [00:23:14] Okay. So he's got the keyboard and, uh, let me know when you starting get comfy.
Tommy Jackett: [00:23:20] Here we go. I'm comfy. So we're just looking at the lap stop.
I've gone. I've gone AWD. That's my three fingers. Here we go. Start typing. And so what do we do here? Write down as you go, I guess
Josh Janssen: [00:23:35] this great. So he's typing right now. He gets one minute to do it.
Tommy Jackett: [00:23:42] Uh, fuck that
Josh Janssen: [00:23:45] I should actually get the handicap
Tommy Jackett: [00:23:50] factor. This is advantage on you. This is your laptop.
Josh Janssen: [00:23:55] Just filming a little bit on the camcorder.
Tommy Jackett: [00:23:58] Now this is fucked up. Fuck this completely dude, keep going. This is your laptop by the way.
Hang on. No, I've cooked it.
Josh Janssen: [00:24:13] I know how he's going to play. He's going to pretend like he cooked it and then he'll beat me. No, no, no
Tommy Jackett: [00:24:19] colors. I just spelled that wrong. Cause at once the American
Brown might, you meant it. This is a podcast. You get to talk, dude. You're not gonna talk. No going, huh? Why not gonna talk? No, no, no, it's done. All right. That's fuck. What'd you get, so you were using a Mac book. I got 2323 and that's okay. That's using your Mac book pro. I reckon I'd be better on my
Josh Janssen: [00:24:50] keys upstairs.
You could imagine me, um, uh, So we'll reveal what JB got as well after this? No, he
Tommy Jackett: [00:24:57] got really, he got much better, but he's at, he's at his desk on his computer doing his thing.
Josh Janssen: [00:25:03] So you got a 74% accuracy. You had eight Ms. Type two words. Yeah, I went back on. Okay. Ready? Okay. So I won't, I'm not going to be that quick just to be clear.
Okay.
Tommy Jackett: [00:25:18] All right. Hang on. I was trying to not look at all. Is that the idea? Like I only went back cause flat keyboard, very flat dirt. There's a guy that complains about keyboards. You know, you can relate to me, baby. I'm going to film him as well. So he's going he's off and running. He's um, take a little smirk on his face when he's dumb on his dumb face.
It's um, that's all happening. It definitely it's really, it is hard. It's about the tools. This is your computer. I'm
Josh Janssen: [00:25:55] not using my, uh, my,
Tommy Jackett: [00:25:58] the, the cable that you've, um, that you've been banned from using in the office. That one,
this is great. Maybe not for your listening, but what's at stake or who's what do we win? George is the winner. He did really well the other day.
Surely we're coming to a close is a lot of pressure when you see the words light up into color, and then you realize that was wrong. Okay. So you got,
were you looking at the case? No.
Josh Janssen: [00:26:38] No. So yours took a screen grab of yours. Do you remember what you got in? Hang on. Here we go.
Tommy Jackett: [00:26:44] 70, 70% accuracy.
Josh Janssen: [00:26:46] All right. So you got 74% accuracy. Yeah. 23 words per minute, which was
Tommy Jackett: [00:26:54] very low.
Josh Janssen: [00:26:58] Um,
Tommy Jackett: [00:27:01] okay. Ready? You got more words in the minute?
Josh Janssen: [00:27:04] 98%
Tommy Jackett: [00:27:05] accuracy. Fuck. Yeah.
Josh Janssen: [00:27:08] 49 words, permanent. That's still very slow. Yeah. And so, um, and so I'm going to, George just sent me a text message. George got 69 words per minute, but it was a bad day for him. He had a hundred percent accuracy. That's not bad. And he uses all the correct fingers because he's not a baby.
He also did a typo there. Um, I mean, this is, this is a classic, like kids in it. Um, you know it class. Yeah, yeah. Battling, I know that radio Mike. Uh, gets, he goes over 120 or something. Huge numbers, Allie Abdel. Um, the YouTuber does great videos. He studied medicine in Cambridge, Cambridge, junior doctor. He, um, prides himself.
He, I think he even had a key Cron keyboard at some point. Look,
Tommy Jackett: [00:28:05] yeah, I know I lost, but if you're flexing on your fucking word count, well it's, do you know
Josh Janssen: [00:28:12] what the average typist is? So what did you get. 23. Yeah, I got 49. The average is 36.
Tommy Jackett: [00:28:21] So I'm blessed. I'm below average. Yeah. Look, I've had that my whole life and to do all right,
Josh Janssen: [00:28:27] so I'm under fluent, not fast, not pro just fluent.
Hmm. Um, so anyway, that's, that's fun, isn't it? But, uh, do you know why, uh, the QWERTY keyboard is set out the way it is?
Tommy Jackett: [00:28:39] Um, now I have heard this before. What is it? Do you know what someone's told me?
Josh Janssen: [00:28:47] So you, it, when
Tommy Jackett: [00:28:50] you tell me and I'll forget tomorrow, um,
Josh Janssen: [00:28:52] some also average, how would you do it if you were
Tommy Jackett: [00:28:54] setting up, set it out a, B, C, D, F G.
Why not? It just doesn't make sense. Why not? It's probably influenced by the QWERTY keyboard that it seems to work. I E I O U a. No just same words.
Josh Janssen: [00:29:11] Um, no, it was, it was actually the slow typist down. So, uh, so with typewriters, when you're dealing with sort of mechanical elements, you'd like actual moving parts.
And so if you typed too quickly, you would create issues, you'd create jams. And so by doing QWERTY, it was a way of slowing the typist down a little bit so that they wouldn't. Jam the typewriter.
Tommy Jackett: [00:29:39] That is interesting. Is it like you thinking that oil needs to be an air fryers and is it oil compartment?
Josh Janssen: [00:29:46] Sure. Would you imagine me being the guy to buy a typewriter?
Tommy Jackett: [00:29:51] Yeah, I remember we had one, I think, many years ago, but
Josh Janssen: [00:29:55] imagine the screenplay Sunday was still around.
Tommy Jackett: [00:29:58] Yeah. I imagine it'd be sad.
Josh Janssen: [00:30:02] Scan it. Olin. You still wouldn't have to worry about final. Just still wouldn't use it. No, I would use it a lot. I mean, like, they're quite cool.
MCAT, like getting one of the ones that . So it actually like, Oh,
Tommy Jackett: [00:30:14] like semiautomatic, you want one of the punk, you know, you've hit a liner in, like, I can send you do it with scissor, hands,
Josh Janssen: [00:30:23] spelling, mistakes on a typewriter. Do you know how to pack space?
Tommy Jackett: [00:30:28] Is there a, some button that Watts it out? What does it do?
What does it do?
Josh Janssen: [00:30:34] I'd be very surprised.
Tommy Jackett: [00:30:36] What a nightmare. Yeah. Well,
Josh Janssen: [00:30:39] what do you think it does?
Tommy Jackett: [00:30:42] It's something good. Something to do with like a whiteout or no, it's like, it's a time machine. It takes you back
Josh Janssen: [00:30:48] a second. Um, I think that you just have to deal with it anyway. Uh, it's a daily talk show. If you enjoy the show, please leave us a review on Apple podcasts.
