EP 997
Very low barrier to get into the drone squad. We've committed to do the daily talk show for 10 years. I had guys put it in the calendar. Just like to check the temperature in the room. I told you my squeegee story.
It's the daily talk show episode 997 eighties at 1000 week. It is happening. What is going on? Uh, I'm uh, Just fixing up my, uh, my hair a little bit. What's the word? disheveled. Disheveled wild. Uh, no, no, just, I just feel my glasses are a bit dirty as well. Well, nothing pisses me off, like, you know, I can't mention any of this stuff that you're mentioning the dirty glasses.
Have you seen that? Yeah, no, that's true because I didn't think any of it. Okay, good. I mean, you put a bit of hair out the front of your hat. Yeah. Which is a conscious decision. Yes. Because. I put, I put all my hair back. It is a new thing though. Is if you sort of young kids that get their hat on. Yeah. But they just like some kids just push some hair out the front of their cat that's like forward.
But I, yes, I do that every time. Like my French, but like that. No, no, no. I think it looks good on you, but like, I'm going to start doing it. So you're competing with. Well, your hairstyle isn't made for it, is it? No. No. Just look like a 14 year old email that you actually look like your mom. Do I? Yeah. When you wear your hair like that, I think it's just the hair slightly over the Brown or something.
I'm just looking at your eyes. Quick observation for you. Uh, bonds. Soy. Yeah, they do soy milk. Very well-known soil brand here in Australia. They also do, uh, almond milk looks very similar the container. And they've had to say on the contaminant, no, no soy in this. And when I'm just being a bit dumb and looking on the shelf, I just say soy, like, all I see is trying to avoid soy RC.
All I see is the word soy. I bought some soy bond. Soy. Yeah, sorry. Sorry. I bought some almond milk bonds. Soy brand is a Jess. Uh, I dunno, but just loves it. I just tasted it by itself. Tastes like soy milk. Okay. That tastes like soy milk. So if you're a soy milk person that is sick, avoiding soy, go try the Bond's soy almond milk because it just tastes like soy milk.
Do you know her drink? Soy milk pain in the asses screw to Derrick he does. He's been drinking soy milk for 25 years. We've talked about this skirt a days. Yeah. And so I got him coffee in the morning. We played golf and he said, I want to saw it. Yeah. Oh, that's nice. I was very surprised. So I said to him, skirt, last night, I was talking to him on FaceTime.
So now I'm going to go play golf if you're interested. And he said, ah, yeah, I'm 80% interested. That's strong odds. That's what I was thinking. 80% is I've confirmed, but there's a 20% chance it could cancel based on some sort of issue. Anyway, then I went home, I went to book cause I'm now a member at a golf club.
And so I was doing the booking and I thought, I'll see if George's wanting to play. George was keen to play. And then I called skirt her and said, Oh, I was going to say, Hey, do you want me to book it? Didn't answer. I was like, okay, it's all over. He doesn't want to apply. Went to book was about to press confirm Skoda Kohl's and he says he was a hundred percent even.
He just couldn't find his golf clubs. Ah, okay. That's the 20%. But he had, he had confidence. Cause if you, if, if you were unsure of you golf club, whereabouts. You wouldn't have that. You wouldn't say I'm 80%. Yeah. Anyway, like nine 30, a couple of hours later texted me a photo of golf clubs in the back of maybe's factory or something.
It's just like a Ryan going back to his shop. Yeah, just randomly in the back. But, um, it was a lot of stuff. He has a lot of stuff. 7:07 AM was tee off time. Did he ride his e-bike to it? Nana in his van drive yet, but, um, the guy who was pumping, it was pumping there. Was it? Yeah, there was a guy from, uh, Moondog brewing.
Uh, he was playing it around by the looks of it. He was in this like, um, Hmm. How do you know that there's playing around? Yeah, he was at the time at the golf course. And you spoke to him? Uh, yeah, I did have some words. That sounds like he had a car it's like this old school, like, um, military looking thing, but like re like sort of all metal interesting sort of car.
And I said to him, Oh, that's sick. I said, is that a straight legal, but yes. Yeah. I'm so sorry. I'm trying to work out how you knew he was from Moondog. Because it had Moondog on the side. So it was a Moondog car. How's a branded car. Yeah. But like old school. That's what was in there now do not say that brand new car doesn't pay off.
I think it does. Yeah. So talking about it, he's getting free. Add your own dog is one in Abbotsford, one in fucking Preston or something. The daily talk show would be great on a hot rod. That'd be cool. I mean, but we could do that. Your dad. Yeah. He's got an Impala. So did he absolutely would not. No, I know he wouldn't but would, um, like if we put it out, so if we got it 500 bucks, he said, we've got 500 bucks.
We've got this stick on. It's like a flame magnet. Would, would he be Ave because he's the, what is he of the. He's in the hot rod club at what? He's the, of the hot rod club. Yeah. I can't remember. He's um, he's not the treasurer. he's the vice president. Mike Pence. Yeah, my pants. Yeah. Mike Pence was the vice president Harris.
He's Biden of the Obama administration. Yes. Yeah. Um, well I'm sure he could fucking move a few, move a few things around for us, but I'm saying would anyone, do you think actually acceptance a up for 500? I would stick them on the side of my car. You wouldn't remember? I was trying to get a deal for a full rap for the daily talk show with our faces on it and said, if I could get a deal, would you put it on your car?
And you said, no. I did say no. Would you say yes nowadays? No. I'd still say no. Really yet. It's a bit toy. Fuck. That's old school toy toy. What did you say to me today? That was old school. You said an old school saying, and I was like, that's, that's good. You said something to me, but saying something's toy.
Ah, dude, that so toy, like what? Maybe like whack, so wax, so toy. Um, But I tell you what, uh, magnetised branding's on side of cars, bit tacky jaw. Do they work? I think so. A guy got a download of his podcast, uh, from a magnetized sign on his car over the weekend. I gave it to him. I drove, I drove the car. That was like a, um, looked like a, sort of a big van.
And on the back it said, so. Podcast by John with John McKenna. And that was like, it was literally that's, I'm holding up his little sign now, and this is his podcast artwork. And it's got like this little head and a little microphone and it's called so. Podcasts with John McKenna and I, um, jumped onto, it said six ratings, but I was like this legend.
I drive up beside him and I saw he had a disability and the car was like, um, he he's in electric wheelchair. So he was right up the front end. He's. Cards kit it out, but I was like, that's sick dude. So went back, listened to his first episode. He has, um, was bought he's. I think he's like fifties or sixties, but he was born with a condition and it doesn't have the use of his arms or legs and, um, for use in.
So he's, uh, but it was described podcast total over a mom. No I didn't, but I'm talking about here. So I liked it. Good guy. Just, I just love that it, it came about from. Driving past him. Yeah. Yeah. It's not often people that are putting their podcast. Like it would be, you would get people. So do you know that?
Um, we had, uh, we had the business, we didn't my old business partner and I had the stripping agency school did not have a stripping. It was go to Aussie spunks and Ozzie spunks, uh, was a male entertainment agency. Had a great yellow pages ad. Great. Flash site costs way too much. Yeah. 10 grand. Wasn't a good business cards, but also had a decal on the back of a Mercedes full drive.
Well, I mean, Melbourne geek, my blog had a decal for that. Did it do anything dunno? It was on the back of my Ford, laser 97 Ford laser, any, um, any number on their website, the website wasn't even the website. It was a character tour of may. In like a blue stensul with the words, Melbourne geek. Fair enough.
Yeah. And would anyone know the call to action? The idea was that people would Google it and that's what I was thinking would be it's like mowing cake. What is that? Yeah, um, we had Oh, four, eight, eight. Spanx. Oh four, I spanked. So that's good. So I got that number through Telstra. I worked out what Spanx was it?
Is there any number, you know, starting with whatever, but ending in spanked. And I got it. But the problem was, if you have a business lie, it's the type of business we had. It was a, you know, stripping business entertainment agency, whatever people would call while they see it. Tradies. Yeah, fuck had a really high, yeah.
When kids have that P word, why are they doing that? Um, projecting. Projecting. Yeah. But, um, the tr the yellow pages ad did work. I have talked about that, but I was talking to someone recently about how much we love the yellow pages. And I used to, I used to, I used to call up pet shops, uh, lawn mower shops, looking for motorized scooters.
Just how much just call and ask pricing. Well, that's a skill, that's a good, soft skill to start just walking through, calling people, communicating, even if you don't want to buy something, just having a convo. We talking about soft skills yesterday. They're lacking, but thinking about kids. These these days, they're not calling to ask pricing.
Would you do it for this? Like we used to going into a telegram, they're going to, they're outsourcing it to India, to Philippines because Tim Ferris told them to, and now they get sent back a spreadsheet of all the different pricing. It's funny with the, from, from playing golf, I'm starting to get into it.
And histologic mode of thinking of all the things that would happen when I applied golf. Coins are a big thing. Clients just having coins. Well, I got it. Scratchy, a dollar scratchy. I told you the other day at a service station. Um, back in the day I used to buy scratchies every now and then probably one.
I've probably won 20 bucks in total, over my years in scratchies. Um, didn't have a coin. So what describe to this, your finger now? Well, I tried a pen lead and I was like my keys. Now, what made you think of getting a scratchy? When I walked up to the. I walked into, I mean, we're talking a lot about advertising signs.
Signage signage is what got me. I'm at the petrol station, filling up, looking at the sign that says petrols a million bucks. And then I look over and say that there's a sign of the tat Tatts lotto guy, telesales. I was like, that's interesting. That's quite American, like seven 11 cell. Scratches and shit.
And in the U S and then I walked in and paid for my petrol million bucks, and I got a $1 scratcher. I pay $1,000,001. So got my scratchy. What do you mind just saying that I paid a million dollars for my picture. She was $1, and so I use the scrap. I just was like, it was there. I was like, that's pretty funny.
Haven't used one of those in ages, but I didn't have a coin. No coins. Don't whose got coins. Yeah. Well, this has got any coins. No, I don't have any cash. I even have stopped carrying around my wallet. Like I don't have my wallet on me right now. Couldn't tell you where it is. Excellent. Um, uh, but no, I was remembering at the pro shop at the end of a game of golf.
Every single time. I'd have to give 50 cents. To the pro shop for what I could call, call my mom. I remember phone boxes. Yeah. Even the phones. Yeah. Orange ones. Like the ones that were in places, Dan, you know, basketball stadium. Yeah. Just, uh, just a phone in the remember, sometimes it would ring if a phone should ring.
You would freak the fuck out or cause you think you see the phone box it's like sound phone booth. It was always, there was, there was, there was, um, ways of hacking those. Yeah. I remember using some kind of, I heard about some way of doing it and I got some number sequence I remember doing. I can't remember what the we did.
You could call different. So you could, so typically if a, if a pay, you find your mind, remember this, if a payphone called. Um, a phone that had a caller ID, it would say payphone. Yeah. On it, which I thought was always interesting. We used to get, uh, the first half a second. Oh, that's right. I call that mum would know him down the station.
Ah, that's just that just have to get in quick, but you didn't get charged for it. There was also 1-800-REVERSE. Yeah. Did you have the card on the card? It had the numbers are like the, you had to do, Oh, sorry. Sorry. There was um, Oh, Oh man. To remind me of trying and phone cards. Yeah. Some cards were just money loaded onto a card, but you would use an, a payphone, but they became collectors.
And my brother used to collect them and I, and it was always like, we went around looking for phone cards, left at phone boxes and you'd find in that be like there's was probably one with a koala on it. Or there was one like about the Commonwealth. Interesting a static date. Well, that reminds me, I don't know if you remember this, but, um, at school photocopy cards, nah, never had one.
Never had one. I know the machine there. So, you know, when you would go to the library and you would need to photocopy something, you'd get them from the counter. You'd get them from the library. Yeah. The counter of the library or whatever, and would give it to you to you activate it. Yes. Yeah. I remember that.
I have that to swipe and I loved like, I photocopied way more than probably you needed the most just. Just rent. I was always obsessed with printing stuff. Like, um, yeah, I, um, I found, I found the URL. This would have been, um, 2001 tell I was 11 years old. And I remember finding that the teacher, like on the, um, she was creating crosswords and I thought that this was the biggest, like, um, security breach.
That she had left the URL at the bottom of where like the software used to make the crosswords. And I remember like going HTTP, colon slash slash you know, and put in the website and I downloaded the app. And so I could create my own crosswords. Can I created all these crosswords and then printed them out.
And said, Hey, if anyone finishes their schoolwork early, cause that was the whole thing you could do. Classwork. I said I've printed some crosswords forever. Is that when you were teaching, there was so much of that goose. So I never really read as a kid, but my brother, my brother had all the goosebumps books.
And so, yes. And if I knew that it was going to be a wet time table, I would put time to have a sequence. I would put. Uh, as many books into my bag as I could, and then I would place them on a shelf and I would be the library. So you couldn't go to the library or whatever. I was basically borrowing out my brother's books for fun.
Really? Yeah. Just for, just love that sort of wasn't it. You couldn't even say it was business related stuff. It was just sort of, I think it's power related. It's just like fucking Jerry. Oh, me. Where's that book. Where does it make you loved having something on? Yeah. Or just, um, your average, Jason, just to surprise and delight, you know, what's the delight.
Guess what? Fuck. No. Well, some of whom your book know, some of them loved reading that would like really get into it. Yeah. But, um, it's interesting, like, yeah, that the, the whole phone thing, then the Hubba Bubba comes up, like all of these different things at the same time. The, um, I mean fashion-wise brain, Eye-Sync so many kids with mallets.
They're, they're huge, real big. Looks done. I'm not a fan of them. I, I quite, there are some good ones, but I wonder why I can't get it. Cause I th I think they don't think it looks good. I don't see doing it ironically. Yeah. Which is fashion. Like fashion can be ironic. It's like it's up to the person. Yeah.
Subjective the bit. If the person thinks, you know, sacrificing a small lamb on a white. Piece of cardboard is art. You can't say it's not art. Say, you can say, it's the art you don't like. So fashion is like, there's whatever you wear is what obviously you think is okay. Um, but yeah, the mother, I don't know about, I mean, I've never rat tails, fringes as in single like strands of hair.
Like not like a fringe that just goes across the front. But fuck, man, these were all haircuts under his kids. Shaving sheet in the side of your head, outside of the blade stuff. I didn't do many of those things. Blips. So like tip cap. You were the, yeah. You would have classic despite spiky hair with gel so much.
I use some mums. Yeah. It may take you so much in your hair. I remember I used half a tub of wax. Eric. And that's why I have folliculitis today. Like, it's just, it doesn't have to like utilize, but it was like, I just remember having, like, mum's trying to comb out the white she's like you just like, it was like, so sleeked back because it was what pissed me off anyone.
Like I've never, um, subscribed to you. Just need a 5 cent piece of shampoo, 5 cent piece. I mean, that's, um, That's pretty stingy. Yeah. It's like, okay. Just a little spot. It washes your hair twice in the one session. Really? I think that's a thing she's not using condition of the second time. No, I think there's like a doubling up.
You just do the both of them twice? Yeah. Okay. Mean you finish your washing your hair. Don't know a cup. Maybe once, twice weekly. I'd say twice, but then there might be. Every other day, every couple of days. A lot of effort. Yeah. I mean, I fucking can't remember the last time I washed my hair like that. Well, I w I wash mine hips.
If you get into the habit of, with shampoo, I just don't, it makes it too fluffy. Yeah. I like going a few weeks, but once I wash my hair and like, get it under and like, get it going without actual shampoo, but then I'm like, it just goes like fucking. Hmm, fluff look like a Bantam abandoned chicken. Let me play Bantam chicken there.
Just fluffy, fucking fluffy, fluffy pin on them. Um, Bantam chicken. Is it like a red? Nah, they've got like a little blue beak, blue little gobble, the bottom Bantam chicken. Hang on. Where are we? Because like midnight, for me being ups, getting up so early, like that's, that's like a, that's quite a bespoke Bantam, fluffy, fluffy head.
I had them as a kid, or this is, you know, young kids are rocking the band and these days it's no joke. It's definitely the look it's like, not like it's kind of light hair that is just kind of fluffed out.
Yeah, it's, uh, it's very fluffy. The, the, um, it's cute. One thing that I've been observing is like, um, so say like getting up early when I'm in the car, there's a moment where I'm like, Oh, this feeling. It's it could be a joyous experience or depressing feeling, as in thinking about like, when you traveling like that sort of like slightly tired, like it's still dark and it's cold could mean adventure run some of the most exciting times, or it could be going early to that shit job that you don't want to go to.
I just caught myself today being like, It was a little bit your far, because it was sort of new, it's only, I've only been to the golf early in the morning. A couple of times there was something where I'm like, ah, this is, I'm going to remember. I'm going to look back at this time, this time. Uh, I could imagine you, you will, because I think what you're saying is you'll lose.
It is why you say you look back on it or you forget, like when you start a new habit, It's all very novel. So even when we went to golf on Sunday and we played on the, in the golf carts at Albert Park and did all of that, I was saying to Jay Bay, it feels like we're on hold. Nice. And that's the best feeling that biddies that is fleeting.
So that's going to go soon. As soon as you play more, it's like anything you think the first month of doing this podcast. Yeah. It's so funny you say that because it was even like I'm going to the golf course. When we w when brain I went, she was like, Oh, it's like being on holidays or something. Like, it's just like a vibe and things are happening and it's that he's going to go away.
He's like, I want a hundred percent, I think, um, because it's good to find other moments. Like I was thinking, how do you, but if you chasing them, it's. You can argue in this there's action that you can put in that gets you there. But then the, the tricky bit, I mean, this is don't quit your shower. I just opened this book.
Show your work. Don't quit your show. Oh God. But it's a bit like because you and a lot of people would quit when they lose that feeling. I might not even be consciously thinking about that's the feeling they're getting. Well even, even think about, so we, uh, on Saturday had a meat Fest, uh, BMC team over at my place.
Good fun. You cooked a great, um, chicken, chicken, sorry. Spit chicken spit chicken spit. And I did a Comida, which is, uh, a mix of, uh, beef and lamb version, but yeah, it was great. Yeah, but I'm going, so we went to paraben market. Hmm. First time that I'd like been there properly, that I can remember and buying stuff and doing.
And how like, didn't that feel like, or an ally or something? Like, can I say, I, I it's. Because like we've had a bunch of those experiences, the growth that's the last, probably the last time I've shopped for groceries like that. Like, cause the Grove has its food. That's very true. But you know, there's just something like, Oh, what are we going to get?
Like, but the thing is that if you is Hollywood West Hollywood, West Hollywood, but if you, um, No, it's definitely there, there are things you can do. Did you feel it, like, did you feel like, Oh, this is, I liked it and I, and it's almost like I was showing my mates around because I was like, yeah, it's like through here, this is where I'll go.
Like I thought I was a tourist. Yeah. I'm sorry. Hey, I'm tourist guide with my friends, which makes you, I think people like being guides because it makes you feel like you can slip into holiday mode. This is what I love about going great ocean road with me. Yeah. Yeah. Like it is always the best time because it feels like your you're seeing it with their well, that's a, maybe there's a key there when it comes to more golf.
The idea is I played with scooter, Derek and George. Maybe it's about getting different people playing. So for instance, I message Pete and said, mate, when we taught Gronk, when we played, he's like, Oh yeah, Tuesday morning, which is good. Um, next week, um, And so, but that would be fun. Like just having those experiences with different people.
I think it's great. Yeah, definitely. Yeah. There's something about someone's first time seeing that, even though it's not yours, you're living vicariously through them. Yeah. So there's a question. What is something that we could do today? That will be our first time. Oh fuck. Tough one. I mean there's classes.
There's things you could pay for. Yeah. So just let's go simple. Uh, Um, have you climbed onto your roof at home? No, I haven't. Fuck. Dude. I used to spend a lot of time on the roof at a school school, across the road. I used to climb up the pipes, get onto the slate roof, climb up and in the middle, it was like a wage.
There was like a. Roofs went up and down into the middle and we go fuck the amount of balls up there. But I remember being up there seeing this is on the weekend, seeing some, like teachers in the yard, I was like, Oh, I felt so naughty. I felt so naughty, but, but it would probably also go onto the roof here at this building.
Yes. Well, there's even, um, I heard someone talking about how they used to work somewhere and they would sleep at work and they sort of had a nook that they could go and no one would see them for. Like you could be there for as long as you want. I'm doing something for the first time today, actually tonight, tonight, I'm, um, I'll be up light up real late.
We're buying a specific token on the blockchain. Um, my mates, it's just this investment that we're doing and we've destroyed three people that are in 150 USD. We've put into it with a 500 USD cap of being able to purchase tokens. And so it opens up and we have to get in the queue. It's all digital, but we've got to stay up till 12 and beyond to get into the queue at 11.
And the sale opens at 12. So if we buy them, we'll then be able to have. These tokens, that is like an investment that could go up. So that's a new thing. I don't, I've never done that before, but it's also like, that's probably, it's like a fun thing. Yeah. What does it do to your psychotic? Like the psychological sort of thing of it it's well, my mate is doing it with me, kale and, um, my dad's putting the money too.
And, um, we're going to go for dinner. Oh, that's fun. Then we're going to come back to the office. So we're going to have a bead down here. What are you going to have? Uh, I want to get a Palmer and for some reason I was seeking maybe the national, get a Palmer, go have a beer, come back to the office, get ready.
But other than that, it's fine. No, my dad's not dead. The slate would have been great. So that's what you're saying. Yeah. We're all three of us. He won't come. He wouldn't be fun. Why don't you ask him?
He actually just, it would be the boys now, my dad doesn't drink and he likes to go to bed early, but he's pumped about it. Um, but there's something about, so what, the essence of that I've stayed up late with a friend, but she's like, um, the equivalent of in the past, I've stayed up to get concert tickets or I've.
Woken up early to get something. Yeah, just drink some water. It's just, you know, it's just sitting there, uh, got up early to go somewhere. I've never been the person to line up for shoes. You know, you say sneaker, freakers, sneaker, free Fraker. See a bunch of them on shamble actually sitting in camping chairs overnight.
Or what about the people that wait for iPhones or grand final tickets? Like. Some people camp out for days, dude, this is my version of that. Yeah. But we get to do it from the warmth of, and what did we, I'm trying to think of it as, so one of the, if we were to deconstruct best moments of our lives, things that have happened to some of those moments, what stands out, like if you just like had a montage and things were happening, what would it be?
Oh, it's all the first traveling. A lot of it. Um, food watching a movie for the first time, disliked thinking, fine. This is the best thing ever made Amy, like all, you know, having a baby moments with birdie, all that shit. Great shit thing. That is life, but it's um, but yeah, I mean, the opposite of what we are saying is what's the, in this second.
How do you feel? How do you just not put, um, the positive or negative on it just is, well, even thinking about like the 24 hour stream. Yeah. Um, and we've got the a thousand minutes happening while we're doing that. That's it first this week? Yeah. A thousand minute thousand minutes. 16 hours, 40 minutes, or you've never, so don't quit your show, Austin Clay on this know what is he saying?
I mean, he's saying a lot of stuff here. But, um, every career is full of ups and downs. And just like with stories, when you're in the middle of living out your life in Korea, you don't know whether you're up or down or what's about to happen next. If you want a happy ending actor, Orson Welles wrote that depends of course, on where you stop your story.
There are no second acts in American life. But if you look around, you'll notice that not only are there second acts, there are third, fourth, and even fifth ones. If you're reading the obituaries every morning, but blah, blah, blah, you want a happy ending, wink twice. And like the cash outside. Is that a thing, but I guess you might just ask don't quit.
Don't quit. Don't quit. Golf is one this center saying don't quit the show because it's, it's a new thing every day. Haven't you haven't every moment you have not experienced, regardless of if you tried something before, because I think the net present, there's only now. I think there's definitely a risk in forgetting.
What I'm trying to do is because I'm always looking back. Being like, how amazing was that? How amazing was that? I'm trying to like bring it forward and being like, yeah. How sick that I got up early and did this, or like, yeah, there's a bit of danger in that. Not bad, you know, you might stay, but, um, in what way, it creating the lacking in the present.
So you look at saying how sick was it when I started golf versus. Going to the golf, the new experience of I'm saying that at present, I'm S I'm saying need to try and work out what the present moment is. So it's like finding, finding it. So the thing with the golf side of it, typically I would look back and be like, how Epic was that?
But it's like in the moment being like, this is awesome. How fun is this? But also reframing. Think about like getting up early in the morning morning, or when you just going through the steps of life versus saying, Oh, this is sick. Yeah. Sorry. 6:00 AM. Uh, the episode 1000 starts.
