It's the daily Talk Show Episode 112 happy Hump Day gronk What's happening? What's going on? Couldn't find
0:12
orange beanie now you've gone you've gone the old Marv, I call that you might have is that mom was only made like what's my mom Mom? You know mom from I think it's Marv Marv from home alone. Oh yes, Mr. Mom yeah mom from her line. I just don't understand how the fuck I'm losing shit when I'm not leaving the house.
0:37
Now is the den is the other guy not mom, the other guy. Okay, it was hairy, hairy. little hairy. That's it? Yeah, fuck you might you'll still lose shit. I mean, this is the thing you you were on total lockdown in Victoria as of tomorrow.
0:55
And it's tomorrow's meaning everyone's had to get the shift to
1:00
Give the last couple of days guardi you know, most people should be at home. But I went in had to grab a few things from the office. But I had that moment where I was grabbing things and like, oh, I'll grab that, oh, grab that. And then I had that realisation of I'm not gonna use anything I've just grabbed. It's like when you pack when you pack to go away overseas or on a holiday and you'd pack away that dress or wear those socks or wear that T shirt not you're not wearing anything. And so I feel like it's you think you think it will be one way but it's always the other. And so when you're at home, not leaving. You think you could easily find everything because you got everything so sorted. Yeah, but it's probably down the back of year couch for some reason. I don't know where it is. But I mean, talking minimalism. I've done a very good job of cleaning up my iPhone apps. Yeah, how many how many home like swipes. Do you have you
2:00
Good question. Good question. Good question. Here we go. So I'm on homescreen. It's one swipe two swipes, three swipes, three swipes, which means four screens
2:11
down to two. Wow I mean are you deleted folder this point no fault like it's cheating. If you've got folders I think I've got I've got one folder, which is like a utility folder. Yeah. But I think that this is I want to start a movement where let's use our iPhones as phones. Let's get rid of all of the apps just get get really pedantic with it to a point where if you need it, it will be fine. Look, it'd be a boring segment if I was to read through every app I have but because you've got started so can you please just read me your homescreen or one your one screen? No folder? homescreen Yeah. So anyone, Chrome LastPass clock, I can I can I can get rid of LastPass now that you have to another one clock camera notion setting
3:00
Things waking up MLB the Major League Baseball hooba spark which is our email client blinkist Google Home Scrivener which is where I'm writing my memoir. Remote for the Apple TV, YouTube studio, Google Photos, photos IMG YouTube Telstra voice memo contacts and then at the bottom there is a the phone function yet rakes calendar text message interesting I mean
3:38
that's I mean that's that's limited but what do you need what else do you need? Yeah remain I've got on the other screen there's monopoly and masterclass and pocket. Oh, you've got more strays, hang on. I thought you said you had one, two screens, two screens. Ah, I want to get a good one would be great. But still no folders. No folders. Okay, that's just it. Well, there is the utilities but I'm going to
4:00
Just looking at this now, I couldn't be more sort of firm on it. And I didn't mention on the show. I told you I didn't want to talk about it because it's not a big rah rah thing. But I'm not on my social media not really checking it. Did I tell you about the text message that I received last night or not a text message? It was an email. Yes. Yeah. I'm concerned. I mean, is it a bit of gear that you're asking me if I if you've told me or not because you told me this morning, but I'm worried because you've said you've actually off the show said to me, am I told you about this? And I'm like, Yeah. Are you forgetting what's going on about? Georgie boys, man?
4:39
I can't tell if you're doing good. Yeah, you told me I'm not telling you. You just forgot that you told me this morning. Yeah. Well, you tell the story. Now I'm gonna tell the story though. Cuz it's fucking great. I almost went along was like, Yeah, no, no, no, you haven't told me anything? Well, I'm sort of ruined the part of the part of it. I know. I got a lovely email that came through this
5:00
is one of the ones where it's like your your
5:03
phone, your telco somehow I actually don't even know how this works.
5:08
They give you an email address, that's your phone number at the telco.com. So it's a phone number at, you know, Telstra mobile or whatever, calm that are you Yeah, whichever, whichever it is. Anyway, so I've got the phone number, but it's been emailed to me. So I've received an email via fire a phone number. Yes. And I said, Hi, I sent him a messenger message and an instant message. I don't really know what I'm doing. So you're not sure if you get them? Are you okay? Thinking about my Victorian loved ones and sending virtual hugs? Was it a are the letter you the letter? So it's all written down, I will stop so but anyway, the That's bizarre, that is not a norm. I've never received one of those that she somehow worked out to do. It's like the
6:00
to text it's text to email. Yeah. And so like, it's amazing. I don't know how it's been done, but any one email address, can you tell? Can you give me the status? It's just at Optus mobile comm today. I know that for you, where did it come through to what email a personal email? Good question. I'm just going to look at where it's connected to my jaw with BIG MEDIA COMPANY email. Okay. Yeah, I don't understand that. So anyway, I did the classic thing where he is something that's interesting that I learned when I so when I decided to sort of take a little break on social media I was going in. And day one, I was getting all these fucking email notifications from Facebook, and LinkedIn and Twitter and Instagram saying, hey, you're missing out on all of this stuff. And so I went through and turned off all of those notify email notifications. You famously had a text message from Facebook. Remember you received like you thought it was spam, but it was actually them telling you about a post. Yeah.
7:00
sobers up. You just sent me here. You've just sent me one. I sent you an email. Yeah. And so I tell you I because I just had an idea of what was happened. So I've worked this out finish your story and I'll tell you how that I can message that happen. So anyway, the with the Facebook, turning off all the notifications. What I learned a few days ago was there is a feature within Facebook, which is enabled by the looks of it if you're using two factor authentication, which most people are nowadays, you have your phone number attached to your Facebook profile, right? Yes. Did you know that even if you don't have the phone number public as a default, the setting is that someone could type in your phone number into the Facebook search, and your profile will come up now? I don't believe it. Yeah, good stuff. Good stuff tonight. Yeah, that's what the so that when I was going through turning off my notifications,
8:00
It was like had it turned on that I was discoverable through my phone number. Okay so so I must have it off because I just did did mine into Facebook and I and I didn't try it see if it's if it works I'm curious. Let's find the sucker. And so anyway I am I gave I texted Bree the number that I got this email from searching Facebook I've never actually seen it work so maybe it's not a thing but I it was definitely in the settings and so anyway, I then go through my constant thing whereas like
8:33
numbers that I don't know freaked me out I fucking hate it.
8:37
Actually cold a number this this morning because I had a missed call. I was really proud of myself. I tried googling for half an hour to try and find them. Couldn't find out who it was. I just called it was a disconnected number. It must have been a telemarketer or whatever. Yeah, so I anyway, I gave it to Bree. She couldn't find it on Facebook this phone number. And so I just copy and paste the phone number into
9:00
My email client, and it's always a fuck around. Because in Australia, it's plus 614. And then it goes into the phone number. But you can also have it as like oh four at the start and not have the sixth one. And so some people put spaces between like every three numbers, some people don't. And so you have to try a few different searching options to be able to work out whether the number has ever been mentioned in email before. And yeah, I copied and pasted the number and I received one email that popped up my son. Very true. And it was George, God boy, Georgia boy. And it was not a recent
9:46
email. This was the first ever email that he sent me. Can you any 16 I think and so what did it say what did the email say? So he was just saying that he was a fan. Thank you.
10:00
A fan of what at that time? Yeah, exactly.
10:03
Just everything. Yeah. Now he'd listened to my interview with Ryan Shelton on just speaking. But anyway, I clicked on the resume and on the resume had references and there at the bottom is George's mum Kaz and her details to call and say cares was the one who sent you a lovely message and so they I email I texted care saying, Hey, guys, not checking socials at the moment. Got your message out? Yes, in Byron.
10:35
I mean, real power move not to write back to the email that it was rude, can you? Well, now I'll try maybe maybe. So I just worked out how you got an email from a phone number. And it's because I went onto my iPhone 11 great camera. On those phones. I just typed into as I was writing, I'm just like, I'll write a message and then I eat then I miss it.
11:00
In an email address, and that email address was yours. And so it's come through from my phone to you as an email. So you can send emails out of your iMessage or your messaging show. I just did it the way I just did that. If you received an email to your email, Josh, Yes, I did. Who did it say it came from? Your phone number at mobile? Yes, sir. Yes, this is I mean, we've, I know, Mr. 97, the the life hack guy. But I don't know if this is really life hack, but you can send emails from your text messaging app. But so if you do that on iMessage
11:39
Can I show it as an iMessage? Because that email address that you've got is not that I sent a message is not an iMessage account. Can you do it to Josh at Josh Johnson comm and see if that goes isn't as an iMessage. So I just received I tried to email you back.
11:55
And it said delivery is failed. So you can't send
12:00
If you receive a text message via email, you cannot email back. This is the dumbest feature I've ever seen. Yeah, so jayvees mum Kaz probably thought she was messaging me. Yeah. And so so you've just said hi in my iMessage Yep. But it's a different thread from our new our usual conversation, which is
12:25
that we've got all these texts in this thread. And so this is when you're away overseas when you're using only your email address for iMessage. So, I mean, you see why pick gronk get caught up in this as in like, you cannot work out why you've got seven text messages with one person going on.
12:43
It's unbelievable. It is who he is. Like, I feel like this is where, you know, people like our parents would get a bit stuck. I would have to call you to be honest to work out something.
12:56
My mom is
13:00
running an online course and making money. She has listened to Daniel Andrews and she's pivoted. She is used these unprecedented times to become an online course mogul. What is what is she doing? Arlene's?
13:21
She's using only fans because she couldn't work out how to use Patreon which is to say, No, no, no, no, it's got a good billing system. That's what she is doing. She's done the Gary Vee model Jab, Jab, Right Hook and a lot of she's doing it. She's yelling at everyone on LinkedIn. Know the Jab, Jab, Right Hook or Jab, Jab, Jab, whatever it is, is like give, give, give and then ask. And so mom has given she did 32 meditation lessons that she put out for free to her mailing list.
13:56
She's got, you know, MailChimp and sort of shoots them out.
14:00
So she's she's done 32 free courses to sort of help people throughout that first lockdown what service is that on?
14:12
She no she she just puts it I put them onto YouTube for and then she shoots over the link unless the law that she was getting huge amounts of listens on some other Oh, insight timer. Yes, she's made money from insight timer. I mean we need to work out we need to speak too much. She my mom needs to consult us about passive you know, passive income just that money while you're sleeping. She's selling stuff toys on the way.
14:38
They stop Etsy. No, no, she said this time. She has sold an online course for 10 weeks. It's a meditation programme one episode a week that she will deliver into your inbox and listed only for people who pay and she's already you know, signed about 12 people up. That's right.
15:00
100 bucks h for the course and goods like it. My I'm so impressed by mom. I'm so impressed by her like, what does she say? Put it down to you know, put it out there into the universe all all that
15:15
muscle
15:18
she's more of that wholesome hustle. Yeah, I did her Instagram post on the video where she does a signature at the start.
15:32
You rock be very
15:36
could be a D ROC. Man I think I am a D ROC I've been uploading to YouTube and I haven't asked for my cat yet. I won't you know I'm doing the Jab, Jab, Jab, Right Hook. Yeah, next time she comes to me for next course I'm gonna sting you with
15:48
a bill
15:52
but it is great. I mean, this is a funny time and you know, she she my mom teaches yoga and has has
16:00
Yeah, forever. I used to go out to the hole with her to set up just up the road from my house. And she's still been doing it at the hole, just a different hole from when we were growing up, but right near it, and she would set up the, you know, space and have these, you know, classes of 1015 people can't do that anymore. So she pivoted, she's an online motherhood. So, you know, she'll be she'll be what do you call it, you become a consultant. She'll be she'll be. She's actually going to start next course is going to be how to how to create an online
16:34
bit of four hour workweek. I like it. The the meditation thing so I
16:41
you've gone further into the meditation thing than I've ever managed to go. I've gone from the outside, looking in interested. I nearly
16:53
I went down looking to tm Yeah, a while ago, a few of my friends have done the TM stuff.
17:00
And they love it Jerry Seinfeld loves tm. Yeah, there's that there's a bunch of people who, who mentioned it. Anyway, I was listening to a podcast with a guy named Kevin Rose, who founded digg.com. And he's into the wellness and meditation and all of that. So space. Anyway, he was talking about tm, and they charge it's called Transcendental Meditation is that hey, yeah, yeah, they charge a bunch to actually
17:33
to do do the course. And I think as scummy as it sounds, I think that part of the appeal was like, oh, if you pay a bunch, like masterclass, I got, it's expensive. It's pretty Primo. It's like, it sort of got my attention being a bit of a poser. Well, I was like I am. Yeah. And so I mean, Grant Cardone runs workshops. He's that property guy.
18:00
Very far away from the sort of mindfulness of Kevin Rose and these guests that he had on recently. Somebody Amanda, she'll be
18:07
no, but he was talking about how he had two different courses. One was like the 10,000. The others had 20,000. And he one video is going, mate. It's the note and say, mate, he was saying it's the same content. It's the same content. And he's just going on about it. It's like, dude, there is something about paying more that people want to get involved in so tm, tm movement. I mean, there's heaps of great elements to tm meditation, but you definitely don't need tm to start meditating within I already am paying for the waking up app. So I should eat is the alignment. I mean, I'm biassed, but I I even like so. He's your uncle, isn't he Sam?
18:50
Yeah, you buys because you fucking you love it. Like there's no I love it so much and it's helped me so much. But then any of this stuff you find and so the
19:00
Free thing I've got no problem with paying for something, if it so so you could be a poser that pays for it but doesn't use it that's posing at that point for something so expand on the books behind me. No, but then if it gets you to start it, it definitely isn't a it's not a Ponzi scheme team like it's not network marketing. It's actually bringing in the hyper value to a bunch of people. And so what he was saying what Kevin Rose was saying was he merely did the the next levels you can do different levels up higher at the daily talk should come if you have done Tam. I'm curious to know what your what's your word? What
19:40
do you know about a crit? Do you know about the word to know what the word is? Yeah, I you sent me a podcast of Kevin Rose and Henry schucman. So good to listen to you very much. Sure. It's on there. Yeah. And so they didn't know that though. So what is it? So it's based on your birth year, so everyone with this
20:00
Bertha has the same mantra, or the same word. Yeah. But he was talking to Kevin was talking about how the the first session or the first sort of phase of tm is really great and he got a lot out of it. But then it goes down this potentially more dubious par. Where dubious dubious Julius Julius jeebies
20:28
and they apparently teach you how to levitate and do some other weird shit.
20:35
But anyway, they there's a documentary that I want to watch tonight. He spoke about on the podcast it was banned in the US and I feel similar to the feeling of wanting to do something because it costs money. There is also something about if it is banned, if video is banned, don't you think that you
21:00
Want to get your hands on it? Oh, yeah, yeah, it's naughty. I mean, it's not like it's fun. It's like a bit bit who not meant to be doing this but I'll do it. I mean, this is the problem with when people experience a lockdown like wear it and think it's a bit naughty to go out for a walk when we're on curfew.
21:19
Same feeling like I so I saw some photos of Daniel Andrew that Daniel Andrews app premier put out last night. And now Where did you say JJ was like screenshot?
21:33
The track it's like traffic cameras, yes stills from CCTV or traffic cameras of the major highways in Melbourne. And they This was within the curfew time. Absolutely no one I think it's all one car on the road. And that's like crazy. It'd be like saying it's our equivalent of Time Square completely dead, when it shouldn't be dead and the use of a slinky to
21:59
it
22:00
Yet trying to sit as
22:03
well, Bree was pointing this out. They're like, look at how fucking empty it was midnight first night. We're like, hang on. How many people are in the CBD at fucking midnight anyway?
22:14
Okay, it's a it's like there. What's the 504? What's that Highway in LA the 405 they're really congested, and stuff like that with no traffic. I mean, we just have roads with less traffic than la but it's our version of that. It's but there is something I'm thinking like magian like being on a motorbike just tearing through there breaking the rules like it's not that I'm going to deal with I don't even have a fucking motorbike, but it's like, even walking down like sneaking down to get a snap myself. But that's not where you mentioned it yesterday where people have grown up without real rules in place in their live lives. Like we've been able to do most things a whole lot. There hasn't been a great deal stopping us and so now
23:00
We have these heightened restrictions that I mean there's yeah you can see how the temptation of wanting to get a bit naughty when you're told not to do something told not to watch a movie. You know, documentaries been banned. Why did it get banned? You know? So tm, the organisation went after a lawsuit. Yeah.
23:21
about this. So with the TIC Tock thing. The fact Trump is putting out some hilarious stuff at the moment I know he's not a comedian, but I stand by is my favourite comedian. He
23:32
does a great interview with
23:36
an Australian journaux who I think it leaves in the US Have you seen that? I saw a headline of Australian Juno ambushes Trump or something like that. Is that is this is this is I'm doing Yes, that's all I saw. I didn't actually read anything. It's so good look on Twitter. There's a but it's an HBO
23:57
video. I don't know what the programme is, but there's a button
24:00
It's on Twitter. And it's just them arguing over.
24:06
The journal was saying, looking at deaths based on population. Yeah. And Trump is saying, No, no, no, no, you don't look at it like that. You got to look at it as how many deaths based on cases, which I disagree with, I think, like, you should look at how many people are in the population. And so per million people this is how many people are dying. Yeah. And when you look at, I just can't believe the
24:34
I don't even think this is controversial to say, because it's, it's so even political. It's just like facts. It's amazing. How much bullshit Trump has said over the last, you know, four or five months about everything that's happening. Like I remember when he when he was saying, they wouldn't be getting over it, they'd be hitting 100,000 deaths and it would sort of that was all and like, they're already at 150,000
25:01
Yeah, yeah, good numbers, good numbers, you know, we
25:05
definitely go go watch. It almost seems like some sort of skips like it looks like some sort of SNL. It's filmed really.
25:13
Inside the Ozzy guy, is he sort of getting into it? Yeah, he's just saying now like people dying, and he's in Trump's, like, you're looking at it wrong. He's fucking pulling out the pay pages. And the best line was he said,
25:27
What did he say? It was great. It was great. You know, just write it down. It was it was it was really good. He's actual line was
25:36
way lost, which means we're first looking at
25:41
a graph. It's
25:43
I had a I had a positive result, which was negative. Yes, the sign. He said that he said that. And he and he's trying to, I mean, some of them really like, doing it to survive people up others and just same fucking way off and
26:00
It's even on that interview we did with the barstool sports guy. Yeah. David Dave, for Dave Portnoy. Yeah. And,
26:10
and He's, uh, you know, it's my, it's my retweets that get me in trouble. You know, sometimes I'm just retweeting and then I don't sort of, like as the president not looking at what he's retweeting, and then then getting in trouble having to take it down. It's like, Fuck, man. What do we exist since we're in right now? And so the US government, you know, all this Tick Tock stuff that's happening, trying to ban it in the US or trying to at least get it so that the data doesn't get sent back to China is at the top level. Yeah, yeah. And so I mean, I haven't gone really deep into it, but I was watching the whole press conference with Trump today. And the US government is requiring basically a finder's fee. So Microsoft or whoever ends up buying Tick Tock.
26:57
The US government is saying that they have
27:00
be paid like that. Like it's not happening without us like, you need to you need to pay us so it was such a funny funny concept. It's fucking I mean it's like saying
27:13
the council's getting a kickback because we've put through a a you know high rise apartment building that's going up in Collingwood and we want to kick back from the builders well I mean the thing is that in some ways we're talking about tax here aren't we but but the why is that what is that what he's not he's it's it sounds that's what makes it so funny you could almost believe it if it's like our This is we've got this new tax or talent for you do it like that, but it's just like now we want to split the deal that way one fucking if they're making money, we mean fucking broken up. I wonder if he says this shit. And then obviously it has to fall under some kind of tax break. You know something new.
27:53
I wonder if he actually says she then gets everyone. Everyone's like, Oh no, we're gonna have to work this one out. Fuck
28:00
says it tries to say a deal and then people scrambling to make the deal work. That's fucking bizarre.
28:10
Before we go talking about the documentary stuff, Brian, I watched a great old documentary on Britney Spears the other day. Yeah.
28:21
What you wasn't made 2000
28:25
I think it's 3008.
28:28
Yeah, yeah. And so she was she was this toxic days was this Yeah. So this is this is post haircut.
28:38
Yeah, yeah. And so you should sort of, you know, there's all the whole free Brittany movement. We sort of spoke about it a little bit on the show.
28:46
And yeah, it's Brittany for the record. It's very hard to find, but we, we found a link and watched it. It is. It's originally an MTV taco series. It reminds me of one of those Oji makes a very
29:00
Common now you see Katy Perry or
29:04
Lady Gaga. There's so many examples of musicians doing these sort of tacos, but it was an interesting watch is Brittany. Does it seem like she was up for doing it? Or is it like collations of footage? Yeah, no, no, it's all it's it's actually the fuck what was the was the hotel that tele stayed out in LA? Oh man. We're in Rio and Mondrian, on Mondrian. On meridian. Yeah.
29:30
with the, with the mirrors, you know, like the TV's built into the mirror. It was there like so she's like, sitting there doing all of these interviews and opening up about everything that was happening at the time. But you do get a sense of sadness. Yeah, but people have put together these
29:50
videos on YouTube, which is listen to Britney Spears. His voice changed over the years. Oh, wow. That's a lot of efforts.
30:00
Today Yeah, I wonder how much your voice has changed? Yeah, I think I think definitely from I mean, MN said that I had that radio voice was it early episode kind of high?
30:14
Within seconds Should we do a few seconds of if we were on broadcast radio, it's just to the finish line, right? Yeah. And
30:29
it's a daily talk show everyone Hey, Jay, how are you? Nice? Yeah, good. I guys a big one in Melbourne. Oh, is it not? It's not many people out in the back of my mind. It has been so bloody chilly. But first off
30:42
I want to love Hey, you sighs chilly.
30:46
I was actually having a bit of chilli the other day was actually
30:52
on a What do you say con?
30:57
That's right, uh, Brittany. Yeah, that was good.
31:00
good fun. I enjoyed by
