Angelo’s advice on the show

What should you do if you want to drop out of school to pursue a passion?

Pursue the passion, but don't skip finishing school (VCE) entirely — it's undervalued at the time but important as a fallback, so balance following a dream with completing foundational education.

How do you manage a team as a business grows from a handful of people to dozens?

Founders must learn to delegate and shift from being hands-on operators to fostering passion and culture across the team; building perks and a relaxed environment helps cultivate genuine investment in the business, not just the role.

How do you handle managing people when you've never done it before?

Accept that you'll have to learn management on the job through mistakes and reading, and that you may need to project confidence ('fake it till you make it') even when unsure, while genuinely trying to do right by your team.

Stories Angelo told

The 'Out, Out, Out' jacket

Ep 601▶ 1:04

Angelo recounts herding a crowd of uninvited visitors out of the VentraIP office during renovations, an incident captured on security footage that became an in-joke and inspired a sequined jacket reading 'out, out, out.'

From 15-year-old support rep to VentraIP co-founder

Ep 601▶ 9:59

Angelo details falling into the hosting industry via a part-time support job at 15, moving to Canberra at 16 after an acquisition that didn't deliver on its promises, quitting IT to pursue a radio dream, then being recruited back by his old mentor Shane—born partly out of a desire to beat the company that had let them down—to co-found VentraIP while still finishing high school.

Questions these interviews answer

Drawn from the episode transcripts.

What is web hosting, explained simply?

According to Angelo Giuffrida, website files sit on a server 'in the cloud,' and when you request a site from your browser, the hosting provider stores and serves that content to your computer — the storage and serving of that content is web hosting.

From episode 601→
Why use a local Australian web host instead of an overseas provider?

Angelo argues the key differentiator is that when something breaks, Australian-based support means you can call a local team (in VentraIP's case, Melbourne) 24/7, whereas overseas providers may be cheap until you actually need responsive help.

From episode 601→
Do you actually own a domain name you buy?

No — Angelo explains domains are leased, not owned; you pay a registrar which splits fees with the registry provider and the policy body (like AUDA for .au), essentially renting the right to use the name.
